And now I must go make a Gestalt of Gunslinger//Alchemist

Well with the Errata they gave The Shield Champion weapon and normal profs for Shields to be fair.

+8 to Hit and Dmg? Ok dude that is OP as all hell. Hell 18s in every stat in OP too but at least not that bad.

Is there any reason why slashing grace doesn´t work with flurry of blows anymore?

It made me really happy to be able to play a fist of the south star style monk. Considering the feat investment, i don´t think this is out of the powercurve and needed to be ruled different.

You still CAN. You just have to shell out for the Agile Amulet of Mighty Fists.

I understand your disappointment at the lack of a feat to do it more elegantly...

I played a Swashbuckler at 7th and 8th level. It's a solid damage dealer but anything that triggers an important save means you're straight up f&%@ed.
Once you hit 11 you can at least shore up Fort with the Twist Away combo.
Not anymore! Well, Twist Away still works, but not with Ring of Ferocious Action or whatever.
True, but CLH is not wrong that it's still a fair bit better than failing a crucial Fortitude save,

...And I think it relates to this.

I love that Paizo avoifds "must have" feats. I personally hate thinking "WHELP MAKING A ROGUE, NEED THAT TWIST AWAY". I would like to have options.

The thing is, I need those options again. Besides Iron Guts, there is little I can grant my Rogue to improve his CON saves. I'd love if there were a better selection of Rogue Talents to help it out.

Same for the Swashbuckler... Divine Protection now seems like a great feat for them, but it's going to be pretty annoying to spend 5 points into Knowledge (religion) on every swashbuckling action hero I create just for the privilege of not wasting Charmed Life attempts before a roll.

Also new Steadfast Personality encourages me to keep a 10 on my Wisdom, but if it doesn't affect non-mind affecting WIll saves, then it's bound to open my dude up for Curses and what not.

I don't want my characters to be cookie cutter but we do need the alternatives to fix their glaring gaps.

Except Divine Protection is now said to be a once per day thing and I think was still a swift action

At least we can easily guess why slashing grace got nerfed: You can use anything in your off hand with Dervish Dance, so why take it when SG was so much better?

How was it nerfed I see it saying remove One-handed from the description.

Not I, it is a good archetype and iconic for a commonly seen hero in other medias. People want to feel powerful and being Cap is really powerful.

Well I considered to get Precise Strike Deed through Arcana, so Level to damage with each card/dart

I think the idea is you use the staff for close range, then quick draw the card and use it for the ranged delivery of spell.
So its meant to be used more for a ranged specialized with some switch hitter potential.

You can't use spell combat with cards if your other hand has the quarterstaff. That basically kills the build.

I think the build more focuses on Spellstrike, not Spell Combat.

But you are right, but that is why you put the Quarterstaff away. Remy rarely used his staff while using his cards anyway.

Interesting I will have to look into regular cards too then, I am sure there is a playing card deck somewhere.

Either way if they are destroyed it doesn't really matter just would like a reason not to burn through extra money but I am guessing this will only be a problem at low levels.

Good ideas I will look into them.

Ok so here is the idea I had currently

Traits:
Bladed Magic
Student of Philosophy

Feats:
(Flaw) Cosmopolitan
(Flaw) Distance Thrower
(Bonus) Deadly Dealer
(Bonus) Staff Master
(Human) Point Blank Shot
(1st) Precise Shot
(3rd) Weapon Focus: Darts (Cards?)
(Bonus) Quick Draw
(5th) Harrowed
(7th) Weapon Focus: Quarterstaff

I am not sure how the build had Weapon Spec at 7th. When Magus at 10th gets the fighter training.

Yes but that kind of defeats the point of it doesn't it?
I mean 54 cards cost 100GP per Harrowing deck.

Arcane Pool Focus (Su)

A card caster's arcane pool can be used to augment only ranged weapons. At 5th level, a card caster can use his arcane pool to add the following weapon special abilities to ranged weapons: brilliant energy, distance, flaming, flaming burst, frost, icy burst, returning, seeking, shock, shocking burst, and speed. He can use his arcane pool to augment an entire harrow deck as if it were ammunition. All cards from a deck enhanced with a special ability, such as flaming, must share the same bonus. This ability modifies arcane pool.

^ Where?

Deadly Dealer makes it deal lethal damage. Arcane Strike was required to make it a magic strike and that is what destroys it. But Card Caster ignores Arcane Strike as a requirement for both the feat and the effect.

I mean otherwise why not just give both Arcane Strike and Deadly Dealer as bonus feats, we have seen Archetypes give two feats especially in a chain before.

Quote:
You must use the Arcane Strike feat when throwing a card in this way, or else the card lacks the magical force and precision to deal lethal damage. A card is destroyed when thrown in this way.

It implies that you must use the Arcane Strike, the Card Caster doesn't need to have it, and so you are not throwing it in this way if you do not have Arcane Strike

I like it but I am just saying the traits might be more useful like Weapon Focus (Darts/Cards)

What if you do not use Arcane Strike feat, since it says you can use it without it. Is it the Arcane Strike feat that destroys it

Well I am curious the Deadly Dealer feat says a card is destroyed if thrown with arcane strike, but Card Caster gives you the ability to add Returning to the cards as part of your Arcane Pool. So I have to ask.. if its destroyed how do I return it?

Nice, love the build. Though that one Cosmopolitan feat seems misplaced for feats

I wanted to make a character loosely inspired by Gambit, wielding a quarterstaff (Maybe a Rod of Surprise with only one shape) and a deck of cards.

Any advice on what I should too make this really come online? I know this is building for two different styles, one is a ranged character and one is a melee but I really like this idea of delivering distance spellstrikes to take down a foe with a simple 'playing' card.

Any tips?
