Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Hi, Everyone!
First off, apologies for leaving anyone in the lurch by my weeks-long absence. Unfortunately, it’s my turn for that “real life” stuff to get in the way of all my fun. *sigh*
Between the time spent on my studies and other commitments, I simply have neither the energy nor the wherewithal to carry on with role-playing. Sadly, this means that I have to take a hiatus from role-playing. A real shame, as it is one of my favorite pastimes. I sat down and had a good think about it, but this is for the best, as my studies have to come first.
Playing with everyone here has been a pleasure. I always enjoyed seeing how the stories we collaborated on in the RPG environment move along nicely. It has been a pleasure and an honor playing with everyone here. I wish I was able to continue, but it would be profoundly unfair to everyone else (players and GM) if I could only commit to a sporadic appearance at best.
As the Romans would say: “Valete!” (all of you be strong/be well/farewell)
--------------------
PS: @ GM_DBH free to bot Mishtes as you see fit until someone else can fill my shoes.
You have my condolences on the dodgy tooth problem. Been down that route a few months back. So I hope you're on the mend!
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
@ GM_DBH: did I take any damage from the fall?
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"Pah! Nasty business, this", Mishtes remarks.
"I'll check to see what's on the other side of that trap door", he adds as he starts climbing up the ladder.
Unless the trapdoor is locked, he will open and look out above...
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Mishtes will enter the nearest of the two rooms (can't tell which is which since they're blacked out on the V&G map).
He'll have his scimitar ready in his right hand (just in case) and open the first door with his left.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Mishtes, coming out of rage, will question the creatures about the nature of their works. Hoping they might some shed some light on what Vorkstag was up to, even if it's not much.
@ GM_DBH: how many rounds was Mishtes in rage for (3 or more)?
I didn't not it properly in my records.
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Mishtes, realizing the fight is out of Vorkstag, addresses the strange creatures working the vats.
"Right! Your nasty-piece-of-work of a boss is in our care now.
"We had no reason to fight you anyway.
"Any of you want to tell us what's been going on here?
"Vorkstag has been involved in some nasty stuff, that's all we know."
diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
hoping some of them can at least tell us where to find more evidence, both against Vorkstag and for helping the Beast.

Struth!
That means we might not see you for the rest of the year! :D
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Round ?
@ GM_DBH: Thanks for botting me again...
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Sorry for my absence; been busy wrapped up in all manner of real life stuff lately
And during the mean whilst; Merry Christmas, All!
Or, as Baldrick would say: "a Merry Messy Kweznuz"
(Blackadder's Christmas Carol, very, very, very loosely based on Dickens)
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Mishtes will try having another go at the door, using Lopper's Axe:
climb, dc 10, on the rope of climbing: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Condolences, Phaedra. Take your time on that one.
Sorry my own brief absence; classes are over now.
But I suddenly had a bunch of other appointments and stuff to deal with.
And having an annoying cold that lingers, a lot, doesn't help.
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
HANG ON! A light bulb just went on in this player's brain!
@ GM_DBH: does Mishtes still have that Rope of climbing we found in the prison not all that long ago?
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
@ GM_DBH: When it's Mishtes' turn, he'll have another go at climbing:
climb, dc 15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"Give us a moment, Cedric, we're working on it", says Mishtes as he takes the rope from Maria and tries climbing up again:
climb, dc15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 … Oh, heck!
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"Maria, our friend here just showed us another handy door", pointing to the door the humanoids pointed at just now.
Mishtes will try climbing up to that door.
climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
"Pha! Can't get a grip"
@ GM_DBH: I think I have Mishtes in the right spot for that new door.
If I'm reading the V&G outside map correctly...
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
@ GM_DBH: how high up is that door?
Is there handy ladder that just happens to be lying about, is there?
OR, could that cart in the courtyard be used to climb up to the door?
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Mishtes will address the four humanoids cowering in the corner:
"Alright, you lot. How do we get into that part of the building?"
he asks (in a rather threatening tone), pointing in the direction of E4.
intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Keeping a grip on his bardiche, trying to look menacing, Mishtes says:
"Never mind that! Where's your boss?"
intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 … it was worth a try
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Sorry for my absence; studies and other RL stuff have left me feeling about as bouncy as a deflated tire.
Thanks for botting me, GM_DBH!
"That was one tough hound!"
With the ghastly golem-dog was taken care of, Mishtes checks the door for any obvious traps or noises from the other side:
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 … * sigh *
"This door seems safe enough..."
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"I'll stay with to help Lazar, Gadren" Mishtes volunteers.
"Although smashing down that rude gnome's door would be a lot more satisfying" Mishtes thinks to himself...
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"I could try opening the door", Mishtes says, showing the others his bardiche might make a good door opener
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"Not a good start", Mishtes says to nobody in particular.
And he rings the bell this time. Vigorously.
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Level 5 STUFF
• HP: 6+2 (average + CON bonus)
• FCB Bonus: +1 Rage round/day
• Level 1 Spell: Shield
• Background Skills (+1 each): Craft (Weapons), Handle Animals
• Adventure Skills (+1 each): Intimidate, Knowledge (Arcana), Perception, Spellcraft, and Survival
• Feat: Arcane Strike
The Cunning Plan, of course, is to take Blooded Arcane Strike at level 7...
