Chuck Wright wrote: My only serious misgiving is the looting rule, where you lose everything if your corpse gets looted.
People WILL form large ganking groups to raid areas with security just for the joy of killing you and making sure you lose your stuff. I'm sure that this will even happen in high security zones, unless guard response is INSTANT and there's no chance for ANYONE to loot your husk.
so you dont want your RPG(Role Playing Game)to be realistic? im in favor of a realistic system of not carrying 8k gold and 6 different max level awesomesauce swords in my inventory, unless im a merchant.
i like the idea of having to party to go explore.
i love the idea of playing a bandit and ganking players for cash.
and i especially love the idea of having a penalty for failure, and a reward for success in pvp, other then just gear currency. im looking at you wow,& swtor.

i was playing my tetori monk a few months ago. i was level 14 and we were fighting a gargantuan red dragon that kept strafing us with fire. so my monk had enough of it, DD over the dragon grappled him and we both went plummeting down to the ground. we fell 150 feet and when we landed the dragon and i took full damage from the fall. i had 1 hp left and the dragons turn was coming up. luckily the dragon missed his first attack allowing me to pin him using snapping turtle clutch, then the big dumb fighter coupe de graced the dragon allowing us to win the encounter.

it would allow classes that don't have the ac to stay in melee, to still contribute. it would be a very good combo if you were planning on taking dodge and mobility already.
the developers themselves said " maybe we made vital strike to restricting." i think it would be a great addition to the game, and make spring attack a good choice for a feat build.

my negative energy cleric, is an aasimar with an 18 wis and cha. at level 5 hes cleaning clocks when he spends his resources. extra channel, +2 to saves vrs channel, channel smite with guided hand. basically he, after buffing, hits as hard and as often as the 2 handed fighter in our group. the fighter is better over all, but my character can heal, buff, debuff, ect.. adds 2d6 + elnalrge person (and other crazy spells) to his greatsword and really kicks teeth in.
a great combo for a channel smite charater with negative energy is selective channel, quicker channel, and channel smite, you can hit a target for 6d6+ what ever modifiers you can add to that from spells and magic items.
now i will say that its more about flavor then optimization, because you could build a paladin that can beat a cleric in damage, but at the same time you gain a full clerics spell list to add to your functionality.
oh and you want to put conductive and spell storing on your weapon, knocks your damage through the roof.

clff rice wrote: How is it a heaven oracle does damage with color spray?
they wouldnt deal damage, and i know the op was talking about making an evoker, but it would add an insane ammount of control due to color spray functoning effectively until 12th level or so. then all of the sorcerer illusion (glamer) spells at its disposal in later levels.
@aunt tony
while you are entitled to your opinion that doesnt mean its correct. mystic thurges are kings of buffing and control. they lose out on quite a bit, but they gain a multiple role position. that he could be a very effective healer/buffer/debuffer/conjurer and play a pure support role. ive played a MT in a home game with a very evil GM. he took pride in killing players, and mine never died once. i had too many tricks to overcome every thing the gm threw at him. i was able to keep people fighting, and was the most "powerful" character in the group, he was a linch pin of the group.
if you play this smart, dont focus on damage, and play a support role this character will perform very well. it will suck if you try to lob nothing but fireballs.

herolab is very expensive. you have to buy each book, and it is full of bugs. i stopped using it once it screwed up by saves, hp, movement speed, and bonuses to attack.
i will try out pcgen, is it located on D20PFSRD.com?

so back in 3.0 they had an EWP called a harpoon. it was an amazing weapon used for controlling characters on the field. how it worked was, everytime i hit someone they had to make a dc10+ damage dealt or be grappled. then they needed to take a full round to remove the harpoon or take aditional damage. now in 3.5 this wasn't really broken by comparison to what you could do with other weapons and builds, but still it was hands down my favorit character i ever played.
now the harpoon in PF is crap by comparison, but when coupled with the feat hamatula strike, it is very similar to how my 3.0 character functioned, which i love.
here is hamatula strike "Whenever you damage an opponent with a piercing weapon, you can immediately make a grapple check; success means the opponent is impaled on your weapon and you both gain the grappled condition"
now.. im a little concerned that at 7th level i can give characters the grappled condition at a range with little to no failure chance against a good chunk of PFS targets. anyone think this is too cheazy for Pathfinder? what i mean is in contrast to power of 3.5 this was a 3/10, a good build but not the "i hit for 50,000 damage" builds you could make. pathfinder is much weaker in that reguard, so im concerned this will be over powering.
here is my build, its not done yet
fighter 8 (lorewarden), barbarian 4
H quick draw
1 two handed thrower
f EWP harpoon
f IUS
3 iron will
f improved grapple
5 improved iron will
f greter grapple
7 hamatula strike
i might change a few levels around to get the character i want, but this is the basic idea.

