In a species as widespread as the vesk, there are bound to be a few who don't quite fit the mold for their race. Orodolwa (or just "Oro" to those who have earned his friendship) is one such vesk. Most vesk warriors scoff at the notion that knowledge has no place on the field of battle, but Orodolwa believes, and even proves, otherwise.
Orodolwa grew up fairly standardly for a vesk. His parents held considerable political sway as respectable warriors and soldiers, with Oro on the path to follow in their footsteps. Yet something had always nagged at him as he trained: why was knowledge always forsaken as a weapon? Certainly, education and information had it's place on the battlefield... but why was broader topics always dismissed? The blade of a doshko was what struck your opponent, but you didn't neglect polishing the rest of the haft.
His thirst for an answer came in the form of a kasathan dignitary his father brought him to meet on a visit to the Pact Worlds. The kasathan introduced him to the concepts of growing stronger from studies of the past, and in turn, encouraged the young vesk to look to his people's history for personal strength. The idea that knowledge not strictly related to warfare fascinated him, and despite his parents shrugging off the notion that one could glean any sort of strength from book studies, Orodolwa turned to Vesk history for strength.
And he found more strength than even he expected.
As if waiting to be discovered, Orodolwa followed a trail of informational bread crumbs leading him to rediscover an art of war all, but forgotten by modern vesk society: in the Vesk language, the rough translation is "Path of the Intangible Claw". A long forsaken method of combat that revolved around unarmed combat, instead fusing magic and martial prowess into a single perfect art. It was exactly the method that Orodolwa had always wondered about, and he hungrily devoured every excerpt concerning the lost art. But it wasn't enough to simply read on the subject. He had to practice it. Study it. Master it. It brought him many tired nights, demanding both physical and mental mastery, as well as mockery from his peers. The notion that knowledge could aid one in pitched combat was absurd. Even his parents, scandalized by his obsession with an "antiquated" style of combat, demanded that he quit his silly project and pursue true studies.
Yet it was all worth it. The day he left Vesk Prime in search of further knowledge was his proudest day, as well as a moment that cemented his beliefs in his mind. A particularly rude military student peer was taking the opportunity to not only mock his choice of combat, but disturb him while reading. Having had enough, Orodolwa challenged him to honorable combat, and after three failed attempts by his opponent to bring him low, Orodolwa proclaimed himself his foe's teacher, and with a single touch, channeled an incredible shock through his opponent's weapon, leaving him twitching and singed on the ground while a silently stunned crowd watched. Orodolwa chose to leave in search of opponents who would be worth his time.
En route to Absalom Station, Orodolwa learned of the Starfinder Society, a group of star farers who sought out the unsung secrets of the universe, simply because they lay undiscovered. It sounded perfect like the perfect thing to suit his scholarly palette!
