I've had a concept for a shadowrun game that I've wanted to explore for a long while. It would be a two part game, exploring the third VITAS outbreak in 2046 England. I need to do a bit more work on my worldbuilding before I'd feel comfortable running it but it's interesting to see that there might be some demand for it here... Another possibility for a game would have the characters working as troubleshooters for Hestaby. You'd be a paramilitary unit looking after her interests in the California Free State, the surrounding NAN area, and perhaps the occasional foray into Seattle. I might put up an "interest check" thread in the next month or two if I end up having enough time to develop one of these campaigns...

"So, team... I'm going to chase down some contacts. I'll meet you at the conference room of the Lakeside Motel when I know something- unless you want to meet somewhere else? OK, here's my number if you need me." Neko makes a small, almost theatrical motion of tossing something in the air.
Once he leaves the club and climbs on Sarge (his bike, described in 'UCB gear' section of character sheet) Neko focuses for a minute and calls up a minor spirit to watch over him as he rides and notify him if it sees anyone following him astrally. The diminutive figure made of flickering neon lights and rubbish nods its head and vanishes into the astral realm as Neko takes off with a roar of turbocharged engines. @GM: I'm going to meet up with WBW at the diner. Neko summons a force 1 spirit of man and asks it to use its Guard power as its service. I handwaved the summoning, since it is a force 1 spirit, we're not in combat, and the absolute worst that could happen with terrible luck is that I'd take a bit of drain and be fine in a few minutes. Let me know if you'd rather I put up all the rolls...

@GM: 1. I'd like to speak with my agent (a 3/3 contact) about booking a penthouse suite at the Luxor. If he can find a way to tie it into my career to give me a good excuse for being there, and book me for a few hours at some event on the strip that'd be great. A speaking engagement, bike show, combat sports convention, metahuman rights rally... anything like that. 2. I'd also like to speak with White Buffalo Woman (a 5/3 contact) to see if she knows anything about the theft of a magical tome. This sort of thing is right up her alley and it seems likely she would have at least heard rumors...
Male Ork Shaman
I was thinking about using some of that expense account to get a nearby room to help with the recon. My agent can probably help book the accomodations, if necessary. We almost certailnly want to keep this low-key and sneeky... unless Las Vegas has changed a lot, the number one rule is that you keep violent crime (and noticable criminal activity in general) off the strip- or else! We really don't want to anger the powers-that-be who run Vegas... It'll depend on what we find during our recon, but introducing glitches into their security systems could definitely be a good move as long as it doesn't cause the node admins to pay more attention to what's going on; that the default response to secuirty probes is to bump up the security on the affected node and roll out more ICE... you hacker-types can figure all that out IC once our GM returns

Peter PANdora wrote: "Are we doing our planning here, or moving to a more 'private' location?" "I believe we only need one more thing from our bosses," Neko makes a vague gesture toward the troll and the dancer, [b]"Once we acquire this book, how exactly will we make delivery and receive payment?" Once that detail is addressed, "Perhaps we should find somewhere a little more private to hash out the details... I know a hotel off the strip that has a business suite available for cheap. It should be secure enough." If there are no objections or suggestions for a better site to continue the discussion, Neko will book a conference room for a few hours and meet everyone there. Legwork:
Male Ork Shaman
The ork speaks up, his voice featuring a prominent Japanese accent, "Interesting team we have here. Someone had good connections to put together a group like this, I wonder if it is overkill or if someone's not telling us what we need to know..." He dismisses that path of inquiry with a vague gesture in the air,"No matter. My name is Neko, I race in the combat biking leagues. I have a few other tricks too." Neko focuses for a moment and the Mask settles over his features. For just a moment his pupils are slitted, his ears a bit pointier, and his face subtly more angular and feral- and a model of the Luxor appears on the table complete with a focused beam of light pointing toward the ceiling and illuminating the room like a tiny flashlight. Cast force 1 Trid Phantasm spell, trade 4 dice for 1 success
After introductions are complete, Neko starts brainstorming and probing for more information. "So, what is known about this book thief? Is there a reason you came to us and not Knight Errant for stolen property? Does anyone else know that this book was stolen? Could we make a plausible approach based on an offer to buy the book or a threat of extortion to spread word of its theft?" Ideally, Neko wants a dossier on their target with any information known about his physical appearance, augmentation, associates, etc... but if they want us to dig up some that information ourselves (for whatever reason), any information to start with is better than none.
Male Ork Shaman
Neko considers the offer in light of what the dancer added and voices his concern, "That price is nothing to sneer at, but usually someone putting together a job like this brings more to the table. An inside man, keycodes, surveillance... that sort of thing. If you're counting on us to do the legwork for you, you're going to have to kick in for operational expenses- bribes, specialized hardware, and the like all cost money up front. Another share 'ought to do it... what do you say?" Negotiation + Charisma test to convince our employer to add a 5k expense account to the deal 10d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 5, 4, 5, 2, 2, 1, 5) = 35 = 4 successes

