I will probably be getting this. I would love to see an NPC codex 2 that has stats for the classes not in VOlume 1.

What counts as a cure spell?
Does it have to have "cure" in the name or just "cure" in the description?
Would http://dndtools.pw/spells/spell-compendium--86/close-wounds--3542/ count as a cure?

This thread is a little over 6 months old, I apologize if this would be considered a necro but this page is the top result when searching for this subject.

After about an hour of sifting through the rules of combat flow and this feat, it boils down to this.

The following applies to a surprise round where only the slayer can act, IE the group does not initiate the surprise round.

all initiatives need to be rolled
Any one who rolls higher then the Slayer can not move or attack during the surprise round. They can not hold or delay their action in this case because they are caught surprised and the Slayer has not acted yet, allowing them to react
Slayer uses his standard action in the surprise round. Thats his turn in the surprise round.
Any one after the vanguard, who is next to an ally within 30 feet, can take either a move, or a standard action, but not both. (clarification - if allies need to be next to someone with lookout to use it and the vanguard spreads it out over 30 feet, then technically they don't need to be adjacent to the vanguard, just someone else).
Go in combat order down the list. Once thats over, then a normal round begins.

If the group does initiate the surprise round, every one who rolled higher then the slayer can hold/delay their action until the slayer takes his action of using lookout. Then instead of a move or a standard action, those that are adjacent to an ally with the lookout feat can now do both a standard and a move action.

http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2t2hm?newish-DM-Question-on-dealing-with-a-play er

We gamed last night, there wasnt any combat. There was however RP. The game got off rather slow. When it was time for free play after a remind of what happened last time the problem player (OR) went to his phone to continue playing on his vault. There were other players not doing anything, one of them talking off subject, but he was the only one actively diverting his attention from the game.

The group went into a laboratory where some people were being experimented on. I had set it up so there were 9 tables, each with their own NPC being examined. One of those was another players mom who has been held prisoner for 15+ years. The group does the normal 3 people talking at once and I try to sort it out. DR (the player whose mom is held prisoner), spends time looking for a ladle to fish out stuff from the vat. When he goes near his mom who he hasnt seen in years, she starts screaming "demon, trickery" and getting agitated. None of the others NPCs did this. This character is half black half elf so he stands out. The player ignores the NPC. His spot check was low for the ladle he was looking for and moves on. OR goes around and stands next to 4 yellow markers and asks if he can cure these people. I tell him to roll individually and say.

4 Yellow: They are full of pussy lessions and seem psychotic, they are far to infected to kill.
2 red: Their eyes are red and blood shot, they are ravaged. Their muscle mass is greater then it should be
2 green: Their eyes are dripping with a green ichor, as is their nose and their ears, burning them. You feel like you cant save them.
1 blue: As you approach this one she shouts at you "Demon, trickery" She is not lucid and more psychotic then the the yellow ones.

So I gave him 2 clear "no you couldn't save them" and didnt answer on the other two. Later a 3rd player decided to put them out of their misery. I asked several times if he was sure, he said yes all 4 or 5 times. At that point i let the group know that he just killed DRs mom and OR got upset saying if he could have saved her, he would. I told him I never specifically said he couldn't save her, he made the call. "but with my 30 knowledge roll I would have known. Even if my characters done some evil stuff you dont get to decide what my character does, thats my job." (side note - when he was DMing he was deciding what PCs were doing.) He was actually upset, I could tell.

I stopped him with "I spent all day between tasks looking up the rules on how to handle advanced mental illnesses. Not all of them can be cured with heal or remove disease but I will go over it between now and next week. If I find something to change what happened, we can retcon it. For now this stays." And as I said that DR rolled a search check to see if he found another ladle or even a container to put some liquid in.

My thoughts on it were that even if he is a healer, he doesnt have knowledge for every type of illness or disease and how to treat them.

I talked with the groups more experienced DM and he said my only mistake was telling them what happened right away. No one was paying attention correctly, you gave them several chances to reconsider, and you gave clear answers about two of the colors which should have qued them in that maybe they could have saved the other two some how. You even made it a different color piece then every other one as well.

I talked to DR about it afterwards since it was his mom. He pointed out that people are there to have fun (true) and not a disappointing experience. He also said he never planned on his parents to be alive (backstory issue). We agreed that his mom would stay dead at that point.

Aside from that one incident everything else went well that night.

I have a player thats playing a superstitious barbarian.

