As terror in his breast died down, Nsizi moved back into the chamber. He solemnly thanked the elementals who had assisted them, and they returned to their home planes. Grateful that the others didn't question the source of his cowardice, Nsizi nodded to Min and moved around the chamber, checking the children, hoping against hope to find that they yet lived.

Achahut moved among his dead, stripping them of anything the tribe could use. He then kicked their naked bodies into the water, denying their spirits a peaceful afterlife.

Between Min and Achahut we got him. So Zeljka, I recommend a coup de grace.:)

His heart filled with terror, Nsizi stumbled backwards, nearly falling into the swirling moat. Catching his feet, he found his way onto the plinth and ran for it.

The two elementals continued their coordinated attack, and finally Daruthek's summoned elemental dissipated into nothingness.

aether elemental melee slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
air elemental melee slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Hey, you tell us to write our intended results, and our intended result was to use that rope to pull him down. Nothing subtle about it... :)

Relief flooded through Nsizi as Daruthek finally was pulled into reach. Putting out his hand, Nsizi touched the swamp speaker, and electricity crackled through him into the mjusi.

touch of electricity, melee touch attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Meanwhile, the two elementals continued to attack the evil air elemental, slamming it against columns, and more wispy bits of it scattered and disappeared.
aether elemental melee slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
air elemental melee slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

What? All that, and you don't even give us a Huzzah? That hurts our feelings.

Seeing the evil elemental attack Min, Nsizi commanded his two, smaller elementals to keep it occupied.

aether elemental telekinetic throw, Fort save DC 12: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
air elemental melee slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

The aether elemental wrapped its multicoloured tendrils around the evil elemental, and it suddenly vanished, only to reappear on the other side of the chamber, where it slammed into the stone walls with wicked force.

The smaller air elemental flew swiftly after its displaced floe and slammed into the larger one, causing chunks of air and wind to swirl away into nothingness.

As Zeljka hefted the spear a second time, Nsizi knew that this throw could well determine the outcome of the battle. "Spirits, guide her arm, help us defeat this creature that dishonours you so."

cast guidance, +1 on next roll

I'm starting to think that Lord Hshurha is real, and that he doesn't like us.

Seeing that the whirlwind was not affecting the swamp speaker, the air elemental switched tactics, attacking with another melee slam. The aether elemental used its telekinesis to throw another of the clerics spears at the flying foe. Again, both attacks failed to harm the swamp speaker.

aether telekinetic throw: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
air melee slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

"We must get him down," Nsizi said. "Mina, I think you must try to dispel his flying, if you can. Bufi, I have an idea. Help me."[b] Pulling a length of rope that had been coiled around one of his neswambi straps, he and the half-orc hastily tied it to the end of one of the spears. [b]"If you can pierce him with this, perhaps we can pull him down. Achahut, come and help."

The mjusi joined them and held the end of the rope, bracing himself to pull if their desperate ploy worked.

Don't insult us and then rush Min for a decision! It won't go well! So, do we get another round of actions? Also, is being in a whirlwind not slowing him down at all?
I would think that would at least make it hard to concentrate.

Nsizi didn't need to be told; he grabbed Zeljka by the shoulder and called upon the spirits to help her.

CMW: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 2) + 5 = 13

Meanwhile, overhead, the aether elemental rushed at the swamp speaker, attempting to knock him out of the air. The air elemental, frustrated in its inability to damage the lizard, spun itself into a raging whirlwind, and engulfed the flying mjusi.

aether elemental: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Oh right, those three MW spears I've been carrying around, almost forgot...:)

Grabbing one of the spears he'd recovered from the dead clerics, Nsizi followed up his first strike with a second. Alas, this one clattered uselessly to the ground with Achahut's javelins.

spear: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 1 = 16

Alas I only have the one spear....

As my second standard action from haste, can I toss a tanglefoot bag to Achahut?

The two elementals continued their attack on the Swamp Speaker.

aether elemental: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
air elemental: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

However, the flying mjusi was too quick for their attacks, and avoided both. Nsizi then hefted his spear, took careful aim, and let fly at Daruthek.

confirm crit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

The spear flew straight and true, and embedded itself in the mjusi's thigh. Daruthek cried out in pain, and his flight path faltered a bit, as there was now four feet of spear hanging down from his leg.