Here's a (very) brief summary of our team. Please let me know if I got anyone's role wrong... Feliks - Elf, ex-military street samurai
Male Ork Shaman
Hmph. Yeah, that was Coyote. Whiskey and women... what were the odds of getting any business done with him in a place like this? Neko heads over to hear the troll's offer and considers it. He remembered the last book Coyote had hired him to recover and all the preparations that had gone into breaking into the archive... but this was probably different. 5k was decent pay for a few nights' work, as long as nothing too ridiculous was involved. There might need to be some additional negotiations for expenses and whatnot... Or-zet:"Feliks! ::chuckle:: They must expect things to get messy if they're hiring both of us on. How's it going?" In Japanese-accented English:"Yeah, I'm interested. Let's hear some details about this penthouse and we'll see if that price is in the right area." Neko has the 'Fame' drawback, so anyone can recognize him as a rising star in the combat biking leagues with a Intuition + Logic (1) test.

You could take one less rank in each language to offset the cost of the 5pt quality. The end result would be that you would have each of them at 3 and Japanese at 4, or you could keep Japanese at 3 and have an extra point to spend on gear. EDIT: I just noticed that all your language points are from the free (INT+LOG)*3 skill points, so you couldn't spend them on the linguist trait without GM approval. Another option would be to drop your pistols and perception skill down to one rank each with a specialization. That way you'd be slightly better than you are now at one category of pistols and one category of perception checks, and could scrounge up the points for the linguist trait.

Coyote is the most likely of my contacts to be meeting me at a place like this. Oh, that went down nicely. Not a single malt but a respectable blend, Neko wasn't particularly familiar with American liquors and the advent of nanotech 'distilleries' made it almost not worth trying to keep up. The snobs hated it, but nowadays there was no way to tell whether the 30 year reserve had come from a cask or from a nanoforge. Neko asks after Daisy and wanders over to the back room. Time to see what this was all about...
Male Ork Shaman
Neko had decided to be thorough in his preparations. He knew that the rep from MetaErgonomics was into strip clubs and he'd been systematically visiting as many as he could to scope out the best one to schedule the meet at. After checking out a lot of the newer, glitzier 'modern' clubs, he couldn't tell if the Velvet Lounge was an homage to the vice dens of the last century or genuinely seedy in its own right. Either way, it certainly beat that bunraku joint he'd been in last... He cast an eye over the women at work and silently laments the lack of orkish gals. He'd found damn few clubs with a mix of metatypes, it seemed that most clubs were all-or-nothing when it came to trog dancers. He'd talked to the girls and heard that it hadn't always been like that but those humanis a*!**&+s had a lot of friends and by pressuring the club managers they'd found one more way to make life hard for greenskins. Ah well, enough worrying about all that drek. Neko accepts a drink, subscribes to the club's AR, and settles in to enjoy the show while he gets a feel for this place.

If you hadn't heard, there's a new Shadowrun game being developed. It's fan-funded through kickstarter.com and it looks like they have the perfect team to make it happen. Give it a look and pitch in a few dollars if it seems like your sort of thing... only 4 days left in the fund drive.