Superstition (Ex)
Benefit: The barbarian gains a +2 morale bonus on saving throws made to resist spells, supernatural abilities, and spell-like abilities. This bonus increases by +1 for every 4 levels the barbarian has attained. While raging, the barbarian cannot be a willing target of any spell and must make saving throws to resist all spells, even those cast by allies.

So if a hex is classified as a SU or SP, the barbarian would have to roll to see if she falls under the effect of fortune?

Cackle (Su)
Effect: A witch can cackle madly as a move action. Any creature that is within 30 feet that is under the effects of an agony hex, charm hex, evil eye hex, fortune hex, or misfortune hex caused by the witch has the duration of that hex extended by 1 round.

A cackle is a supernatural ability thats extending the duration of a hex. Would the barbarian have to roll to see if shes affected by the cackles extended duration as its a "new" or "ongoing" effect?

Wow! These are all some great responses and more then I thought I would get!

Kicking the player out - The best I can do is "its my ball Im going home." I dont host the group, another player does. The other player has been friends with the M/M player for many years. He even stated that hes in the same boat some times and he was the DM who made the call to end the last campaign. I can take away the campaign but once its done then we start the hosts new campaign and lose 3 players from the group.

Mini fights - with 5 players, combat can take a while to get through the list. Half of the players wait until its there turn before even considering what they would do, which means finding the right spell for the situation.

I dont want to go through with takeing it out on the other player in game, its what I feel like doing, its a conflict. I know that I would have to throw enough things in there to kill other players as well, then the party goes into res mode (Id have to say yay or nay to finding gems), reroll, or quits. The sad thing is the two characters I would most likely kill while going after this one wont be with the group after this campaign, but one of them is my best friend.

Wolfgang Rolf is right - its creating a tug of war with the other players. The two ways I see to fight back against a rules lawyer are 1. Know the rules better. 2. "Im the DM I say so" which sounds childish, but it might have to be the route I take.

Apocalyptic Dream - As far as RP goes, he seems to have dropped off on what he wants. He started as a neutral good and through torture went slowly to chaotic evil. He was debating why he should at least be neutral even after I warned him in game and out of game hes going down that path. Once he hit evil it was about the time that he started spending more time on his phone then on the board.

-I am checking with the other players now to see how they feel about the game in general

-I will do what I can to get a copy of every ones character sheet.

I am asking all of the players how the feel about the game and player interaction right now to get a feel of how the group sees things. I will talk to the player when it comes up again, hopefully something good will come of it.

I have a min/max player who also happens to be the rules lawyer when it benefits him or when it can put a wrench in my plans as a DM. The group had to end one campaign because he min/maxed so much as a wizard the other DM couldn't throw anything at him that would be a challenge for him, that wouldn't kill the other players.

Likewise for me, Ive had to throw extra things at my players just to counter him. Hes playing an oracle and can channel negative and positive energy. He "didn't see" the part where it said he has to channel one as if he were two levels lower and could only exclude a set amount of targets for a while. At one point it was just me throwing waves of guys at him that almost killed one party member, twice in one fight, he even argued that his channel wave wouldn't have a visual component because it was divine. I had to tell him no because then it wouldn't be balanced and that a blast of energy should have some visual hence it being a blast.

That was several months ago. Ive been trying to patiently work around things but it just seems the more im on my guard, the more he pushes back. Last night was kind of my tipping point. I had our more experienced DM make up the stats for a monster and even he agreed I should have downed at least two people but the Min/Maxer kept countering what I was saying and arguing. The main thing being that I had a druid use wild shape to shift into an elemental. The player kept insisting that the druid would get all of the stats of the huge elemental and not retain his own, and that went for armor. The main point about this is I missed several attack rolls by 1, when the stats I had down plus the elemental body/wild shape change would have allowed for a +6 to the druids str, both getting the hits, breaking free of binds, and dealing more damage to another player. That other player was able to deal enough damage after my "missed rolls" that took out the boss of the night and his assistant. Later I re-read wild shape and polymorph effects and it said something to the affect of gear and stats "are up to the DMs discretion of what actually changes and what doesn't"

So now I feel that Im back to balancing all of my fights around this one player, both on the board and meta wise. I even feel like I need to kills his character, over and over again for the 8 or so sessions we have left. The other players all play for the story and occasionally "the lulz". This one plays to show off how much time he can spend reading up on the utmost powerful builds.

AM I wrong for wanting to kill this player? If not how can I counter and shut an oracle down for good? If I am wrong, how can I fix it? hes already been told that thanks to he min/maxing one campaign was ended early and that hes making it difficult to DM. Every one knows this is my first time DMing for a "successful" campaign.
