Yes, I'm with my in-laws at the moment, and they do have internet.

PC's turn?

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea shields her eyes as the bones rain down around her. She looks around, trying to determine if the explosion heralds the arrival of a new foe, or simply was a distraction created by the goblins.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

So it's a week later and I've finally arrived in our temporary home. The big move will be later this summer, most likely at the end of August.

Today is the big moving day, the Day of the Truck. Wish me luck! My presence online should increase after today.

Initiative? Palea will cast dancing lights on herself before combat.
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Palea walks in next to the samurai, prepared to protect him in combat. She strikes at the attacking goblin, quickly recovering to scan for more enemies.

I don't know where I'll fall in the initiative order, but if I have a chance to strike at a goblin: Scimitar attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18,Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Palea does a double-take when she finds herself agreeing with the cleric.

Hmm, perhaps it's all just gruff bluster with her, as she seems to have a sensible head on her shoulders.

"I agree with Mistress Jirnsmid. I think waiting until they are asleep, or are otherwise preoccupied is better. I've been in a few battles and know anything can go wrong when the arrows are flying. Best to minimize the chance of chaos getting the upper hand."

How many goblins in total have we observed?

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Hi folks,

Thank you for bearing with my absence of late, but things have been very busy and will likely get busier.

I've already mentioned that I'll be moving very soon, so I thought I'd give you some updates.

First, I wanted to tell all of you that my family and I will be moving for work to the small island of Yap in the western Pacific this summer. Yap is part of a small atoll that is part of the Federated States of Micronesia, and is quite remote. The closest "mainland" are the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. FYI, careful Googling Yap at work, as the traditional dress there is NSFW.

To complicate things further, we're being forced to move out of our current home by the end of May (it was sold) and will be living with friends and relatives until we finally leave for Micronesia at the beginning of August.

What this means for the game is that my posting will be sparse between now (actually from a few weeks ago) and when we get ourselves established in Micronesia in August. I'm not exactly sure when in August because the work is handling the relocation and hasn't given us our tickets yet, and also because I don't know how long it will take me to get the internet up and running in Yap (although I'm glad to know there IS internet).

I'll try to be active as much as possible, but feel free to bot me whenever necessary.

Thanks,

BrOp

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea moves to the nearest goblin, hoping to bring down one more. scimitar attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17, damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

I am away from my computer until next Tuesday and will be posting tersely from my phone. Don't take it personally, everyone.

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

I'm guessing from the descriptions that I no longer have an opponent in front of me due to the "Outrider" withdrawing, is that correct? I don't know if either the "Pikeman" or the "Firework" opponents are reachable by me. Should I assume yes?

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Are we doing theater of the mind, or did I miss a link to a map somewhere?

Seeing that Enge seems to be in particular danger, Palea moves over to one of the goblins threatening the dwarf (possibly in a flank?).

The Shoanti woman seems lost in a trance, humming a lilting tune to herself as she moves in almost a dance toward the goblin, her scimitar held above her to catch the rays of the sun, while the blade thrums as if alive.

Battle dance, activating arcane strike as a swift action.

Scimitar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22, Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea will activate her battle dance in the surprise round and then make a move action and attack if possible in the first full round of combat.

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea slips off her backpack and draws her scimitar as quietly as she can and looks around to make sure everyone is ready to attack. Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

And I'm back from fever-city. Thanks for your patience, everyone.

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Sorry for the delay in posting, folks. Am in bed with a high fever.

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea looks around. "So we're doing this, yes? Waking the creature and scaring it into telling us what we want to know?" She turns to the monk, a quizzical look in her eye.

"Are you sure its bonds are tight? If it can transform its body, maybe it can transform its arms so that it can slip out? Best if we get its legs as well and a few of us have a hold on it."

She strides forward while keeping the cosh in one hand and grabs on to the shapechanger.

+3 Aid another on Intimidate: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 (I have the "Helpful" trait)

Palea looks over Walthus' shoulder as he is drawing, pointing at a few pieces of his creation. "Is that the Old Fish Trail there? That's very good, that is."

"Do you know anything of the witch, Old Magus? We've heard she might be a good source of information about the Brinestump goblins. Also, if you know anything about the goblin Chief Rendwattle Gutwad, that would be real helpful. He's the one causing all the trouble in Sandpoint that we've been sent to investigate."

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea looks at the piece of charcoal in her hand. "This not good enough? I don't normally carry ink. It tends to leak and ruin everything else in my bag."

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea nods at Samell's comments, and listens to Akodo. "Hanging would make sense since it tried to kill Walthus. If my brother caught him there would have to be a trial, but out here in the wilderness we can't offer that kind of formal justice. I just think it's important to know what it was doing and why."

Palea puts down her backpack and pulls out a sheet of paper already lined for writing music and hands it to Walthus along with a pice of drawing charcoal.