@DaWay: There were a few things I wanted to run past you before the game starts. I'd gotten the OK from my previous GM to have the Ares Fogger Glop Cannon (Armory/pg123) mounted on my bike with the understanding that my agent had helped me procure it and get the paperwork to make it legal for his combat biking races. The availability is 15R... are you OK with it or should I pick a different weapon? One of my contacts is an insect shaman. Butterfly is one of the relatively harmless insect spirits, but I can see how it could be an unwelcome element in your game so I wanted to run it past you first. I'm kind of leaving it ambiguous as to whether she's an insect shaman or if the merge was complete and she's an actual fleshform insect spirit... I went out on a limb and bought a connection level 6 contact, Coyote. If a Mr. Johnson like that wouldn't be a good fit for your game or would end up being a waste of points just let me know and I'll replace him with two street-level contacts. Also, I wanted to double-check that you're fine with the element of Neko's backstory where he's a vigilante serial killer who shapeshifts into a panther and eats criminals. Shadowrun is dark, but I didn't want to spring that on you if it didn't fit the story you were planning on telling.

Here's a quick rundown of all the contacts we have so far... quite a crowd! Saki Jotaro (technomancer, Connection 2) – One of Neko's buddies from Tokyo. They've known each other since they were kids but it's never been a particularly close friendship. Neko got him a job in the technical side of the entertainment industry, and from time to time they work together on a project. He's not adverse to doing Neko the occasional less-than-legal 'favor' to keep his skills sharp but it's generally simple stuff that doesn't carry any real risk.
Phil M. – Phil is the head bartender for the night shift at the world famous Mirage Hotel and Casino. I got Phil out of some trouble with one of the local Mafia rings last year. He is good for a free drink and some interesting conversation. (Bartender - Connection 3)
Tarrin Feather is a very ugly Ork with as great a talent for medicine and cybersurgery as Feliks has for shooting people. Once his word is given he will not break it, so he is careful to whom he gives it and for what reason. For this reason he runs a small shop on his own rather than working for anyone else. He found Feliks bleeding to death behind his shop, and being an unrepentant Good Samaritan, he saved Feliks' life. For some reason they get along quite well, and have been mutually supportive ever since.
“Smelly” Joe: Bartender, Connection: 1
Cal Cunningham - Street Doc (connection 3): I met Cal Cunningham when he helped a kid in the street who had gotten shot by some gun-runnin' orks. He's a good guy, a medic who ain't in it for the money. He and I don't see eye to eye, but he's got a good heart and that counts with me. Doc Wagon might be a bunch of money grubbing bastards, but he's a good one.

