The Exchange

Play a witch, the class allows for never making d20 rolls outside of skill checks and saving throws.

I guess it's important not to get too bogged down in the details - I don't see how a familiar could teach me a new spell with a verbal component when we can't communicate but I suppose stuff like that can just be handwaved. Also, I liked the idea of following the patron's whims or being assigned tasks that the character doesn't understand but further the patron's goals in some way, so I was hoping for some kind of communication.

There doesn't seem to be anything in the book outlining how the patron communicates with the witch. I originally assumed that it was through the familiar, but the familiar isn't capable of verbal communication until level 5. For now my GM has ruled that the patron communicates through the familiar, who passes on the info to me in a non verbal form(not telepathy), such as pointing to something, leading me somewhere or guiding me through emotion with the empathic link. Is there any official explanation on the nature of the communication?
