Can you tell us anything more about the problems that arose? Did this scarecrow arsonist arrive before or after the sheriff and his new taxes? Anyone else we should speak with regarding this matter?"

Morgabir steps a bit back and keeps a wary eye, then looks in the general direction the farmer indicated.

"Abandoned, you say? Because of the scarecrow, the new taxes, or before all that?"

"Very odd. Do you know anything about this scarecrow person? Were any threats made, or attempts to extort you beforehand?"

Once everyone is sated (and takes a few leftovers to eat along the way), Morgabir leads the party towards the burned out barn they were told of.

Morgabir heads to the provided quarters and gets ready for sleep.

Once the group is together and alone: "This guy seems okay, but we should still keep watch. For practice if nothing else. I'll take first, unless someone else wants it."

"So the local lord is a baddie, the sheriff is in his pocket, his men are mercs loyal to coin, and there's a firebug running around setting folks' home alight. I say we start with the arsonist, so we don't get ambushed in a burning building going forward. So, where do we start? Who's house got torched last?"

"Hmmm...the sheriff did seem overly eager to take our friend in for a misunderstanding. Almost wanted to see him swing for it, too. Well, if the baddie has the law on his side, it would certainly make it easier for him, no?"

Morgabir makes a show of keeping his hands out and away from his body, stepping back to allow Finn to speak up.

"I doubt that sheriff was our bard. Word was that fellow was ancient, and the sheriff didn't have many more years than the rest of us, I reckon. If we want to camp out, I'm sure we'll be okay, but maybe talking to this bard character will get us a bed in out of the weather?"

"Sound investigation, there. Seems there's an arsonist roundabouts, as well. Local law enforcement calls him the Scarecrow, possibly on account of him dressing as one. Possibly just because they're superstitious, as well. Who can say."

"I agree about the windmill, but we need to tread carefully. If these mercs are good at their job, we could be in for a serious fight, and if this arsonist is connected, well, I don't wanna end up in a burning building any more than the rest of you I bet. We're down Daren, for the time being at least, and who knows where Virid has run off to, so keep a careful eye out."

On the way to the windmill, Mor pokes his head into the jail to see the place and snort a laugh towards Daren, then continues to the windmill with the othera.

"Oh, ho, ho. That's a rich one, Sheriff. This lad ain't no friend to me, that's for sure. He ain't a foe, neither, and he don't deserve to swing, but calling him a friend is just plain wrong. Maybe we can help with this fire starter, eh?"

Morgabir wipes tears out of his eyes as he walks with the lawmen, chuckling quietly about Daren being a friend.

"See, Sheriff? He ain't gonna cause more grief, now put your bolts down. Nobody's gonna swing for this, and you know it. Toss his poncey but in the pokey, and then we can talk about this arson guy, what'd you call him, Scarecrow?"

Morgabir sheaths his blade and guffaws loudly as he sees Daren appear in the doorway.

"What did you do now?"

Morgabir doesn't really LIKE Daren, and getting him locked up for B&E & assault would at least give us an in with the local authorities.

We could always bust him outta jail before they hang him, anyways. A night in the pokey might do him some good, even.

Morgabir holds his action for the moment, looking towards the more talky members of the group. He does not sheathe his sword, though.

"Okay, then, let's have you out. No sense hiding in a home if you're gonna burn it down."

"Oh, what is going on over there? Seems like some kind of ruckus down the street. That's not our hundred year old bard, right?"

Morgabir begins to walk towards the commotion calmly.

"Shepton? He a local fighter type? What's his problem, injured, old, ill? He seems like someone we should speak with as well, at least to get a tactical estimation of these mercenaries."

I'm still around, just had a few very busy baby-centered days.

"So, this new tax guy sets up shop and immediately begins extorting the townsfolk, eh? 10 gold seems like a lot for this town, unless it was more prosperous than it is, before he showed up. "

Morgabir follows Finn into the building, hand on the pommel of his blade.

He takes up a position near the door and tries to look casually intimidating.

"Yeah, sounds fine. One of you take the 'lead' as a talker, and I'll be your bodyguard. Sound good?"