I had a bit of time so I wrote up my lifestyle expenses using the runner's companion rules. The apartment is a bit of a change from what I posted in the questionnaire above, but it seemed to fit better: Neko's Apartment
Rad Pad (+1), Homegrown Farming (+1), quiet neighborhood (+1), friendly neighbors (+1), nosy neighbors (-2), trigger-happy landlord (-1), Ambusher's Delight (-3) A large loft apartment split roughly into a small home-office where he records his trid work and a perfect bachelor's pad, this is definitely a step up from his crowed slum apartment back in Tokyo. It's in a quiet, economically depressed neighborhood a fair way off the beaten path and while his neighbors are a little starstruck to have a genuine celebrity living near them. The landlord converted an old industrial space about ten years back and for the most part minds his own business... he doesn't care who his tenants are or what they do as long as they pay their bills on time. The room is built to fit his media persona but has few truly personal touches... the AR overlay is all about Japan and combat biking courses while the meatspace features little bike drones that zip around performing stunts and shooting things with AR weapons. They're prototypes for a toy line that Neko's trying to market that a friend of his back in Tokyo cobbled together for him, and they make for a good conversation starter. His girlfriend set up a small hydroponics garden and a bunch of container farms on the balcony and near the windows and a modest community garden on the roof. After a lifetime on synthfood the real stuff was quite a revelation... they're what he considers the most luxurious part of his current lifestyle, he knew he had it good when he could eat rich-people food every day. Abandoned office building North of the strip
No Neighbors(+1), Green plan(-1), Poor security(-1) A former high-volume datacenter back before the crash of '29, the neighborhood spiraled from a hotbed of investment to low-lease office space with cavernous basements full of junk that would cost too much to dispose of properly. As the city's center continued its slow march to the south, eventually the neighborhood was swallowed by the surrounding areas of economic blight. By the 50s it was dirt-cheap commercial property then Crash 2.0 put the final nail in its coffin. The area was officially written off as condemned and abandoned to gangs and squatters. Neko has found it an opportune spot to stage his stalks from or just to lay low for a while. Amenities are practically nonexistent; there are a few yards of solar cloth mounted up on the roof to charge the minimal lighting and low-res matrix connection, and a bicycle generator connected to a battery for low power personal electronics. An pile of blankets, an old mattress, furniture improvised from racks of ridiculously obsolete computer equipment, a handful of flashlights, and a few boxes of nonperishable "food" complete the setup.
Male Ork Shaman
Wow, that took forever. There are still a few details to polish but here's the bulk of it. Spoiler tag for convenience: Neko: • I grew up in the Tokyosprawl, on the lower levels where the sun doesn't shine and nobody topside gives a shit if you have enough to eat. We were the stereotypical trog slumrat family, I was the youngest of eight and there was never enough to go around but folks were really tight-knit and you could count on your neighbors to get you through in a pinch. They did what they could, kept me alive until I was old enough to take care of myself, but I was sick more often than not... only thing I 'inherited' was a nasty cough and a bunch of allergies.
• My parents are good folks, but they had a rough life. They learned early to keep their heads down and do what needs to be done to keep safe. I was always 'the baby' of the family and they didn't like it too much when I got into Urban Combat Biking... I guess that wasn't where it started though. Really, they didn't “get” most of the things I did after I met Cat. I tried to explain it a couple of times but mundies just don't understand • Who could forget the first time they saw a changeling? UGE and goblinization was stuff for the history books (except for the elves, cocky bastards) when SURGE hit there were about a dozen people in my neighborhood who grew new arms or horns or other crazy stuff. Nobody was sure what the hell was happening or what it meant, and all the trid news would tell it was that it was something to do with the comet... not exactly what a fellow needs to hear when he's freaking out about the glowing fur all over his body. The crash a few years later... I guess I got lucky. I wasn't doing much of note, just watching trid when the stream died. One of my buds was an Otaku, he felt like he'd got a new lease on life. He was growing up and could feel his connection to the matrix growing fainter until the crash came and suddenly he was there completely and all the time. Really makes me wonder what the past few years would have been like if the crash hadn't happened... was it destiny- something that would have happened sooner or later no matter what? Or did the past decade worth of advancements in matrix technology depend on dumb luck? • Shadowrunning? That drek's for the movies. Look, the way it works is that someone with some money to throw around mentions to one of their employees that it'd be nice if “something” happened and someone three levels down and a couple of branches over on the corporate ladder puts together a team to make it happen. It was racing that did it for me. I won a race that the Yakuza were sponsoring and that brought me and my team to the attention of some people who needed a bunch of freelancers who knew their way around the streets. You could call it shadowrunning if that's your thing, but it's just breaking laws for profit, same as people have been doing for centuries. • Heh, I guess I've got three places where I spend most of my time. There's my apartment in the North West, the abandoned office building North of the strip, and Jess's place- since it seems I'm shacking up with her more often than not lately. The apartment's got my home office that I use for scanning in the illusions and the little shrine, other than that it's kind of bland. There's the little domestic robot that rolls around and keeps things clean, but really the only part of the apartment that has any personality is the trid tank, where I spend most of my time. The office building? I don't talk about that much. It's where I go when I do my hunting... it's plenty “personalized” with blood and bones and other bits, but there aren't many amenities to speak of. Jess's place is what you'd expect from one of the 'new hippie' types. You know that big geodome on the abandoned lot