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"Finding Vorkstag quickly sounds like a good idea."
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13 ... I can aid with this one!
diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 ... But not these three!
diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Sounds nasty! Had a dislocated rib once (from boxing, mind).
So I know how painful that sort of thing can be.
Hope you're on the mend!
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
heal: 1d20 ⇒ 16 Worth a try...
Mishtes nods in a agreement.
He'll cut off the Manticor's head. Or help Maria with that chore.

Already 3/4's down thanks to damage done. It dies. So you didn't use a spell Gadren, or a round of rage Mishtes.
⋮
@ GM_DBH: got it; thanks!
"Well done, Maria! You're handy with that sword!
"That manticore may not have dug up these graves, but something disturbed them.
"I still think it's worth a look, with everything else happening."
Mishtes will resume his interrupted task at carefully digging one of the six sunken grave sites to see what might be underneath...
perception (if needed): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Round 2
Mishtes moves moves up to Gadren's pit, goes into a rage and tries lashing at the manticore with his bardiche:
bardiche: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
(critical: 19-20/x2, two-handed)
@ GM_DBH: I am hoping a 10 ft reach, thanks to the Long Arm spell, will be enough to hit the Manticore
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Round 2
Mishtes moves closer to Phaedra and takes another shot with his sling at the manticore:
sling (with shield): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
(shield in the off hand)
@ GM_DBH: Thanks for botting me last round; it's what I would've done
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
As the manticore approaches, Mishtes casts a spell on himself:
« langur armur » . . "long arm", in skald
To get +5 ft to his reach for 4 minutes
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"Looks like we found the remains of our False-Beast!
"Look at these six graves, they're empty!
"And sagging like someone, or something, dug up from below."
Mishtes will try digging into one of the empty graves to see if anything else is revealed.
He'll be careful about it, half expecting either a tunnel to fall into or something nasty to come out.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
@ GM_DBH: I'm assuming Mishtes would have brought one of his shovels he had on the party's cart.
If not, he'll make do with the recently discovered rusted shovel, and hope it's not rusted out beyond use.
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 … Nope!
Unable to identify what's in the vial he found, Mishtes asks "Does anyone else know what this stuff is?"
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Before nightfall, Mishtes will relate to the others what he thinks about golems:
"They told us that a caiman got the better of the beast, but that doesn't sound right at all.
"A flesh golem can easily kill animals like caimans by ripping them to pieces.
"So whoever, or whatever, they saw killed by that caiman couldn't be the Beast.
"Getting a bit stranger the more we look, isn't it?"
Later, at the boneyard:
Unless the local guides object, Mishtes will search the old boneyard for any recent signs of tracks or other disturbances (disturbed burial sites and the like).
He will carefully avoid disturbing anything, though.
survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
"I agree with Phaedra; maybe there was more than one.
"The beast we saw had no bite marks on him.
"Could you show is where the Caiman attacked the Beast?"
"There MIGHT be clues there," Mishtes whispers to Phaedra.
"Do you know how the victims died?" Mishtes asks Lazne.
"I think the Beast can only kill with brute force; which he has lots of!"
knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
@ GM_DBH:
Mishtes is trying to recall general information about golems.
Namely, are they prone to fear and/or are they a match for a caiman?
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
That's what more roughage is good for! :D
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"We also think there could still be a murderer here.
"An undead one, actually.
"So we need to find it and destroy it."
diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21 … wow!
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"And maybe if we find where the killings occurred, we might have some notion of where that wraith might be."
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Mishtes finally speaks up and asks the Beast some questions:
"Do you have a name? My name is Mishtes.
"Do you know how we can find the Ghost Man to kill him?
"Can you tell us how you got to Hergstag?
"Anything you tell us we can use to help you."
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Apologies for my absence, everyone. Got totally wrapped up in my studies (including three midterm tests), and a couple of fiddly computer problems.
I should be good to go now...
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Those are never any fun. Hope you recover soon, GM_DBH!
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"Talking to the beast itself would be a good start.
"And unusual too, since they normally mindless."
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
"I think I can guess, since there's a big pyre in town now."
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
"Golems are usually mindless, aren't they?
"Does seem odd that one speaks."
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Recovering from his brief fatigue, Mishtes will offer to carry Aleece's body back to her companions.
As well as helping bury the other spider's victims, time permitting.
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Sorry for my delay.
Had to go out of town for my Mum's birthday and a wake as well.
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Mishtes comes out of his rage, for now.
"Right. Let's find the girl and keep close together.
"That's our best chance against that thing."
That does mean two rounds of fatigue, but don't want to waste rage rounds until I know where it is.
But his extra reach per the Long Arm spell is still good for about four minutes.
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Mishtes moves slightly so he's between Lazar and the others.
He then casts a spell: « pitkä varsi » . . "long arm", in hallit
cast defensively (dc 17): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
This way Mishtes has the speed and reach help everyone else in the same turn.
Male Human Bloodrager (inactive)
Round 1
Mishtes will go into a rage and move directly toward the big spider.
He will then strike it with his bardiche:
bardiche: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
(critical: 19-20/x2, two-handed)
@ GM_DBH: That's a 5 ft diagonal, but it should be enough for the bardiche's reach ability methinks...
