Oops, didnt think it was my turn. I'm a moron. As the insects scurry over Blake, I thought about what to do. Clearly swinging an axe at the man wasnt a smart move, so I dropped one hand off of it, and tried my best to swat at the creatures swarming over him. Attack?: Here goes nothing, I think I did this all right... Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Dmg: 1d3 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
M Human Barbarian 1
I will too. Also, are there rules to melee into spiders swarming on someone? lol I looked through the srd, and couldnt find anything that would modify it. It just doesnt seem right to me that I dont take a negative modifier to swinging an axe at a swarm of bugs crawling on someone, lol. I wont be around much this weekend either. :-/
M Human Barbarian 1
Two giant centipedes were the cause of that clacking noise. Blake and Brinda ran forward, Both showing off some neat skills in taking out one of the centipedes. I stepped behind the second centipede, trying to avoid its notice and get it between me and Blake. Sad at the possibility of dulling my axe, I swung down at the... insect? Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 (Add +2 if Nornan gets a flank)
M Human Barbarian 1
For sure, you had a clearly great run. I loved the organization, but thats because I think I liked the idea of it. Having this hidden faction of society that resented the loss of their ability to oppress and profit off of others... it was neat. The monster gave me the willies, like I said. I cant comment on the numbers, as I barely understand them, lol, but the flavor of the whole thing was really inventive to me. Actually, it reminded me of a cyber-punk-esque nanomachine thing, where one controlling being is able to manage a whole host of others. *shivers* Well, we get to vote again next year. ;)
M Human Barbarian 1
Awesome. I'll keep on top. I found myself getting angry at some of the judges comments, lol. I especially liked the organization entry. Unlike some of the douc... I mean judges, I found the idea of an old-guard merchant class that still harbors some resentment to abolition to be cool.
M Human Barbarian 1
Interesting undoubtedly. But there's something making a clicking noise coming from down the stairs. And I'm not sure, but it might be getting closer. Hm, maybe its time to get in front and see whatever this is. I moved towards the stairs, careful of the pool, and tried to see what was coming. Another perception? I'm not sure when to do new rolls for anything. Also, sorry for the delay, the weekend was nuts (and depressing, go pats).
M Human Barbarian 1
Unacceptable! ;) Life gets in the way, I think we all understand, lol. If the game slows for a bit, it slows, then it'll pick back up. Heck, my availability on weekends is pretty unpredictable, trying to put together our wedding (yay gift convention today!). Also, congrats on the job!

I stepped further into the hallway, thankful for the way that Brinda was able to disarm the traps. More magic had me uneasy though, dont like the stuff. Keeping my light-enhanced weapon held up to see, I walked up to the pool and took a look around the little room. Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
M Human Barbarian 1
I agree. Who has experience with traps or things like that? I realized after I said that, that it wasnt the most accepting of phrases. Erm, what I mean to say is, who should be the one to do the checking? I dont have much experience with these things. Well, maybe there wasnt a good way to ask if anyone knew how to set or disarm traps without implying the obvious.
M Human Barbarian 1
I thought about making a remark, but the fact was, I was the man carrying the large intimidating ax that glowed. I let the ax drop in my left hand before giving the, well, doors a shove with my right arm and shoulder. You never specified who's weapon you made light up, so... ;) Also, perception roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Going through the build now. You've got Nornan w/ 6 skills, he gets 7 (4+2int+1 bonus human one). I originally had them listed w/ the armor penalty, so I changed it. Gave a skill point to Knowledge: Religion, since he would have had some learning in that area. Question: so I get to choose an extra skill or HP pt for each level gained as a barbarian, right? Does this apply at level 1? If so, his HP is 14, if not, 13. Other than that... I think everything's kosher.

It looks like my education has come in handy. We studied the thassilonian runes. Some of the oldest of our traditions have elements of the language, and my teacher always said that our language came from it, too. Anyway, the star looking one is a symbol of the study of magic, called a sihedron. The large bull's head represents wrath. Past that, I dont know much. I'd be willing to bet they have to do with this break int he wall though. It seems like some of that studying paid off. The old languages came easy to me, but beyond some of the rituals I had been trained to perform, I dont know much about them.

I can begin now, I just need to get a few things from my room. As to this Lonjiku, the fact that he died at this time, and is so connected with the glassworks, needed for access to these tunnels, strikes me as odd. For Lonjiku's sake, I hope it is a coincidence. It is odd. As to the exploration we were about to undertake, I was hesitant. Looking around at the others, it was obvious quickly that while my new allies were both motivated and ernest in their desire to help, if the ship hit the rocks, it would fall to me to be the muscle. Not something I liked to do. But, better than letting more people get hurt.

The talk of the Old Light had me curious. But I was also interested in the fate of the locksmith. It would be my suggestion that we investigate it as well. If something happens again, more of the town may suffer. Speaking of, how is the locksmith doing? I also noticed he was holding on to some strange tube of a metal I had never seen before. It was not steel, I am certain.

