After a continues period of examining the surroundings, Olwyn gives up on the door.
She walks over the door and feels it, "This is magic... But... I have no clue how use that to our advantage... It seems unlikely we will be able to dispel it and equally unlikely one of our more physically imposing members could smash through it..." With a sigh of defeat the witch begins to backtrack, "I fear we have wasted a use of our bell, and the best course of action is try another path..."
"I don't know... I'm pretty stumped by this one." the witch says with annoyance in her voice.
While Gazzer is searching the room, Olwyn attempts to sense any arcane elements to the room's design hoping to find a link between the odd "doors" and the cryptic statue.
In case anything hits her as being magical:
Olwyn reaches back through her years of magical study and attempts to deduce the exact nature of the magic used on the seals:
"The three seals are all infused with abjuration magic. So they could be seals of some kind to keep us out... Or well, to keep something in..." "But as far as which direction to proceed... Your guesses are as good as mine..."
I think it is just the standard initiative for the creature type. Familiars don't get any bonus there. Also just assume he hides out on me during combat. I'd rather not have my spellbook get make into a fur shawl. :) Olwyn scrambles away in a panic at the attack and moves behind one of the heavily armed companions. She then calls upon her arcane might and unleashes a debilitating hex of misfortune on the attacker.
"Fear not, Balin, for I have endured communions with far more terrifying entities than we will see here. While not fond of such confined spaces, I will not let you, the others, or our Lady of Graves down." Olwyn reaches into her robes and pulls out the black rose given to her, "I am Olwyn of the Unseelie. While my abilities may rise from a different source, I can assure you my faith in the mad prophet is great, and I owe my life to Her church." She gestures to the arctic fox sitting patiently beside it. He eyes the cleric with a degree of intelligence that far exceeds what anyone would expect from the animal.
Within one of the vast open chambers of the library, a young woman was surrounded by dusty tomes, stacks of parchment, and unbound scrolls. She had scarcely left the building for days only pausing briefly for meals brought to her by the library's curator. The young Varisian had long flowing white hair and emerald eyes, and she was clad in dark brown knee-high boots, well-fit tan trousers, an unadorned muslin blouse with a dark brown corset, and a flowing deep-red silken robe worn open. Criss crossed leather belts contain her spell component pouches/familiar's pouch and crossbow bolts respectively, and a small white fox sat curled up by her feet. Suddenly she was interrupted by a man in black robes carrying a black, thornless rose and a sealed scroll.
Not bothering to look up the massive book, she dismissed him with a scoff,
"You know as well as I, that She sees your path from birth to death. You should know, that while you find your judgement sealed; that is not the case. Your soul is still your own even if that may not remain the case for long. Use the time you have left well and you can redeem yourself." With that the man left the scroll and rose on top of one of the stacks and departed. Olwyn stared for a long time at the rose: a symbol of good luck for those devoted to Pharasma. She knew the old man well as he had led her to the faith in the first place after she arrived in the city alone and afraid. A rare smile crept onto her face, and she grabbed the scroll.
Zirt: Been tweaking the story, the character was an idea I had for a Winter campaign with some friends that fell through. As far as the nature of the pact and the patrons, a lot of that is still unknown to her as is common for witch characters' relations to their patrons. She was promised to them as a mortal vassal, but how such a thing would play out is pretty open to what could develop RP wise. And for the low Wisdom, as described back in the 3rd ed books, high int and low wis characters are typically book smart but not very high in the common sense category. Basically she wouldn't always make the most prudent of decisions, tends to be trusting, and is often oblivious to things around her.
Here is my witch for consideration. The backstory may need a bit of tweaking. As far as a profession or similar key skill, hers is history knowledge. Practically speaking, her best weapon is her crossbow, but she has much more sentimental attachment to her mundane blackthorne staff. I am using a modified version of this character for a silly beer & pretzles campaign, but would love to be able to use her in a more focused/RP heavy scenario. All info in the profile.
This seems fun, albeit strange. This character will need a bit of tweaking if accepted (made with 20 pt build and far less gold). But if you are ok with accepting it, I will do the adjustments (probably add the points to wis, buy an ioun torch and fix the skills). Character details in the profile. Thanks! |