"I suppose we should probably meet this man, then. If there's no inn, I bet there's no tavern, either. So much for a respite from the road."

Morgabir defers to the others, acting the part of a road weary guard.

Along the walk towards the village, Morgabir is uncharacteristically quiet. He scans the tree line and constantly checks his weapons, the weight of 'command' and the responsibility of the mission heavy on his mind.

"I can head into town, maybe with another or two, ask around? Anyone good with talking and the nobility stuff, maybe you check with this kid and we meet up at an inn."

To the kid: "Hey kid, this place got a good inn, somewhere I can get some hot food and cold ale?"

"That's what I was thinking; a towns a town, right? Once you've seen one group of soft living merchants and craftsmen, you've seen em all. We'll just have to adapt when we get there."

"Yeah, it's probably best if we enter the town as separate groups. Either that, or play it up as travelers just sticking together for road safety, rather than a squad on a mission. We're more likely to get on the locals' good side if they don't see us as an organized threat. "

"Nope, never had much use for coin or taxes or townsfolk in general. This is all new to me, which is why I figured our talkers and nobles in the crew would be of best use. Maybe we can show up as the "guardsmen" to take custody of the coin? Although that seems a little too overt. Maybe just normal folks passing through, adventurers or travelers or what."

"You got it, boss. I plan on letting our talkers do the investigating, and us more rustic folks can provide the backup. Just in case it's needed, of course. Any info on the man in question? Habits, peraonality, wife, lover, whatever you know could help us out."

Once back with the squad, Morgabir lays out their task.

"Subtle is the name of the game. We have to find out evidence before we can do anything, and any strongarm tactics or really aggressive actions are gonna block back on us in a bad way. I dunno if we can trick this fellow somehow, seduce him or blackmail him or what, but if we can keep b it quiet and get the swiped gold back, well come out looking like heroes. On the downlow, but heroes still."

"Fair enough. I'll be back shortly."

Morgabir heads out find Markam, eager to get the mission started.

"Hoy, Markam, we heard that there's a mission involving some taxes coming up light? Maybe a certain collector skimming or such? Our squad is ready to roll, whenever you say the word."

I have my "My Campaigns" page bookmarked, so that makes it a bit easier.

TBH, i hadn't noticed the change at first, but the mobile experience leaves a bit to be desired.

"Well, team, what do you all think? Scout in the woods, maybe get some info on Daren's chum? Investigate a dirty tax collector? Or check on some nighttime raiding taking place, with a direct request for assistance?"

Morgabir looks over their group, thinking about their strengths and weaknesses.

"I think we can perform any of them, but the one in town seems like our strongest play. Between Daren, Finn, and Virid, we have lots of talking skills, and being in a town might not be so bad for a short while."

One night, as the team is getting ready to bed down, Morgabir tries to gather everyone in the tent and speaks quietly.

"I know none of us really asked for this, and it's not exactly what we'd want to be doing, but I am really pleased our crew has been put together like it has. You all have your own strengths and skills, and if we continue to work together and look after one another, I think we'll make it out of this whole mess just fine. I'll be keeping an eye out, if anyone needs help or has a problem, I'm more than willing to help. Just say the word, all right?"

Without belaboring the point, Morgabir makes ready for bed and lays down quietly.

well, boards just ate my update to profile, will fix that later on.

took a regular longbow & arrows, will have the reward weapon be my new falcata. also took a bunch of environmental gear (like cold weather gear and skis) with the intention of leaving them at camp when and if we go out to adventure.

at least, until I can get my hands on a horse, of course.

GM: Is a ranged weapon in the cards? If so, composite longbow +3 strength, please. If not, falcata it is.

Morgabir takes the month's training seriously, striving to get himself into peak physical shape. He also practices his stalking and outdoors skills, and bones up on his marksmanship.

As far as being "squad leader", he takes that less seriously. He listens to the higher ups and follows their instructions, trying to help everyone fit in and make sure they all stay out of trouble. Other than that, he doesn't really give orders or ibstructions, but tries to lead by example as music as possible.