The previous night had been crazy. I could still feel the remnants of the burns itching, even though they had been healed through some magic means. I'd heard stories of people feeling missing fingers and legs even after they're gone, maybe its like that. We gathered in the Mayor's office to, I guess, find out exactly what happened. I was curious myself, wondering what had gone on in the old man, Brodert's, house. The offer of thanks took me slightly off guard, and I stuttered out a response, a little before thinking. Thank you for the offer, mayor. If it will help the city, I am simply Nornan. I, umm, have no, I guess the term is, adult name. A matter of pride, admitting this has me embarrassed. I hoped, perhaps, that the others didnt know the significance.

I watched in horror as the house collapsed, knowing who was inside. They said they had gone into the fireplace, so I ran, trying to get there as quickly as I could. The bottom bit of it still stood, but the top had collapsed just after the house itself. The opening of the second floor fireplace was there, and I tried to see if anyone was in it. Didnt seem like it. So the top bit fell, but the portion containing our secret pan-dimensional room is still standing, right? Not sure how much of the first floor exists to walk on, though.
M Human Barbarian 1
Going into the fireplace. I didnt understand. If he was worried about the house, I decided to make an exit. I turned, and quickly left through the front door. I rounded the corner of the house, trying to keep enough distance to avoid being hurt, but also be there in case they needed help getting out through the window.
M Human Barbarian 1
Wow. Just. Wow. This is what I get for trying to post at work surrounded by kids, lol. Ignore my last post pls. :) In the chimney? Down here? What are you talking about? I am thoroughly confused. Why would someone be in a fireplace? How would they fit? How do you climb up? He's about as confused as I was the last time I read the thread lol
M Human Barbarian 1
Gotcha. Thanks. Currently at 8hp. Kicking in the door was surprisingly easy, given the fire. Hindsight, shoulda just pushed. When the doorframe hit me, it didnt hurt as much as the blacksmith's house, but was still painful. Looking around, the house was not in good shape. To my left was a set of stairs, which seemed like the place to go, based on the bed sheet hanging out the window. I took a few steps, brushed the ash and splinters off as best as I could, and looked up the stairs. Framed by the smoke and fire of the blaze consuming the house, I spotted Clarence, standing there looking somewhere. Clarence! Its Nornan! What have you guys found? After the previous two encounters with fire, I was less than enthusiastic about taking a run up the stairs without thinking.
M Human Barbarian 1
Watching the house, trying to see anyone through the window, I saw and heard a huge section of the roof fall through on the right side of the house. No time like the present, because if anyone was inside, they needed to get out, now. I walked up to the front door, and did my best to kick it in, hoping the fire had weakened the frame enough to make it easy. As the door opened, I looked around what seemed to be the entrance way, wary of the fire. Perception1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Blake pointed the way to some house two doors down. The look on his face was one of fear and numbness, I think. My thanks, and thank you again for before. I'm going to see if they need any help. I ran the short distance to the house he indicated, leaving Blake to himself. The burns on my back and shoulder burned with each step, but I tried not to think of that as I approached the burning house. A sheet fluttered in a window, looking as if it was done after the fire started. A cry for help, perhaps. The front door was closed, and fire raged inside. Unsure of where the two women and old man ran to, I yelled at the house, trying to get over the noise of the blaze. Hello in there! Are you ok? Perception roll to see if I spot anything through any of the windows. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
M Human Barbarian 1
Blake came through exactly when I needed. I have to admit that for a minute there, I did not think I'd make it. The water put out the fire just enough to get the hole big enough to escape. The look on the young man's face says how much it took to even do what he did. Thank you master Deverin. Without your action, I think we might have died. Any word of the others? Master Azaren mentioned someone by name, but I dont know who he spoke of. As the Sheriff's men took away the locksmith, I cant help but wonder what it was he was holding on to so tightly. Too late now to get it though. Sorry for the delay, trying to plan a wedding lol expensive.
M Human Barbarian 1
Well, dinner, a cut finger, and takeout later... Btw, awesome save rolls for me. ;) Someone yelled that there was possibly a survivor in the burning locksmith. Something in me switched, and I turned and lept into the building without thinking. The door was missing, burnt or exploded out. The light sandals I was wearing did little to protect my feet from the burning floor. Looking around, I noticed a boot sticking out. Enough to go on, and pulling on the boot sticking out of the adjoining doorway revealed a dwarf clutching onto some metal tube, but completely unconscious. I stopped thinking, yelling as a patch of ceiling collapsed and hit me in the back. I tried to get out of the way, but not quick enough. The burning only increased the panic I was beginning to feel. Grabbing the unconscious dwarf, I threw him on my back. I turned, went back through the door into the main room, and saw... nothing. The doorway was gone. A small hole in the wall remained, revealing Blake standing in the courtyard, apparently immobilized. I yelled, the smoke scalding my throat. Blake! I need help! With nowhere to go, the building continued to burn around me, and all I could do was stare into the hole hoping there was a way out. If not, I didnt know what I could do.
M Human Barbarian 1
I noticed the reaction that Blake had immediately. Hard not to, as he changed completely. Poor man, I had seen the scars, clearly burns, but he'd never mentioned the cause. No surprise, as that kind of pain must be... difficult. It seemed best to ignore it, for the moment. But what was also noticeable was the sudden change in the fire. The pillar of light disappeared, leaving behind plain old fire, devastating the surrounding buildings. Rain began to fall, doing little to dampen the heat of the fire. Someone may still be trapped in the fire, and saving them... we had to act. We need to get there and see if anyone is still alive, or anything worth saving. I ran towards the fire engulfed buildings, trying not to think of how my hopes were shrinking.

