Backstory:
(Note: uses the original tiefling age categories: Adulthood 60+, 150 middle age) Naali grew up as an only child in the port city of Egede in Mendev with her mother, Almorra, who ran a small alchemy and herbalist shop - a tiny storefront hidden away between the more gaudy and wealthy stores. Naali never knew her father, who left when she was born, leaving her mother to raise her alone. As a tiefling, growing up was difficult, and even more so in Mendev where people were rightfully suspicious of the demon-blooded race. Despite these difficulties, Almorra's love for her daughter never faltered, and she raised Naali as best she could. Naali was the subject of ridicule from other children, and disgust from their parents, so she grew up underfoot in the alchemist shop, learning the trade and helping gather herbs whenever her mother needed them. Only the the clergy of the city's church of Sarenrae were unreservedly kind to Naali and her mother - a fact that she has always been grateful of. Naali's demonic bloodline caused her to age quite slowly, and she spent more and more time running the shop in her mother's place. Eventually her mother passed away, and Naali was left to run the shop alone, in a city that hated her race. After a few years, she couldn't stand it anymore, and decided to carry on her mother's legacy by traveling the world to expand her knowledge of alchemy. She sold the shop to pay for adventuring supplies, and set off. Besides wanting to quench her thirst for knowledge, she did have another goal. Her mother had passed without telling her much about her father - Naali had of course picked up rumors earlier in her life, but few were left who knew much. The only person who remembered was an old colleague of her fathers, and after several years, she managed to track him down - it took an additional year just to convince him to share what he knew.
It took years of searching, but she had finally managed to track down a quasit who knew of her father - it had been hiding in a city, gleefully sowing chaos. And just as Naali thought she had found and cornered the creature... she was right. It was the quasit - but she was too late. It had been slain by a paladin, who still stood above its corpse - her decade long search and all her work had been destroyed. The elven paladin, upon learning of Naali's situation, felt responsible, and pledged to help Naali find another lead. The two have been traveling ever since, hoping to stumble across another clue on their journeys. Notes:

Appearance:
Naali is a 5'0" tall tiefling woman with a thin build that appears to be in her mid twenties. She has rouge red skin, extremely dark purple-black hair and orange eyes. Two thick curving horns sprout out of her messy shoulder length hair, and are often decorated with jewelry. From a hastily sewn opening on the back of her clothing sprout two small bat-like wings. Too weak for flight, they still stretch and flutter open occasionally. A thin tail pokes out from underneath Naali's cloak - unlike her wings, her tail is strong enough to hold and grab things - a skill she frequently uses when working on alchemy. ======================================== ======================================== ======================================== Sidekick

Backstory:
Anna grew up amongst other elves in Kyonin, in the city of Greengold. Unlike most of Kyonin, Greengold was one of the few places that had visitors from outside of the elven country. Many of the elves who lived there looked down on the other races that visited the city, but Anna was fascinated by them. Every merchant wagon had a story to tell of their travels, and the trials they endured during the trip and Anna would wait at the gates for the yearly caravans, greeting the traders as old friends, and listen to their stories. While her elven peers climbed social ladders with plans spanning over decades, Anna grew to love the quick paced lives of the trader and guards. One of the traders took a wrong turn on their way to the city one day, and found themselves far into Kyonin, where visitors were not allowed. Anna volunteered as part of the group to investigate, hoping to turn them back on their way. The others, she learned, did not have such benevolent plans. When the elven group arrived, the others insulted the traders, and threatened their lives for trespassing. Anna did not stand for that, and stood between the two groups, vowing that the traders would not come to harm. Her companions relented, and Anna guided the wagon back out of Kyonin. The traders couldn't be more thankful for her help. The caravan leader's daughter gave Anna a small sewn doll to thank her, promising that she would have another next year, and they would be able to play. After the traders left, Anna quickly became a pariah among the other elves - a traitor willing to betray her own kind to side with humans. As friends distanced and abandoned her to further their own goals, Anna simply counted the days until the traders returned. But the group never arrived. Fearing the worst, Anna left Greengold to search for them. And in her search, she learned of the true struggles of the common folk who traveled the roads, of the stories too painful for travelers to tell, and of those who were lost on the road. Anna was never able to find out what happened the merchants she had saved, but pledged that she would protect the weak and innocent, and began her training as a paladin of Alseta. It would be years later when she met Naali by chance, after hunting down a quasit her mentor had learned of. Anna Illyuin is a 6'2" elven woman with chestnut hair and blue eyes. She has a tall, athletic build, and wears well maintained, shining armor. Her breastplate has nature motifs, with intertwining vines and roses. Her hair is tightly braided, and falls around her shoulder. She carries a heavy curving blade that whose design matches her breastplate. She is 123 years old. |
