Meta-Thoughts:First off - has anyone considered calling this concept faction/ideal the Torchbearers, rather than Lanternlighters? Just a thought.
Obviously, the lamplighters try to avoid combat when possible. When combat is unavoidable, we capture or otherwise spare our foes. A slain enemy is a failure of purpose.Similarly, the use of diplomacy to make friends whenever possible is always desirable. Cementing inter-personal alliances should be paramount. Even a person decides they don't like the society and probably never will, blackmail, bribery or any other levers on the person is an acceptable way to secure their ongoing aid.
Skills like bluff, diplomacy, intimidate, sense motive, and linguistics are sought after by the Lamplighters.
Meta discussion:
I also think 'torchbearers' has a sounds slightly better than 'lamplighters', though who knows, if the Lantern lodge morphs into an informal clique of sophisticates, maybe they will be "Lantern Lighters".