Ameiko came to relieve me of door duty. For all the blustering and yelling I did, it didnt seem to have much of an effect. The people in the inn must have been pretty panicked, judging by their lack of response to a large, unfamiliar man yelling and swinging a club. As she came to tap me on the shoulder, I saw Blake and Clarence leave through a side door. The older man gives a quick wave and come sign, looking at me. A small hesitation, but it seemed that Ameiko had the situation in hand, perhaps better than I did. I kept the club in hand, and thought quickly about running upstairs to my little attic loft, and grabbing gear. No, better to get out there and see what was going on. Ducking through the kitchen entrance, I came out onto Mud Street, which was oddly calm. About thirty feet in front are Blake and Clarence, staring at a giant light beaming into the sky. Fire comes shooting out. Closing my mouth, I run to catch up with the two men, in a hurry to see if they need help. Need any help? What is going on? I still get flustered talking to those outside my, err, old... tribe, and it comes out simple sometimes.

The night was continuing steadily, and having pointed the two men in the right direction, I settled in for the long haul. The stool they gave wasnt the most comfortable, but it was a better bet than standing. Doing my best to avoid looking like I was listening, I couldnt help but eavesdrop on the conversation Blake was having with Clarence. Tunnels of some kind, huh. Interesting. Might even be a part for me in it, since Blake's been relying on me for jobs more and more. Suddenly, a bright light and loud noise shake me out of my concentration. Turning to look through the door, I stood and saw nothing other than a blinding bluish white light, different than sunlight. The noise continued, and my first thought of thunder or fire went out the window. Fires dont make a booming noise, explosions and lightning stop. The crowd inside went crazy. Ameiko stood on a chair in her best effort to stop the confusion and panic. I reached down behind the stool, grabbed the little club they gave me to look menacing, and tried my best to stop the pushing and shoving. Yelling to get above the noise outside. Lets go, everyone walk. You start shoving, and I start thumping heads! Hopefully that would help keep people from getting hurt. Intimidate roll? Why not. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
M Human Barbarian 1
As the night went on, time passed surprisingly quickly. Lysa and Ameiko have incredible voices. The inn stayed busy and nothing happened requiring my intervention. A funny thing, as large and intimidating to others as I may be, I am not really good at acting the part. Well, I feel like I'm not. Thinking on this, I was startled a bit when the older Master Azaren came in, asking about Blake. [b]Err, good evening. Yes, he is here, at a table over there. As a matter of fact, he was asking about you earlier. Have a good night, Master Azaren.
M Human Barbarian 1
Another night at the Rusty Dragon. The day had been uneventful. I set out in search of odd jobs, but asking around I was unable to find anything. When I came to this little village a few months ago, I was hopeful but realistic about my chances. I know that my appearance can be... lets say, disarming, to others not familiar with my tribe. But I thought that after a little time around, people would get to know me, and I could make inroads. This was not the case. Today, I left the inn early, trying to see if there was any work in the market. While people were polite, there was no missing the attitude of unwelcome. The man Blake has been different, perhaps from what happened in childhood. I saw the scars, working for him at his brewery. We never had beer back home, but had something similar that we made from plants, sitting in the sun for a few weeks. Not nearly as tasty. Working for Blake has been a rare high point. He's been friendly and never shies away from a good talk, at least after the first couple of weeks. And the beer. I've taken a liking to that. The night began like any other, except the weather meant that we had more patrons than usual. So far, no disturbances. Blake came in early, asking about Clarence, the teacher at the academy I had seen around a number of times. Good evening, Mr. Deverin. No, Master Azaren has not been in tonight. It may be a little early. As to the stout, I am pretty excited to try it. Lets see if the light flavor of the Jumnu is able to overcome the maltiness of the stout. I'm sure you did it, though. Maybe. The stouts I had had from Blake were always heavy on the malt. Gods, three months ago, I would never have known stout or malt. As Blake walked off to find his usual seat near the back, I noticed the young half-elf cleric get up and begin to sing with the band. A nice voice, she had.
