So my friends and I are participating in our DM's new original campaign. I'm told there will be a lot of RPing and investigations. I am the rogue in the group and was planning on going sleepless detective at level 6 and for the following 9 levels. My rogue arch type is Knife-master and Scout. I will be using a dagger and, although I am not building my character to be a damage power house I will have some combat prowess. In combat I plan on mixing the ability to throw daggers and stab with them to apply my sneak attack while staying very mobile and evasive on the battlefield. My question to the Paizo messageboard community is: This campaign is going to go all the way from level 3 to level 20. My DM stated we will be locked at 20 once we hit it and will continue to adventure for a while. Ultimately he said a third of the campaign we will be level 20. (i guess we will have cohorts we level up once we hit 20? I dont know but that doesn't matter.) I am torn on my last 5 levels. I could add 5 more rogue levels and be a 10 rogue / 10 sleepless detective OR I could throw some fighter in, but I am afraid that will take from my usefulness outside of combat and kill my skill points. I am leaning towards going 5 levels into Shadow Dancer. It gets me some rogue talents which are cool, has alright skill points, and I get some cool tricks like: Hide in plain sight, dark vision, uncanny doge (which i gave up for scout arch type), shadow illusion, summon shadow, shadow call, and 40 ft of shadow jump. My character is a tiefling and will be able to cast darkness as a spell like ability once a day to start, but I found some items that will supplement that, allowing me to make it dark very often if it isnt already. This is amazing for hide in plain sight to help with sneak attack and being a sneaky bastard... Anyway, before I ramble anymore. I would love any suggestions? We are rolling for stats and havnt done so yet and I have not picked any feats so any suggestions would be great. I do plan on getting reactionary and river rat for traits but other than that have not picked anything.

So, this is a bit far fetched and kinda all over the map so its most likely a horrible idea... that said I wanted to ask some more seasoned members.

I am playing a campaign with some friends the the DM made up on his own. we are using the pathfinder rule set and it is a very heavy role playing campaign, lots of investigating and tracking down leads (so im told).

I am the rogue of the group and the prestige class "Sleepless detective" really caught my eye. I also love the idea behind "Arcane trickster".

I'm set on the Knife master rogue arc type to get the D8 sneak attack instead of the D6.

Anyway, I was thinking of dividing up my 20 levels to be a:
3 Rogue
1 Wizard (transmutation school)
8 sleepless detective
8 Arcane trickster
(i would take magical knack as one of my traits so my caster level would be 11)

I get a lot of cool stuff, but Maybe I'm spread way to thin? I have a feeling I am.

If this wouldnt work, thats totally fine I didnt think it would - is there any good way to make a rogue who throws daggers and maintains his sneak attack? Ive read lots of conflicting info about ranged sneak attack.

Thanks in advance
