That was incredibly helpful, thank you.

Recently, my players fought a squad of babaus, and to their credit, they handled it like champs. However, the demons' Protective Slime ability got me thinking about weapon and armor damage.

Under what situations would I deal damage to, say, a shield, armor, or an item hanging from somebody's belt, in addition to what the player would take? Up until now I've just been ticking off the players HP total, but it seems like something along the lines of a breath weapon or Acid Fog might eventually break their items.

What sort of effects damage a character's items, and what is the procedure for saving throws, knowing what items were affected, etc?

I'm trying to switch my players over to metal miniatures as a gift for reaching 10th level. It's been fairly easy to find exciting and utterly befitting figures for all of my players, save for one.

He's playing a Paladin, and he has gone out of his way to specialize in the tower shield. It makes perfect sense: he was the first player to roll a new lvl 1 when everybody else was lvl 8, so of course he'll want to make his AC worthy of a party that level. However, I have been through tons of miniature companies, and aside from a whopping two prepainted WotC D&D guys, there has not been a knight with a tower shield in the whole lot of them! Not even a loose tower shield on a sprue or something. Any ideas where I could find one?
