I was looking to make a new character in a pathfinder campaign and I was led to the Spellscar Oracle. I thought, this is great! It reminds me a little of the warlock in 3.5 with the Eldritch bolt mystery. After reading it over I wasnt sure how to interpret the damage:

Eldritch Bolt (Su): You can damage foes with a bolt of raw magical energy. Make a ranged touch attack against any foe within 30 feet. On a hit, you deal 1d8 points of force damage, +1 point of damage per two oracle levels. At 10th level, the bolt’s range increases to 60 feet. You may use this revelation a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.

So, is it the same as the warlock in 3.5 where the damage dice progresses as you level up? So in this case level 4 oracle = 2d8 +2, level 6 oracle + 3d8 + 3 damage? Or is it simply lvl 4 oracle = 1d8 +2 damage, lvl 6 oracle + 1d8 + 3 damage? I'm thinking if it is the former then that is pretty darn rocking!

Thanks for the help guys. I have to say, I do like the Oath of Vengeance paladin archetype. having those extra smites at one's disposal seems wicked! I dont mind giving up the channel energy for the extra smites all that much but I will take some time to think about it. As for the Eldritch heritage, maybe I am not seeing the potential but I think I will hold off on it this time around. Thanks all for your help again fellas. You've given me some great insights on paladins :D

Hi there all. I am new to pathfinder but have played 3.5 before. It is my first time playing so I went with the class I felt most comfortable with, Paladin. I noticed off the hop there are several marked differences between paladins in 3.5 and pathfinder. Have reconciled the differences, I've come up with a build I am comfortable with. I think I am going to orient him to a one shot wonder type character with some healing back up (no healer in the party so I get that role by default). For stats I am heavy on Charisma and Con, not bad strength and everything else is meh. Feats with be power attack, furious focus, extra lay on hands, radiant charge, vital strike, that sort of build.

After I got my build set-up in my head I started looking to see what items there are for such a build. Maybe I havent researched enough or because of my experience with 3.5 is much greater than with pathfinder but when I started looking at magic items available to paladins in pathfinder, I wasnt too terribly impressed and couldnt find as many paladin oriented magic items as there are in 3.5 The bracelet of silver smite, headband of alluring charisma, boots of speed look good but I couldnt find much else that was really spot on for complementing the character I am making. Could anyone give some advice on what other items are good for such paladin characters?

Also, I didnt find any sort of healing belt item in the pathfinder books (core, advanced, ultimate magic, fighter). Is there such an item in pathfinder?

Thanks for the clarification all!

I recently started playing pathfinder and myself and one other member in my party chose to make Half-Elf characters. They said that with the Half-Elf favoured class ability it is possible to choose the same class twice (if you decide not to multiclass) so every level you can choose between 2 hp, 1 hp and 1 skill point, 2 skill points or in the case of a special racial or class ability (eg summoner 1/4 evo point up), one could take that twice. This seems somewhat strong to me but is possible to do this?