in the barrens? Yeah, that's the one. Two stories tall and surrounded with all that weird container garden and the greenhouses. The guys she bribed for the permit laughed at her but damned if she didn't make it work. As far as making it my own well, uh, when I first moved in we “blessed the house” in just about every room and every position... there's a lot of memories there. Other than that I chip in for her bandwidth 'cause I couldn't stand how slow her stream was before. • Some people don't deserve another chance. They've preyed on the weak, burned their bridges and done things that there's no making up for. Cat showed me the best way of taking care of them and I don't regret what I do in the least. • This question is phrased to the player rather than the character, so I'm answering OOC. Neko transforms into a panther, hunts people, and eats them- Dexter style. Personally, I don't like the vigilante mindset and even though I'm playing Neko as a Batman-esque defender of the sprawl, it can be a bit unsettling to write that part. He tends to view things as very black and white with a significant part of his calculation being based on how convenient or gratifying the action is for him, which he creates justifications for after he's made up his mind. • Mitsuhama. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but they just get me. Almost all of the trids I like turn out to be produced by them or one of their subsidiaries, hell I'd serialize my simsense series with them in a heartbeat if they made an offer to produce it. Saeder-Krupp on the other hand... I just don't trust them. Lofwyr shows up and tosses around more money than I can imagine, then the dragon has a few million people to do whatever he wants and puts them to work for decades; I don't know how much of the way things are right now are his fault but he's sure as hell not doing anything to make things better. The worst part is that he's so damn good at running the company, so many other people with more money than sense just keep throwing cash at him because the returns are so good and don't worry about what he might be doing with it. • I'm currently rewriting Neko's contacts since they were strongly oriented towards the Tokyo game I was in before. Here's a quick rundown that I'll fill out later: (connection/loyalty)
• Catch up on my soaps! I mean... trids in general, the soaps aren't all I watch. It's for my day job, you know? I've got to keep up on the latest trends so I know the best way to market my work. I really couldn't care less if Sonji's sister wakes up from the coma in time to break the spell on her fiance who's about to marry the spy from EVO. Nope, couldn't care less. • Cat taught me most of it and experience taught me the rest. • A moral limit? I don't know about that... maybe I'd call it more of an aesthetic limit. Some jobs are just ugly. They'll involve a lot of collateral damage and generally mean that someone's desperate. I dislike that sort of job and will rarely accept it no matter what the payoff. It usually means that the real plan has fallen through and someone's resorting to using the wrong tool for the job- a bunch of armed freelancers- when a properly placed bribe would do the job much better. The highly compartmentalized nature of 'shadowruns' (if you insist on calling it that) means that you usually won't know why you're doing what you're doing, so it's usually impossible to object on moral grounds unless the means to your unknown end are particularly unsavory. I suppose my 'moral' objections are just the usual sort, the things that make us human... genocide, kids, friends, that sort of thing. • Hmmph. You don't get it. Cat chose me, I didn't choose her. • Ordinary culture? There's no such thing for most people. I mean, it's nice if you can get it- corporate media paints this picture of hitching your wagon to one of the big 10 and being set for life, but that's only for the best of the best or the well-connected... maybe 300 million people out of the teeming billions? The rest of us get by with whatever trickles down. • Crashing, especially during a race. I mean, it's never happened but sometimes I have these dreams where me and Sarge will be cruising along, feeling like we're on the top of the world, when something just goes wrong. We crash and burn and I always wake up in a cold sweat... it probably doesn't mean anything, but just the idea that something could go wrong when everything's going perfect and I'm at the top of my game, I don't know how to explain it but it's a damn scary dream. • Sarge, obviously. We've been through a lot together, and I don't know where I'd be without my bike. I've shed my blood, sweat, and tears and he's spilled his oil and hydraulic fluid and electrolyte, and in the end we've always come out of it together and survived to ride again. • Huh. I haven't thought about that in a while. I guess when I was a kid, the first thing I ever wanted to be was a florist. I don't know if you've ever seen the Tokyosprawl, but down in the lower levels there's no real sunlight. They pipe in fake stuff for the landscaping, and in a few of the better neighborhoods people would set up gardens. The first time I saw a flower in person I thought it was the most beautiful thing in the world and started reading up on greenhouses and hydroponics and all that stuff- maybe that's why I hit it off so well with Jess? Huh. Now days I mostly do the things Cat taught me. I take care of the people who have no place in decent society, and race for fun. It'd be nice if I could top-out the leagues and become a household name- but right now I really couldn't say what I'd do with a million nuyen purse. • Neko's on the scrawny side, for an ork. He's pretty sure this is because of all the childhood illnesses, but his (relatively) small stature hasn't really bothered him... he thinks other shape as at least as much his 'real' body as the ork. While he is experienced at taking several forms, Neko most frequently changes into a very large panther for his hunts. ((physical description will be expanded on later)) • Well, “Kenta” would hardly do for a street name, and while “Mr. Takahashi” has a certain ring to it there are very few people who know me by that name any more. Ever since Neko-sama taught me her ways I've taken up the name as her Shaman... nowadays I could hardly imagine being called anything else.
Male Ork Shaman
@Feliks: No objection. My original set of contacts doesn't work well outside of the Tokyo sprawl, so I'll come up with a whole new set for Vegas. I'm thinking of well-connected awakened types for the most part, with a street level group contact. I'm running into a bit of writer's block on some parts of the questionnaire but I should have it up in the next few hours.