"Do you think you could draw us a map of how best to get to the goblins? I grew up in Sandpoint, but this part of the Lost Coast is unknown to me. That would help us a lot."

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea listens to Enge's suggestions, but makes a face when she mentions beating it out of him.

Not everything can be accomplished with force, Lady.

She then turns to Samell. "Hey Samell, do you have a charm spell? Perhaps we could ensorcell him to give us what we want rather than relying on torture?"

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea bows to the halfling as she pockets her cosh after making sure the creature won't be standing up again any time soon.

"Glad that you are fine after all, Mr. Walthus. Are you still hurt?" She then walk over to him and checks him for injuries.

Heal check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea coshes it over the head to knock it out, just to be sure it can't hurt her companions any more.

Need me to roll?

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Is the creature still fighting us or is combat over?

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Hearing Takafumi's call for mercy, and not know what type of creature they were facing and if it was truly evil, Palea draws her sap and moves over to strike it.

Move to draw sap, move action to walk over to the creature.

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Turns out we're moving across to the other side of the planet this summer. This came all of a sudden, so we have a lot of planning to do all at once. Sorry to worry everyone.

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea seems completely taken aback by the halfling's transformation. "Who? What is going on? What is that thing?"

I have to be calm, I have to be calm. Draw it away from the others and protect them.

She picks up the nearest thing and hurls it at the creature to distract it, calling out: "Hey, hey, look at me! I'm the one with the sharp sword!" and draws her scimitar.

Attack roll: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 3 - 4 = 7; Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Apologies for being AFK this week. Big changes in my life are happening all at once and I'm a little overwhelmed. I'll post again tomorrow.

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea introduces the assembled company, curious about what might be making him nervous.

"Can you tell us anything about the goblins in the area? We heard they have been getting into more than their usual amount of chaos and mischief as of late."

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea holds up both hands in a non-threatening gesture when she sees the halfling.

"Pardon us, Master Walthus. We didn't mean to intrude. It's just that we found some goblins who had been dismembered back by the bridge, and wanted to make sure that the same thing hadn't happen to you. We are from Sandpoint, and just had some questions about goblins. We thought you might be a great source of useful information."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea tries to remember what she can about the swamp and its environs, and how it might relate to the house and its owner. Knowledge (geo): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Not having found anything in the house, she then steps outside and lets those who didn't go in about what they found.

"Seems he left not too long ago. The stove is still warm. Perhaps he went out to hunt or gather other items. He keeps a lot of animals, that's for sure."

Palea then looks around for tracks heading away from the house that could have been made by a halfling. I'll take 10 on Perception = 13.

What was it that my brother used to look for when looking for tracks? I can't quite remember ...

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea calls out again and takes a look around in the visible area, touching the potted plants as long as they look innocuous. "Sad that these have not been cared for better. Just need a bit of light and water, is all." Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

If she finds nothing, she will first look in the two open rooms, then listen to the door of the closed room before heading upstairs. Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea shrugs and points toward the house.

"Should we go investigate the house? He might not like it if he returns, but then again, I don't know if these swamp people are much for ceremony."

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea cups her hands to amplify her voice a bit.

"Hello in the house? Mr. Walthus? Anyone home? We'd like to trade. Hello?"

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea passes on the information she's gathered about the goblins' wounds.

"Seems we have two different hunters on the job: a four-legged one and one with two legs."

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Still in Sandpoint:

Palea takes the coins and gives the Tien woman a low bow. "Thank you very much, Ameiko, but this is way too much for just a bit of work around the inn. That's a month's wages, at least! I was just working for room and board. Won't you take some of it back?"

-----------------------------------

If it's still any good: Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11; Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

Palea takes a closer look at what might have killed the goblins, specifically if they were killed by weapons or stashed here by an animal of some kind. Heal? check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17

She looks up when she hears Enge speak and shakes her head. "In my experience, there will always be more goblins. They have quite a thirst for life and their population increases beyond all reasonable measure."

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea takes her leave of her companions, although her reaction toward the dwarven woman is a little cold.

Is it me or is she a bit ornery? Wonder if that's just just her or if it's a dwarven thing?

She then makes her way over to Ameiko and bows low in a Minkaian fashion the way her master had taught her to.

"Good evening Mistress Kaijitsu. I was wondering if you might have a spare room for tonight. I ... erm ..." and here she loses her tongue a bit, feeling unsure and not knowing exactly what to say. "Well, my brothers don't know I have returned and I don't really want them to know. I mean, I'll talk to them, but I just need to get my feet under me. After all, I just got off the boat from Magnimar this morning and I don't know up from down yet. Also, I'm a little low on funds, but would be happy to work for my board, if there's anything to be done. Doesn't matter how dirty a job it is, either."

Palea keeps her eyes low and bows again, not sure of what else to say.

FYI, it's quite clear that she's carrying a hurdy-hurdy, a musical instrument around her neck.