In the cover of the mist, it was impossible to tell what was going on. Nsizi could hear the grunts and hisses of elementals attacking, but couldn't tell if anybody was hitting. His spiritual club had no enemy, so he attempted to mentally direct it to attack the Swamp Speaker, but again, couldn't tell if it was working.

aetherial elemental melee slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Seriously, the Eberron game is great, and we've been having a hard time hanging onto our 5th player. And when Fabian says "decent", he really means "amazing". :) Shari's right, we have such a solid group of 4 right now, the RP aspect of the game is lots of fun. Plus, you know, Fabian is a decent GM.

As the chamber filled with fog, Nsizi was already calling upon the spirits to disperse it. "Spirits! I call up on your breath, to blow this foul fog away, that we might defeat these enemies of the land!"

A strong gust of wind blew from Nsizi into the fog, and started to clear it away. Nsizi knew it would take several more spells to clear it away, but this was a good start.

Will this clear away part of it? Or does it have no noticeable effect until all 4 are cast?

YES YES YES! DO IT MIN!

What would be the appropriate spell to blow the fog away? Alter winds is weaker, but seems to be a wider spell. Gust of wind is stronger, but is it only a line? Could I clear away much/most of the fog with it?

Meanwhile, the small elemental continued to harass Daruthek. It was too small to throw the cleric, but there were other things in the chamber. The roiling mass of strange aetherial tendrils waved at one of the dead cleric's fallen weapons, and the weapon disappeared. Almost immediately, it appeared above Daruthek's head.

telekinetic throw: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
confirm crit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13Fail

With only one cleric left standing, Nsizi hoped that the spritual iwisa would take care of it. The weapon continued to batter at the mjusi, finally knocking him to the ground, not to move again.

SW attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

While his spells did their trick, Nsizi realized he was out of magic that could affect the flying mjusi. Taking a step towards Min, he grabbed the djinni's gem from the pocket where he'd seen her stow it. Tossing it to the ground, he was prepared to stomp on it, but the gem broke easily.

What size of elemental does it summon, and how long does it take?

The subject of Nsizi's summoning began to appear - strands of strange, translucent yet iridescent material swirled around each other in an eerie, undulating fashion. The creature appeared just in front of Daruthek, and for a moment it wasn't clear if the elemental was a creature, or a spell.

Nuts, got stuck here. Is this a one HD creature? I wanted to throw Daruthek, but I think he's too heavy. The children on the altars - are they attached, or just lying there? Any other throwable objects in the room?

Meanwhile, Nsizi was wondering what the wysps were up to. They didn't seem to be attacking - were they helping fuel the Swamp Speaker's spells? The Bas'o moved to the east until he had both wysps in line, then he held up a hand and beseeched, "Spirits, blow your breath into this room, bring the wind gusting to me."

A gust of fast-moving air streamed from Nsizi straight at the wysps, blowing them tumbling backwards to the edge of the room.

gust of wind

If you'd like to reconsider letting me have dire bat, I'll give you my firstborn. Well, my secondborn. She's annoying me right now. But she's cute! Wait, just saw aether elemental - can I have that?

Go Zeljka! Go Zeljka!

Can I please have something that flies?

I used this reference. It's no good?

Nsizi's spiritual iwisa continued its attack against the cleric. This time, the mjusi was able to anticipate and dodge to unheld weapon, and it hit nothing but air.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Knowing that he needed to do something to hamper the Swamp Speaker, Nsizi pulled out a second scroll. Reciting the strange words, he implored the spirits to send them an ally in this fight.

Summoning nature's ally II - DIRE BAT!

An enormous bat, its wingspan darkening the chamber, swooped down from above and wrapped its leathery wings around the floating mjusi in a tight grapple.

grapple: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Did the two bruisers already take those two potions? If not, take them now, and then Nsizi will use CLW on Achahut and Zeljka until they are within a few points of healthy. No point going in damaged.

Nsizi had slept poorly, knowing that there was a fight ahead, and that any moment their foe could come for them. However, it was enough to refresh his spirit, and he was able to draw power from the strange spirits of this place once again.

Seeing that the half-orc and mjusi were still hurt, he called upon those spirits to heal their wounds, that they might be ready to fight again. "Better to do it now, I am not always able to get to you in battle."

After they had broken their fast with a cold breakfast, he made sure they were ready to go. "I believe that we will find the Swamp Speaker in the middle. I will ask the spirits to guide us, and help us resist what he might throw at us. Bufi, I will also ask the spirits to lend you their strength, that your blows will land harder."

Guidance (+1 on next attack or save) and Resistance (+1 on saves for 1 minute),

Holding the new scroll in hand, as he was sure it would be useful, he held his spear in the other and followed Zeljka.

