Background for your 3 characters (from the stance of fitting into the AP) is that you were potential recruits for a previous mission of Duravor’s. The job was to join the crew of a deep space mining tug - The Acreon owned by a scrappy clan of asteroid miners calling themselves The Hardscrabble Collective. Its mission was to head into The Drift to prospect a large asteroid they had identified for potential harvest. Duravor vouched for the Collective - ”Flinty folk but good” he was fond of saying, and while you 3 were under strong consideration, the miners selected from their own membership for the mission. Chow-time chatter between candidates suggested that the mining conglomerate Astral Extractions were bank-rolling the operation and pushed for the clan to keep things in-house. While you ultimately were not selected, your collective skills and personas made enough of an impression on the curmudgeonly dwarf that he kept you all on a retainer, and got to know him better over the last month. What you all did know through time spent was that the hard-nosed dwarf had no family on the station, no real friends but likewise no known enemies. A native of Diaspora - the asteroid belt between Verces and Eox, Duravor was a mid-ranking member of the Starfinder Society who took an interest in recruiting and mentoring prospective members to the Society - ”Polishing rough diamonds” as oft put it. While the details supplied to you by your source are limited (I’ll presume one of you had some connection in AB-SEC [Absalom Station Security] that gave you the heads up on the tragic event).