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea does a bit of a double-take at Enge's comment, and looks like she is about to shoot back something at the dwarf. Instead, she takes a deep breath, stands up, and goes over to talk to the elderly halfling waitress, Brethana Corwin

She bows deeply before the woman. "Mistress Corwin, it is a pleasure to see you again. During my time away I often thought of your minced meat buns, and became incredibly homesick."

Please, Sarenrae and all my ancestors, grant me patience!

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea give Enges a sideways glance. "What's wrong with witches? Among the Shoanti there are many shamans; they are not too different from witches."

Dwarves do have their prejudices, don't they? Bad enough that we're looking to take on goblins, but with the witches it must drive her crazy.

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea scratches her head as she retakes her seat at the table and listens to the others.

"I have never met either Old Magus or Walthus, but it seems that asking someone who's lived there for years might give us more information. We can always check in with the halfling man later, should we feel it is necessary. Might be good to stock up on some antivenom as well."

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea nods to Ameiko but does a double-take when she sees the beer.

Looking a bit sheepish, she asks the proprietor "Hey, Ameiko, can I have an apple cider instead? Not the hard kind, I mean. I've been staying away from alcohol for a while now; it clouds my judgement."

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea now becomes visibly uncomfortable and she snaps out sarcastically. "They ... they're not tattoos, Gohei. I was gone for almost two years, not a few weeks. Glad everyone was paying attention."

She then stands up from the table to walk over to the bar to get herself another drink.

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

"Oh," Palea exclaims, all of a sudden not having a place to put her hands, "it was just time for me to come home. I ... um ... had been abroad .... training."

The Shoanti woman quickly sits back down again, and makes a lot of fuss readjusting her cloak a number of times before finally settling back in her chair.

Please, no one ask me any more right now. Please. Please!

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea stands up all of a sudden as if shot out of a cannon and smoothes out of traveling clothes, the corner of a chain shirt peeking out from underneath her cloak. She turns to Enge Jirsmid and bows deeply to her.

"I am sorry, I completely forgot to introduce myself. I am Palea Walks in Light, mistress dwarf. I grew up here in Sandpoint," and here she looks down as if ashamed, "although I haven't been around for a while."

She then points out Samell. "This hear fine half-orcish gentleman is Samell, another Sandpoint local, whom I have known for many years. He is as smart of a person as you'll ever meet, and has forgotten more in his life than I'll ever know."

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Palea shutters as she remembers her youthful adventures in Brinestump Marsh. Barely escaped with her life, if she recalls correctly.

"That's no place for decent folk, that Brinestump Mash." she intones from behind her voluminous drinking vessel. "Nothing but bugs, goblins, and things slithering through the water."

Hmm, it could use a bit of sunlight. Maybe that's what the goddess has planned for me?

Female Human (Shoanti) Bard 1; HP 10/10; AC 17/13/14; F +1, R +5, W +1; Perc +3

Could everyone take a look at this archetype ability, please? I need a GM call on by "Battle Dance ability, but since we're all going to be GMing eventually, I'd like everyone's input. Here's the ability:

Inner Sea Magic p. 34-35:
Battle Dance: A Dawnflower dervish is trained in the use of the Perform skill, especially dance, to create magical effects on himself. This works like bardic performance, except that the Dawnflower dervish’s performances grant double their normal bonuses, but these bonuses only affect him. He does not need to be able to see or hear his own performance. Battle dancing is treated as bardic performance for the purposes of feats, abilities, and effects that affect bardic performance, except that battle dancing does not benefit from the Lingering Performance feat or any other ability that allows a bardic performance to grant bonuses after it has ended. The benefits of battle dancing apply only when the bard is wearing light or no armor. Like bardic performance, battle dancing cannot be maintained at the same time as other performance abilities.
Starting a battle dance is a move action, but it can be maintained each round as a free action. Changing a battle dance from one effect to another requires the Dawnf lower dervish to stop the previous performance and start the new one as a move action. Like a bard, a Dawnflower dervish’s performance ends immediately if he is killed, paralyzed, stunned, knocked unconscious, or otherwise prevented from taking a free action each round. A Dawnflower dervish cannot perform more than one battle dance at a time. At 10th level, a Dawnf lower dervish can start a battle dance as a swift action instead of a move action.
When the Dawnflower dervish uses the inspire courage, inspire greatness, or inspire heroics bardic performance types as battle dances, these performance types only provide benefit to the Dawnflower dervish himself. All other types of bardic performance work normally (affecting the bard and his allies, or the bard’s enemies, as appropriate). This ability alters the standard bardic performance ability.

After reading this, does the GM think that the Dawnflower Dervish (or DD) loses the normal versions of inspire courage, inspire greatness, or inspire heroics so that she can only perform them as a battle dance? I realize that you can't do both at the same time.

Thanks
