About Ortun

The waves crashed lazily onto the beach, one after another in an endless rhythm. Standing taller than a human man in the silhouette of the rising sun, Ortun's pale turquoise skin resembled the water sloshing onto his shins. The warm coastal breeze billowed his straight, thick hair behind him exposing his fin-like ears. Ortun's limpid blue eyes stared onto the horizon, seeing the small black dot slowly growing in size.

One hour, maybe longer if that carp sucking elf is working my tiller.

Standing stoic in the water Ortun waited for the boat to approach.

As the men in the boat rowed towards him, Ortun fingered his shell encrusted mace. "Row no further. This beach is mine. I claimed it in Gozreh's name." As the man spoke, the octagonal pattern of a snapping turtle shell emerged from the water. Its fleshy head poked out of the shell sniffing the salt air.

"Ortun, we come with a request." the men from the boat called. "None can steer a boat like you. None know the rise and fall of the sea swells like you. None can tack a course through swirling winds like you. Captain needs you, wants you back, says you can have anything you want from the hold."

Silent, Ortun considered the mans' offer. He reached down and rubbed the turtle's shell. "Mishell, what shall we do? Do we go back and accept the captain's peace offering, or do we live free here?" The turtle snapped gently at Ortun's hand.

"We accept your offer." Plunging under the waves, undine and turtle swam out to the boat before both popped up a moment later. Ortun pulled himself onto the boat before plucking the turtle out of the water by its tail.

"Row on, men. Row on."
