I am prepping for a first game with this campaign trail. Just ordered book 3 and 4 last night. I was wondering though if there's any leeway with how much the players can't know. Like if they just don't remember the past 7 years or so then that's fine. Though if the entire backstory is just blank it makes it a little harder for me to hint at past things for their role play.

If there's signifigant spoilers of terrible things the PCs might have done that was wiped away please PM me.

Is there any way to do this without going through the painful raising your primary attribute and not using the highest level spell slot you have? It seems rediculous to ever fight monsters in the latter levels such as devils who normally have monk-like progression and also slap on some spell resistance to boot for which there are.

I understand that normally you just try to identify the monster's weakness in DC but sometimes it just doesnt seem possible when fighting something like an ice devil. Will is the only thing even targetable an its still almost impossibly hard to affect.

Ater initiating a pin by maintaining the grapple, on the following turns can you continue to attack after maintaining the now pin or must you continue to use the pin action.

I was pinned by a monster today and since it had a pretty decent CMD I couldn't break it for the longest time and even when I did he just redid it. To be specific it was a cloaker using engulf to pin.

The monk also does a lot of pinning and punching people while they can't do anything about it.

To be specific it was a cloaker using engulf, and I know there were plenty of problems with that altogether since I was told that I was pinned from the very first roll that beat my CMD. Alot of messed up calls were made that night though like I shouldn't suffocate from it too.

I believe I've actually discovered the answer to my own question and making unarmed attacks will actually make all my current primary attacks now secondary which is no good I suppose. Drats.
(p.182 of Core, right collumn, final paragraph for those that want to reference.)

Now I get to wait for Ultimate Magic/combat to see what new tools I might be able to use.

At first I thought that writing a journal wouldn't be for me but I decided to after reading the last couple excellent journals. This has been the first game that I've ever truely DM'd for a good length of time rather than just short 1 time adventures. My friends and I are just out of our teens and are starting to grow up more and we all really like roleplaying. My gf being the best roleplayer though its her first rpg ever.

I decided to get the first AP since it sounded like the most fun from other people's experience. Though I hadn't converted anything to PF till about half way in.

Party consists of:

Torqa, CG Female Half orc Barbarian, ran by my gf
Orik, LG Dwarf Phalanx Fighter(I was shocked that he chose this since the fighter at nualia's place was named the same)
Galen, Human Rogue
Taklu, Elven Oracle of Life who was haunted by fey spirits.

At the Swallowtail festival the PCs arrived. Orik was hired by the church to help out set up the festival a few nights before the rest of the party arrived. Galen and Taklu were both partying adventurers hired to safeguard a merchant on his way to Sandpoint from Magnimar. Torqa lived off in the wilderness near by but had heard commotion much more often than she was used to so she planned to visit the village shortly.

Though all were offered the chance to play little games for prizes no one actually wanted to oddly enough. Orik just wanted to explore the town during his time off and watch the sea. He saw a few goblins down in the trash dumb picking up metal and running off but didn't think much of it. Galen tried to hit it off with every woman he met. Torqa went through a punch out with someone that "didn't like 'er kind". She beat him down and gained some respect within the Fatman's patrons. Taklu sat in the rusty dragon eating.

Eventually the guards and Orik gathered up everyone to go to the swallowtail festival and the goblins attacked.

The fun points of the combat were
- A goblin caved his own skull in trying to head butt the dwarf who he blocked against his tower shield(nat 1)
-Goblins jumping off buildings firing arrows only to injure their legs on the fall
-Torqa ran atop the buildings that she could and made an expert acrobatic leap and strike at the Ranger and killed him in a single strike (2 20s)
-Orik just dancing into the combat every time since I could only hit him with a natural 20 winning Aldern's praise for the next point

After meeting Aldern he asked them to meet him at the Rusty dragon, but they told him that they would rather wait till the morn. He accepted and then I gave them a little down time to introduce themselves and cheer about turning the raid.

Galen finally found someone to try to court. The shopkeeper's daughter took a liking to him after his new status was gained. When she brought him back to her place her father interrupted them before anything happened but he crouched behind the stock without knocking anything over. The daughter had been taken away but he left her a note and they met at the Rusty Dragon.

Many people tried to convince taklu to become part of the play that was being practiced for until they heard during his audition he had a terrible case of forgetting lines. (He couldn't memorize one)Thus he was swiftly thanked and booted from the play.

Orik and Torqa met with Foxglove early and talked with him and Ameiko about their previous encounters. Torqa kept mispronouncing Foxglove. It was something explicit that made an elderly woman leave for.

The next day we fast fowarded through the boar hunt since no one at all was interested and we just had lots of time for Aldern to talk to everyone. Everyone was suspicious about him except Orik who had decided that he wanted to take Aldern as a companion with the leadership feat. (I love dramatic irony)

When they had returned Ameiko was missing when they wanted to talk to her, her maid had given them the news and they had gone after her because it sounded fishy for whatever reason. (paranoid bunch aren't they)

They had come into the place through a side entrance and circled the fight zone to come in from where the downstairs was. Though they didn't know there was a downstairs. They found Tsuto and the goblins which they swiftly slew though the oracle was almost coup de grace by Tsuto's stunning fist. Orik dived on him and wrestled him down to keep him from it and they demanded to know where Ameiko was. After he kind of explained himself, Orik decided that people like him shouldn't exist and slew him. They then rescued Ameiko and decided to not go down the broken corridor of bricks and forgot about it completely.

Next post I'll talk about the Thistletop. We're currently right before the fight of Nualia, two members had exited the party and reinforcements that Belor Hemlock brought back to them. Details of that will be in the next post.

If one is wearing these, would it count for him to being armed rather than unarmed thus taking away the need to get the improved unarmed feat.

I've been running one of the Adventure paths for a few days now and Shatter keeps reappearing, and though my PCs have yet to come across any of the people that have the spells I have a feeling that they are about to.

Regarding Held items do the items get a save against the shatter? Also are magical items harder in any way to shatter? If not I think my next wizard should just pile on these spells and just turn every fighter into paste.