Male Ork Shaman
I'm working my way through the questionnaire. Until I learn more about the setting, would you mind if I just blocked off the 28 points for contacts instead of picking particulars? Most of the contacts I had written for Neko were specific to Tokyo, I imagine his relationships in Vegas will be very different.
Male Ork Shaman
Cool. I was hoping we'd get the chance to have more than one cat shaman in the party. You seem to have more of a mystic focus, while Neko is much more "hands on". His MO is to shapechange into a panther and eat people he doesn't like, vigilante style. It looks like he could learn a lot about illusions from Gh0st.
Male Ork Shaman
Quote: Is this how you want our dice expression to be show? For formatting, I usually use something like this: Neko attempts to play on his fame in the UCB leagues to convince the bouncer that his name was supposed to be on the VIP list. Con@Bouncer: Con(4)+Charisma(4) = 8d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 4, 1, 5, 5, 4) = 26 = 2 successes
Lt. Evans could be interesting. Phineus has the crazy-high Charisma but with Evans you could dump a lot of those points into contacts. I could easily see spending 40 points or more on contacts with a character with an ex-lonestar detective, and the detailed knowledge of police procedure cold be nice for keeping us out of trouble.
@James Martin: Take a look at Neko's character sheet under the 'Character Background & Notes' section, I think he has a fair bit in common with the character you're proposing- although he's more the sword than the shield. If you decide to go with that concept we can probably work out a preexisting relationship...
I had a shadowrun game recently die off, featuring a character in one of Tokyo's underground combat biker leagues. He was built on 300BP but I can tweak him to fit the new campaign and upgrade to 400 BP, if you're happy with the concept. It's all in the character profile... let me know what you think!
Male Ork Shaman
I found the Matrix overlay for the area near Tokyo Tower. I'm sure this will be a great boon to our planning ;)
Male Ork Shaman
So... is this dead? Pacing can be an issue in Sahdowrun, even at tabletop games. Often there will be two or three sessions of legwork before there is any action, and I suppose that could stretch to months over a PbP so we might have to make some adaptations to speed things along. I'm really enjoying the concept of this game, is everyone else still interested in continuing?
Male Ork Shaman
Neko rolls up to Tokyo tower and goes to work, driving around it several times and recording everything while getting a feel for the area and any potentially interesting terrain features. The next step is to drive to the bridge and back several times to check out the different routes available and note all the little details that wouldn't be apparent from studying a map.
Male Ork Shaman
Sorry for dropping out of contact! I had a business trip pop up unexpectedly and had a much bigger effect on my PbP time than I thought it would. I'm back now and catching up; is everyone still interested in continuing this game? Regarding the favor from my agent, I had thought this would be a rating 3 favor (access to restricted facility) that wouldn't require a test (loyalty 3, connection 4). Here's my negotiation + charisma if the test is required: 7d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 4, 5, 1, 3) = 23 = 2 successes Looks like I'm just getting the introduction... Quote: Contacts will normally agree to personal assistance with a Favor rating equal to or less than their Loyalty rating. If the Favor rating exceeds the contact’s Loyalty rating, the character will need to convince the contact with a Negotiation + Charisma Opposed Test.
Male Ork Shaman
UCB Teams (street): 6d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 5, 3, 6) = 28 = 4 successes "Yeah, they're whiz." He acknowledges, somewhat dismissively. "I'm lookin' forward to racing them on the team circuit- that's right, you haven't heard! Let me introduce you to The Wrecking Crew, you know me an' D-Frag and this here's Kid and Slide. We'll be hitting the streets in just a few days... get ready for a hell of a show." Neko would chat for an hour or two before reminding the team to meet up at 10 tomorrow for their scouting run. Once he's alone he'd contact his agent to give him a heads-up about the race and the team. He also checks to see if his agent can make an introduction to someone in Renraku who could get us into the tower, as well as seeing if he has any information about which other teams have been invited. Do you want to RP the call with the agent? Will I need to make a favor roll (core book, pg 280)?
Male Ork Shaman
Neko looks the kid over as D-Frag sounds him out. If he's a legitimate fan... well, you don't go around terrorizing the fans. If he seems alright Neko will stop messing with Leo and offer him a few pointers and just enjoy chatting about UCB. "Bah, SINless! You should always have something to show The Man. Even a cheap fake ID to keep the security drones happy..." If it seems like he was just trying to change the topic to distract us or ingratiate himself to us though... "Yeah, that's us. Now the camera, it catches my good side- you don't wanna see my bad side. I'm gonna ask you again; what are you good for besides ghoul bait?"
Male Ork Shaman
Neko lets a smile stretch across his face at D-Frag's suggestion and rubs his chin and tusk idly while he pretends to think it over. 'Course, we all gotta make a living... but it has been a while since I went fishin' for ghouls..." He finally makes up his mind, "Lets give the kid a chance to tell his side of it." He turns his glare on the kid, "What's your name? Let's see some ID. So, {name}, what're you good for besides bait?" Neko makes a cursory check to see if it's a fake ID but doesn't sweat it too much. If the kid indicates any proclivity for thievery or violence, Neko brings up UCB and eventually leads the conversation toward a little job to support their next race. UCB has a bit of a tradition of counting coup on opponents by grabbing their bikes; he offers better-than-chopshop prices if he can bring them a bike from the competition. Otherwise he strings out his bit of fun until it gets dull then sends him on his way, 'giving him a headstart' before they come looking for him and turn him into ghoul bait. After a little while the drones fly back under the table. Neko hands the spell over to his sustaining focus in case he has occasion to bring them out again, but they're mostly forgotten about. Keep in mind, the kid has a moderate chance of recognizing Neko and/or D-Frag from the fame trait. It might be interesting to see his reaction if he realizes whose pocket he was in...