Action 2

for spiritual weapon, can I use Nsizi's Cha modifier instead of Wis, as that's his spell-related ability?

Nsizi looked at the floating mjusi and knew it was likely going to be the warriors that took care of him. Perhaps he could distract one of the clerics long enough for them to get the Swamp Speaker down to the ground, so they could fight him.

Reading the words on the scroll in his hand, Nsizi summoned a spiritual iwisa. The weapon, made of spiritual force, flew straight towards the southern-most cleric and began to strike at him.

SW attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

To the djinni, Nsizi said, "If we were to rest here for a few hours, would you be able to keep watch? It would help if we didn't need to rotate a guard; we could spend less time resting before we were ready to continue."

tag

if she's willing to stand guard, I say we rest down here, eat the jelly, and then go look at the plinth.

Is the scroll divine or arcane? That will determine who gets it. I think Zeljka should have the cloak, as Min already has +2 ring that won't stack with it.

Nsizi felt very weary. As much as he hated to admit it, he wasn't up for another fight just yet. "I fear we must rest before we continue. If we are afforded the opportunity, that is. I think that when we return to our floating boat, we will find that the maelstrom in the centre of the chamber will have abated, and there we will find our foes. We may not have the luxury of time."

All for heading back up, if we're able.

Nsizi nodded his head. "We have destroyed three of the seeds, and seek the final one. Do you know where it is? I expected it to be here, in this cavern, but I do not see it."

tag

He bowed to the woman, after she handed Min the gem. "Our thanks. If I may ask, do you have healing abilities? My ability to ask the spirits for aid is used for the day, and I do not think we dare wait long enough to rest and recover. However, our warriors are sorely wounded, and can not fight again without help."

Taking out his iwisa, Nsizi said, "We'll try to break you out. Unless you know if there's a key or something around here?"

tag?

Assuming we don't find a key

Nsizi stood with Achahut and Zeljka, and they bashed away at the two closest bars on the cage.

attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Nsizi slid his spear into the mjusi, who was close to death.

Come on Min, finish him off! Is Achahut still at critical, after the healing last round?

Joining Bufi at the cage, Nsizi called upon the spirits to close her wounds. He then said, "I think we just need to break one bar, perhaps two. I think your falchion will make short work of it."

CMW: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2) + 5 = 10

Nsizi was feeling close to panic. He was doing little to help fight the mjusi, and it looked like both Bufi and Achahut were close to succumbing to their many wounds.

Then, suddenly, he could hear again. The wind howled around, and the mjusi snarled and swore at each other. Looking around, he saw Mina backing away, and realized that the spell was centred on her.

He was too far from Bufi to help her, so he had to pray that the spirits would help her hang on just a little while longer. Instead, he put his hands on Achahut's back, trying not to impede his fight, and called upon the spirits for healing.

CMW: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (1, 6) + 5 = 12

Nsizi continued to press his foe, hoping to prevent the two mjusi from flanking Achahut, who was now bleeding from several wounds.

attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

The spear slid between scales and left his foe falling to the floor.

The sound of the howling wind, and the battle, and everything, just...stopped. Staring around, Nsizi could not determine what had happened. Have I gone deaf? Has the djinni cursed me? Belatedly realizing that it must be a spell, Nsizi examined the bars, trying to determine if he had the ability to break them.

knowledge engineering untrained: 1d20 ⇒ 2

However, he simply had no knowledge of the metals or their properties. He decided he was better off helping end this fight early, and helping the djinni after. He therefore turned his attention to the mjusi fighting Achahut, and surprised him with a spear to the gut.

As his companions fought, Nsizi moved as silently as he could towards the cage of the trapped djinni. Staring at the bars, he tried to figure out if he could break it quickly enough to make a difference in this fight.

Any way to open or break it? If no, then he'll attack this round.

As Nsizi took care not to be tripped upon by the advancing mjusi, he looked at the prisoner. She appeared to be a djinni. He'd never seen one before, but had heard of their mastery of air, of their magic, and their occasional deviousness. However, he was certain that this one, locked up as she was, was likely to be friendly if released.

He said nothing to the others yet, as he didn't want to give his position away. Holding his spear ready, he wondered if he would be able to release her.

Info, please! :)

Action 1

Nsizi stared around him, completely confused. "I...I have never seen anything like this. I cannot begin to understand."

Action 2

Nsizi was pretty sure there was no way to talk their way out of this one. Stepping to the side, he pulled the veil of the spirits around himself and disappeared from sight.

Invisibility, not sure to what end, we'll see...

