About Morgan Ironskin

Appearance:

Morgan appears, to most intents and purposes, to be an unusually attractive (to the point that it is somewhat unsettling) female orc. She is tall, muscular, she has long tusks which jut from her cheeks, and she has the trademark s%+~-eating grin which civilized orcs typically wear. She wears a sleeveless shirt made from the hide of some mountain beast, a pair of simple pants, a tank top, and sandals, and carries what appears to be a huge bone pickaxe and an atlatl, both simply made from primitive materials.

She has a few physical signs that she is something different than a normal orc, however. Although some orcs are known to have grey skin, Morgan's skin is slate grey, the color of iron, and can shimmer in certain lights. In addition, she appears to have clawed hands and mismatched eyes - one black, one red. It's clear that she possesses some monstrous heritage, though is lucky enough that it hasn't manifested itself particularly strongly.

Backstory:
Morgan was born to a small, isolated orc tribe in the abandoned Ustalavic county of Virlych called the Boneshakers. Virlych is a haunted land only fit for the strongest and toughest of all peoples, which is what attracted the Boneshakers there. A lack of human invaders, a beautifully-thematic blasted horror landscape combined with the challenge of living there gave the Boneshakers an intense pride in their domestic success. To survive, this tribe cultivates hard-scrabble crops, hunts and eats the aberrations which haunt the countryside (and take great pride in their spice blends to make the flesh palatable) and frequently have to fight off undead abominations wandering up into the mountains from Gallowspire. In addition, the tribe has made something of an alliance with a local coven of hags. Finding the hags more personable than the orcs had been led to believe hags generally are, the two groups depend on one another for many things. The hags use the orcs for company, as defense, and to collect things which are too time-consuming for a handful of wo men to collect. The orcs use the hags for their potent spellcasting ability, divinations of the future, and for their savage strength. Occasionally, when one of the hags dies to adventurers, or there is a disagreement among the coven, or some other loss of a hag, one of them will come down from their mountain peak refuge to claim a mate for breeding purposes.

Morgan's birth was heralded by such a visit, when Evizze, the powerful annis hag member of the coven descended to replace one of her sisters.

The way changeling births work in the orc tribe is that, since the changelings themselves are such big bargaining chips, they are given lives in the laps of luxury while they mature. If and when the Call comes, they are transported up to the hags to be transformed. If it doesn't (which happens when a changeling's blood never activates or when the hags find an alternate replacement) then the tribe gets to keep an extra-clever new member.

Morgan was never told about her future fate in detail, only that she occupied a place of great honor and privilege, and she was given the best of everything. She trained under the best veteran raiders. She was given the biggest helping of food at family gatherings. Everyone treated her with respect. Because of that, the surprise when she was trussed up like a pig and carried up the mountain as a teenager was nearly overwhelming. She was delivered whole, and her friends and family never looked back. However, panic set in as the hags began their ritual. The first step was a "steeping" of sorts in a foul concoction, but after the hags had gone to sleep, Morgan slipped free of her bonds and made her escape, fleeing Ustalav, fleeing her tribe, and fleeing all that she knew.

Months on the road, being rejected by one superstitious Ustalavic town after another found her in southern Numeria. Though being so far away from everything she knew scared her, it also excited her. Finally, she finds herself able to live the life that she always wanted. She can just fight and drink and boast like any orc is born to.... if anyone would actually give her work or even the time of day. She continued to travel through Numeria, passing through Castle Urion and making the trek across the plains to Torch.

Perhaps she can find work here, at last. Something to fight, someone to bed, and money to be made.