A small swarm of microdrones zip out from under the table and begin circling the pickpocket while his hand is still in Neko's pocket. The guns on the drones are quite small and probably only hold a single shot each... but they are all pointed at his face. Neko slams his drink down on the table with an emphatic thump, "Oi! What's this now? You seem to have upset my PAN's security system, chummer. Better not make any sudden moves, those tiny drone brains don't have room for the high-end autosofts and they can be a little twitchy once they have a target lock. Cost me a bloody arm and a leg to clean up the mess last time. Maybe you should take your hand out of my pocket and have a seat, and we can talk about this little misunderstanding..." The drones continue humming above his head, just out of reach. Spellcasting + Magic, Trid Phantasm spell (force 1): 5d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 5, 3) = 21 = 3 successes

So, I imagine most of these landmarks being preserved in a 'scenic' sort of way and featured throughout the architecture of the levels. The actual bridge, for instance, might be a rusted hulk spanning a river of sludge on the ground floor. Each level though would have some sort of tribute to it in the local architecture or recreate it in the area's AR overlay. Same for the towers, they would just be built up ever-higher with new high tech construction techniques and have new entrances and exits grafted on... is that about right?

"Oh yeah, there almost always is. Barricades get you in too much trouble with the authorities; there'll probably be the usual commuter and drone traffic. That's another thing to check for though... it wouldn't surprise me if they scheduled the race during some sort of parade or other big event. Lets do a bit of research and see if anything shows up."