:rules:
so im playing a grappling tetori monk, and im loving him. im looking for as many ways as possible to increase my grapple, and was looking at the Dan Bong for a bonus.
now i know that if im wielding it i take a -4 for not having 2 hands free, but what about dan bong with a weapon chord, would you use an EWP feat just to gain a +2 on your maintain rolls?
also if i was to dual wield them, would that allow me to gain a +4 to my grapple off setting the -4 for wielding them in the first place? if so i think i would definatly take the EWP so i could gain a+4 on confirm rolls without losing anything.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
:advice:
on a different note im stacking my cmb/cmd for grapple and wearing mithril chain shirt, to negate the need for proficiency, to grab brawling. so far i have at 7-8 level, depending on my cash total, im going to have:
to CMD, improved grapple, dex +3, bab 7, ring of protection +2, strength +4, turtle shield +2, wisdom +4*, monk ac +2*(... maybe, i havent decided if armor is worth it or not.) am i missing anything else right now , while wearing armor im looking at a CMD of about 32 (in armor) which isnt high by contrast to what CRs will have in the worst case.
to CMB im looking at strength +4, improved grapple +2, greater grapple +2, gauntlets of the master maneuver +2, belt of the anaconda +2, bab 7, armbands of the brawler +1. for a total of +20 at 7th-8th.
now my WBL may be off a little bit, but im a grapple only character not caring about damage, if anyone has any equipment advice or items i may have missed please help me out.

wow its like talking to a brick wall...
ok i will live in your world where ever npc has an insane ac, never moves into a flanking position, dice are perfect, and all damage results in averages. by those qualifications YOU WIN DA ARGUMENT!!! gratz to yaz!
now in real life, im blending mooks in 1-2 hits, im hitting often enough to be satasfied with my increase in minimum damage, and dont care about average damage or its equations because i know, pay attention now!,dice ARE NOT RANDOM. they favor particular numbers, either by a wide margin, or a small. ever wonder why your gm crits so much when he pulls out his "special" dice? its because they are lopsided, you need to take that into account with your math... wait you cant account for that variable when computing the numbers? i already knew that.
now this varible will skew any paper math. so before you open your mouth telling me im "worse off", just dont. like i said i use this class feature and i was very happy with never rolling lower then a 3 on my unlucky, lopsided, d6 dice.
would i take this at low levels, no
would i take this as a solid rogue, no
peace out, im now irritated and dont want to take part in a discussion insults me using flawed math.

Roberta Yang wrote: ryric wrote: Over any adventuring career, the rogue with the sneak attack talents will lose more damage due to the hit penalty than they will gain due to the better sneak attack rolls. But if you happen to hit with every single attack and then you happen to roll 1's on every single sneak attack die, then those talents make you turn a profit! So provided you're using d20's loaded toward you and d6's loaded against you, they're useful. ive used it on my rogue before, and i liked it. play smart and build you character competently and it will be a boon.
this board thinks in terms of averages, i think in terms of worst case cenario, and i can tell you i have had games where i wouldnt see anything higher then a 3 on my d6.

its still worth the investment if for no other reason then stacking CE and fighting defensively to make up for a low ac. then add a +2 to attack and damage at 12 level as a swift action with a high rate of success.

drill.
nothing beats drilling a hole in the ground, dropping a piton and barricading the door for a good nights rest, while in a dungeon filled with undead.
bear traps are also very powerful when used in combination with a drill. its a mundane root that works great for ambushes.
mithril waffle iron! it makes waffles in the shape of your god! whats not awesome about that.

the 3.5 prestige classes were not ment for players, Wizards cautioned against letting players use the PrC choices from the dmg for players.
the gm needs things to throw at you, or else you would only have the bestiary for sources of NPC's. just because the game has litches in it, doesn't mean you should get to play one.

fighter archetype phalanx soldier lets you use a towershield and a reach weapon. it is so crazy when you roll out in mithril full plate with a darkwood shield for a 24 ac before magic or class features. all you give up is -2 to attack.
but then again it sounds more like you want to play a monkish spear fighter if i remember that movie right. i would play a sohei monk for that.
and remember the golden rule of rpg's. you can choose any weapon you want and reskin it to be a spear, so dont think you're forced to use the stats for a spear, just get your gms permission.

i would rather play a mobile fighter over any other fighter archetype. they get a full attack - 1 every round, only issue is lack of weapon training, which can be fixed by mixing 8 levels of sohei for a 3 extra attacks and weapon training.
mmmm... we call that the dakka gun blasta build.

i had a teammate who assassinated an npc while it was effected by sleep, lets just say my pally didnt take kindly to that, so i knocked the little a-hole unconcious dragged him to the magistrate i knew and trusted through in game roleplaying, sent him to jail for murder. man that table got hot quick, but it was so worth while lol.
play your paldin how you want to, deal with the concequences when they arise, and make sure you keep it in game.

man dwarves have been the "best race" in terms of racial features as long as i can remember, and now they can take a feat that adds +2 vrs spells, on top of the +2 to spells they already have... sheesh.
one thing that pisses me off is that half orcs are STILL the weakest race by far. a once per day die hard is crap, no feats and the only really cool thing they get is DARK VISION??? i hate this game >>
