"But slaves require expenditures- housing, food, water, hopefully clothing and medicine! Skeletons don't have that problem- they'll keep working until they break down, won't cost you any upkeep, and are virtually incapable of disobedience! If they don't care if slavery is evil... maybe they'll care if it's not cost-effective?"