Nsizi sighed wearily when he saw the keyhole. "With our luck, the mummies have the key."

When Bufi said she would try to disable the lock, he laid his hands on her and asked the spirits to guide her hands. "This will help a bit."

+1 to disable device

He and Achahut then moved with Min around the corner.

Nsizi nodded. "Yes, perhaps we can come back for them. But we must care for the living first." However, he couldn't shake the memory of what the Song'o leader had told him....that he had done something to anger the spirits, and that was why the children of his tribe weren't waking up. Perhaps if he was able to help these spirits, it would help.

Nsizi asked the spirits to help Achahut - the mjusi would need to be healthy for the last seed, and hopefully the last battle of this hellish day. When he was done, the Bas'o said, "Well, shall we finish this?"

CMW: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 8) + 5 = 20

Next stop...wind.

Hands on his knees, Nsizi leaned over, panting in the relative comfort of the hot bedroom. "We did it," he told Min. "I used the scroll, and it broke. Then the salamander left. That was close."

He turned to close the door to the furnace room, and saw the mummies still writhing on the floor. He did not like to see the spirits so obviously uncomfortable. He hesitated a moment, then said, "Should I try to do something for those spirits? Perhaps a healing spell. It will not help their bodies, of course, but I have heard that healing energy can soothe a damaged spirit. It seems wrong to leave them this way."

Once Nsizi translated for Achahut, the mjusi bared his teeth. "Spirits not our concern. Save healing for us. Leave the dead to the dead."

Nsizi turned to the others for their opinion.

Nsizi's consumables should show that he has no more 1st level spells, and only 4/5 2nd.

Staggered

The horrifying heat was quickly wearing the Bas'o down. There was little he could do from this distance. He started to move closer, then the fire seed caught his eye. It seemed to be just sitting there, no other guardians besides the salamander. If he could break it now, they could run instead of fight.

Taking another scroll from his neswambi, he read the strange sounding words, and attempted to dispel the magic of the seed.

please of please oh please....

Despite being ready for the heat, Nsizi still staggered before the physical assault of it. Scroll in hand, he read the divine words and sent a bolt of lightning arcing straight at the salamander.

damage: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3) = 6

Grrr

The lightning crackled into the creature, sparking in the heat.

Nsizi was really hoping to go across together. Can we split the difference between the staggered and the unstaggered, and have Nsizi and Achahut chivvy the others along, and stay together? If not, my two characters will slow down to wait for the others, we do not want to enter the room first.

If it's too late, we'll start fighting.

Did I mention that I make delicious cookies? Almost as good as Shari's.

So, I think we should be ready to rush in and hit hard. AND we should all stick together. Let's do guidance and resistance for everybody, that will help a bit, then Min's scroll on Zeljka, then we rush in, make our saves, and kill it in one blow. Right? Right!

I'll make more saves...

As Nsizi and Achahut hurried past the moaning mummies, he heard Min's voice mentioning a scroll. "Wait!" he cried out, hoping they could hear him over the roar of the furnace. "Let us catch up."

A moment later they were all safely together in the relative comfort of the bedroom. Achahut kicked aside one of the bodies of his ex-tribesman, baring his teeth at it.

Panting from the heat, Nsizi held up a hand while he caught his breath. "We need a plan. It is too hot in there to stay long. We cannot use fire spells on that thing, and I do not know any spells of ice." He looked through the scrolls he'd acquired. "I have lightning. That should hurt it. I think we must hit hard and fast together, and then I can use the dispel magic scroll to stop the seed."

Moving to each one of them, he called on the spirits for healing, guidance, and resistance.

Woah woah woah! Can we put the brakes on here? As we are not being followed, please let Nsizi and Achahut catch up before casting the scroll on Zeljka. I'd like to heal us up before heading back in, and also, can't these rings help us out? Or are they basicly the same as endure elements. I'm trying to figure that out now...

"Salamander!"Nsizi said, staring at the fiery foe. The heat was overwhelming, and he put a hand out to steady himself, then cursed as the scorching wall singed him.

"Cold, use cold against it," he said, knowing how unlikely it was that they had any at their disposal.

Quote:
Min stopped in her tracks, resisting Zeljka's efforts to move her forward. "No, I can't! We can't fight like this! We need to go back to the bedroom and regroup. I have a scroll that might help!"

Nsizi was okay with that plan. Grabbing Achahut's arm, he tugged the mjusi back through the haunt.

Not sure how movement is going to work since Achahut attacked, but assuming we're able to, I'm good with backtracking.
