Hey Jason Bulmahn Managing Editor of Dragon You could make your life a lot easier by using Wizards own Feat Index or their Spell Index. Both Indexes are updated when new books come out. Spells from Spell Compendium have already been added to the index so, updates are put out really quick. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/feats http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/spells ![]()
Most DMs and even most D20 Monster books have problems with CR. How about an article on how to calculate CR and EL? Grim Tales has a computer program to calculate CR but, it really doesn't show you how its done it just gives you the answer. The fact that so many books get CR wrong and the fact that there are at least 2 computer programs to calculate CR should tell you there is a need for a good article on the subject. TIA ![]()
I really like Demonomicon as well as the article on Kobolds and their god in 332. I would like to see articles on the gods of some commonly used monsters like goblins and kobolds. In 2E there was a book called Monster Mythology but, it was mostly about Avatars not the gods themselves. I think its about time someone wrote up a background as well as Domains for these Monster Gods. In 332 Mat Smith did a great job on Kobolds as well as the rivalry between Kurtulmak and Garl maybe you could ask him to do something else about the kobold god Kurtulmak? ![]()
I think they need to make the articles bigger even if that means not every class appears in each issue. I also would love to see something like the Class Combos articles. Dragon had character builds showing what classes, PrC and feats to take and why they were important. There are tons of PrCs and it would be nice to know an easy way to get into them and if its really worth doing. Look at the Character Optimization Board on Wizard's site there are tons of people ask for advice on getting into PrC or just how to create a different type of character. It would be easy to check out what most people are looking for then post a build in Dragon. Anyway it couldn't hurt to check the Character Optimization Board for cool character builds. ![]()
I liked Demonomicon Fraz-urb'luu. Under Fraz-urb'luu Minions you talk about Corrupted Rakshasas known as the Hollow Rajah and how they are CE, no longer look like Rakshasas and have different animal themes. When we get to monsters however you give us the Skurchut, why? Where are the Hollow Rajah you talk about in the article? What was the reason for choosing a monster never mention in the article instead of the Hollow Rajah ? ![]()
Calidore_Chase First Watch is about Previews and News yet yourself seem to agree its ads. "Sometimes ads can be a good thing, if they advertise in Dragon I am more than willing to go and check out their site" So, tell me is what you read in First Watch a Preview or News or as I said its an ad? As for "Nursery Rhymes" and kids books I don't know many adults who buy or read books which have the listed age of 9-12? Even if you do like nursery rhymes should this really be in an area for Previews and News? ![]()
Erik You want to talk about decline in quality take a look at First Watch its a huge waste of space. In Dragon 331 its starts on page 16 and the next article doesn't start till page 22. First Watch is little more than ads and most of the stuff has little to do with D&D. Take a look at First Watch in 331 and tell what age range these things are aimed at and do they have anything to do with D&D Twisted Fairytales Models "scare your friends with Miss Muffet's spider" do you really think toy spiders are going to scare adults? Midnight Magic Music CD
What does the Dragon Say, kid's books about the paranormal. Do I really need to say anything? Pop goes Manga
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy the movie. Now was this movie even out when the article was written, if not how could Dale have seen it? If he has not seen the movie how could he recommend? I can understand RPG stuff being reviewed or even novels but, SciFi movies, toys and kids books? Come on this is a waste of space. ![]()
How about an article in Class Acts about Druid spells that don't work in dungeon like Call Lightning or Entangle. A list of such spells would be a great help to both DMs and Players. Please think about more Class Acts article that would work as Reference cards. Things like what Wizard spells don't have a Somatic Component or what spells non-clerics can cast to restore or raise HP like False Life or Vampiric Touch. Your articles have nice ideas but, are not very useful. Having a Reference card like article could be a great time saver and would have long term vaule to every DM and Player. ![]()
Why don't most of the polearm have pics? You put a half page pic of a monk blocking arrows with a polearm yet, your picture chart of polearms only has pics for less then half the polearms? I can understand not showing the polearm from the PHB but, what about the rest of them? Any idea if there are pics for the other polearms in some WotC book; if so what books? ![]()
James Jacobs wrote: I'm 98% likely to write up an in-character journal of the campaign, mostly so I can keep track of what's going on and so we'll have a recap of the previous week's game to remind us where we were. If there's interest, I can post the journal to the messageboards here for everyone to check out. I would love to read your journal of the campaign. Please post it :) ![]()
In Class Acts how about giving us some strange but, cool Multiclass Combos? Wizard's has set up a whole message board for Character Optimization. This should tell you people want to know how to build better characters through Multiclassing. Instead of creating new classes how about tips on when to multiclass and why. With a few good feats and few levels in Rogue and Ranger you could make a great Sniper, you just need to know how to do it. A simple chart showing Level, Class Level, BAB, Saves, Adverage HP and Class Abilities and Feats like you did in issue 310 would really show the advantages for each Build. Also try articles dealing with what Feats from the new Class or Race books would be the best choices each Core Class. You don't need to reprint any Feat in detail just talk about some of the best stuff from the new books. This will not only help players but, it will also improve Wizard's sales. ![]()
I know you can't reprint Domains but, what about just a list of FR gods and the Core Domains they should have. Books like Races of Stone, Complete Divine, Libris Mortis The Book of Undead and others have Domains but, no info on what FR get them. A list like this would be a great help in using Core Domains with FR gods. Thanks ![]()
In the past I complained about the pale blue/grey color used for answers in Sage Advice and Scale Mail. Well in Sage Advice you change the color to black for which I thank you My only problem is you use italic fonts which means the words are tilted. Since the questions are in bold letters there is no real need to use italic fonts to make the answers look different from the questions. Please use normal fonts because the last 3 issues have been a real pain to read. By the way I love Class Acts its my favorite part of the magazine. Maybe you could write an article on good spells combos for Clerics. Everyone still thinks of Clerics as Healer/Fighters yet with the right choice of spells I'm sure a Cleric could be a deadly spellcaster. Anyway thanks again for fixing the color ![]()
In 325 like 324 you used a pale gray color for Sage Advice that is very hard to read. I complained about this before but, now your even using this pale color for replies to Scale Mail. The color seems to blend into the background making it hard to read. Last month you used a bright blue for Scale Mail which was not has good as a dark color but, was still better then the pale color your using now. Please use bright or dark colors because these pale colors you use make it very hard to read. Thanks ![]()
In Dragon 324 there is a full page cardboard ad between pages 34 and 35. Is there anyway to get this ad out of the magazine without tearing the book apart or leaving a piece of cardboard behind? If the people at Dragon are reading this please don't do anything like this again. A small unattached card is fine but, a full page attached to the spine of the magazine is very hard to remove without causing damage to the magazine. ![]()
Dragon 324 It seems like Dragon is goes back on their promise of 1 Prestige Class per issue. Optional Classes has the same problem as Prestige Classes. Dragon magazine does not have the staff or the time to playtest these classes so, they should limit it to 1 new classes per issue. Anyone else think Dragon should treat Optional Classes as Prestige Classes; 1 per issue? Also in Sage Advice for 324 the color of the answers has changed. The new pale purple color is hard on the eyes I wish Dragon would use a darker color. Last, I really liked the Class Acts for Sorcerers its a tough class to play and any advice helps. Also helping Sorcerers pick spells would be a nice follow-up article. |
