"Well, we’ve survived the trials that awaited us, but now our true challenge begins," Ndombe said, his voice steady but filled with anticipation. "Tazion may hold the secrets we seek, but its ruins are as treacherous as any jungle path. We must be cautious and deliberate in our search." He looked to his companions, Umngane by his side, ready for the journey ahead. "Let us move forward with purpose—time is still against us, and the ruins will not wait for us to catch our breath." He then gestured toward the broken walls of Tazion, the ancient stonework now covered in vines and sediment. "We shall start with the side openings. Let us not waste time with the main entrance unless there is no other choice." "Keep your wits about you. We have already faced manipulation and chaos—there’s no telling what we’ll encounter within."

Ok Heroes, I head out to Scouts BSA Summer Camp tomorrow morning for a week. Wish me luck with that endeavor. Following that, it is family reunion at a State Park for the next week. If I pop in to the game, it will be quick, and not very substantial, so press on, and keep things moving.

Ndombe’s eyes narrowed as he scanned the clearing, his mind piecing together the strange and unsettling events around him. His senses had caught the flicker of magic earlier when Masozi cast a spell in his direction—a spell he instinctively resisted, though he could not yet say what it was. He felt a growing unease, and his gaze shifted to Zakiyya, whose voice now carried an unnatural force. "Something is wrong," he said loudly to the group, his tone firm. "I have resisted a spell cast by Masozi, but I do not know its nature. It was subtle, and yet... something is not right." His eyes shifted to Zakiyya, who was speaking with an unnatural authority. "And Zakiyya has cast 'Dominate Person' on one of us. I saw the command in her eyes—she told one of us to go north. This is a problem." He paused for a moment to take in the situation, his mind racing to formulate the next step. Ndombe turned to Alala, who had attempted to calm one of the animals. His eyes locked on the other animal, watching for signs of its resistance or influence. It was time to test which one had been affected. "I will test her influence now," Ndombe declared to the group, his voice carrying a note of resolve. He began to trace the symbols in the air, calling upon the power of Gozreh. "By Gozreh’s will, let this be still!" His fingers moved with practiced precision as he spoke the arcane words. "Hold, Zakiyya! Bind the mind—stop her movements!" With that, he directed his attention to Umngane, his loyal ape companion. "Umngane, strike her now!" he commanded firmly, and the ape moved forward without hesitation, ready to attack as Ndombe prepared himself for whatever would come next. He turned back to the group. "We must act swiftly—Zakiyya’s control over one of us could lead to further danger." Ndombe will cast Hold Person Will DC 15 on Zakiyya, and Umngane will move and attack her. Just to clarify, with the +5 because we’re in hostilities, I don’t think that spell affected me. If you want to rule that it did affect me, what she is asking me to do should cause an “opposed charisma check.”

Ndombe noticed the flash of disappointment in the woman's eyes, and he felt a twinge of regret for denying her request. His people were warm and expressive, and a gentle gesture could often soothe a bruised spirit. Standing across the clearing, he raised his hand to his lips, pressing a warm smile into his fingertips before extending it outward in a soft, playful kiss carried by the evening breeze. "A kiss to remember, though from afar," he called, his voice carrying the tone of good-natured warmth. "May the spirits grant us another meeting, perhaps in brighter days." With that, he gathered his belongings, securing his trident and nodding to Umngane before turning to gather his companions. The journey called to him, and he was ready to meet it with heart and spirit. "Let us be off my friends."

Ndombe listened carefully to Zakiyya's offer, her words laced with warmth and a playful allure. He inclined his head respectfully, appreciating the gesture of hospitality but mindful of the journey ahead. "Your kindness is noted, Zakiyya, and I am grateful for your invitation," he began, his tone respectful yet firm. "But my companions and I have traveled far with pressing matters to attend to. It would not honor our path to linger longer than necessary, even with such fine company as yours." He glanced toward his fellow travelers, nodding in agreement with their shared goal to press on. "As for my stories," he continued with a slight smile, "perhaps there will be a time and place for such tales on another day. For now, we must see to our journey with all due haste." Ndombe offered a final polite nod. "May Gozreh’s winds guide us swiftly forward, and I thank you again for your hospitality."

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 Ndombe bowed his head respectfully, taking a moment to consider the offer. His connection to the natural world was deep, shaped by the traditions of his people and his devotion to Gozreh. Raising his gaze to meet the girls, he spoke with calm sincerity. "I thank you for your offer, and I know it is made with great respect," he began, his tone gentle but firm. "Among my people, we honor the wind and the waves, the skies and the seas, in our worship of Gozreh. Our bond with nature is strong, but it does not include the awakening of spirit animals, as it does in some faiths." He glanced at Umngane, his loyal companion, before returning his focus to the group. "To awaken him in this way, while powerful, would not align with the traditions of my people, nor with my own path as a priest of Gozreh. I do not wish to dishonor your beliefs, but I must follow the ways that have been passed down to me." He smiled kindly, placing a hand over his heart in a gesture of goodwill. "I trust that you understand, and I am grateful for the offer nonetheless."

Ndombe smiled as he listened to the conversation unfolding around the group. His mind wandered back to the warm days of his homeland, the familiar sounds of the river and the vibrant laughter of his people. With a deep, rumbling chuckle, he leaned slightly forward, addressing his companions. "Among my people," he began, his voice carrying the cadence of ancient wisdom and mirth, "there are many stories, some serious and others... less so, that all begin the same way—by the riverbank, where young women are found. Whether it is the tale of a great hunt or a lesson on the dangers of temptation, the river always plays its part." His eyes sparkled mischievously as he continued, "And in truth, some of these tales, especially the ones told after the fire has burned low, carry with them a bawdy humor best shared in trusted company." He glanced around at his companions, his smile widening as he gauged their reactions. "But perhaps I will save those for another time," he added, his tone light and playful.

Ndombe watches as Shalissa examines the spoils of battle, his stern expression softening with respect as she offers the spear and amulet to the group. Stepping forward, he glances at the items briefly before shaking his head. "I thank you for the offer, Shalissa," Ndombe begins, his deep voice steady as he speaks. "But I already bear a similar blessing around my neck." He considers the proffered amulet, and adds, "unless, that is, no one else desires the thing, in which case, I am sure Umngane could make use of its protections." He then gestures toward the spear, pausing as if considering it. "As for the spear, my hand wields only the trident, for it is the chosen weapon of Gozreh. Another might make better use of this." Ndombe nods, stepping back, and glances briefly toward Umngane, the ape watching the proceedings with equal interest.
