Max shakes himself free of soot and dust, and walks to where Hisao is standing.
"Probably a good idea. The longer we stay the higher the risk of activating more traps...or running into some nasty creatures that live down here."
Reaching out and placing a hand on Hisao's shoulder, he whispers a quiet prayer to Sarenrae as he focuses divine healing into the burnt and fatigued ninja.

Pressing his hand to his slightly scorched chest, Max back away from the flaming rune and casts Cure Light Wounds as he prays through gritted teeth.

Max decides to do what he can to assist the ninja in his attempt to disable the strange construct gate. Holding his holy symbol aloft, he concentrates and channels positive energy through the icon, filling the area with the light of his deity.

Max watches the group shuffle around with mixed feelings.
He liked finding a solution that was inside the letter of the law, but letting the practice of necromancy continue ate at him (even if alchemical rather than magical).
Watching the interaction with Svilennius and his dead lover Esme put him at ease however, as he put the pieces together (heh) and was able then to see how such a noble cause could make a monster out of any man. Such was the way of things, sadly.

Watching Hisao as he attempts to somehow "disable" the door/undead amalgamation, an idea suddenly pops into his head.
"Hisao, what about simply using this wand of Control Undead and telling the door to open?"

Looking over at Maeron with a troubled look on his face, Max says in hushed tones "I am genuinely sad for the loss of both Tenderstump and poor Zarzuket, but this man was not responsible for the actions of those insect swarms. Murdering him will only lead you down a dark path."
To the rest he says "This is a tough situation, but we can use whatever rewards Svilennius gives us to make reparations to the priesthood for his body snatching. As much as I dislike the undead personally the law is on his side. I can defend myself, but I wont kill him just to make myself feel better."

Max walks up to the door and takes a moment to compose himself, thinking of how to approach the situation.
"Alright, be ready for anything."
Pushing open the door and entering the room, Max makes sure to leave enough room for the others in the party to see what is happening (and enough space to sneak past).
Making sure his weapons are put away he calls out to the disheveled man at the work bench, keeping his hands in plain sight in a non hostile manner.
"Excuse me? I am sorry to interrupt your work, but I must ask you to listen to me. I represent a group that was asked to find out what was going on with all the missing bodies from the tombs. I don't think I need to tell you what thins means: The priesthood know about you. Despite your best efforts to remain hidden, despite your sentries that you have posted, your presence has not gone unnoticed. You must understand that while you may only see the remains as parts and ingredients the priesthood see what you're doing as desecration of the final resting place of their ancestors.
Don't worry though, all the priesthood want is for the theft of the bodies to stop. If you stop stealing the remains of their dead for your experiments, then they wont care about you anymore and you will be able to leave peacefully. If, however, you continue in your ways then we will be forced to try to stop you. And even if we fail, there will be more adventurers like us to follow and you will be forced out eventually. Will you stop your theft of the bodies and leave peacefully?"

Hopefully I have gotten though to this man, and if not then hopefully I have delayed him for long enough for the others to get into a good position to attack.

Nodding along Max raises his hand in a halting motion.
"All we have to do is halt the thefts of the bodies. Let me try to talk to this madman to leave...but see if you can get into a position for your ambush if and when he refuses to see reason.
He hasn't directly attacked us himself after all, he has only left guardians to defend his area from other dangers. I must give him a chance to leave peacefully before condemning him to death."

Max watches the ninja slink off, quickly losing sight of him. The only clue he has to the stealthy figures whereabouts are the periodic glimpses of muffled light from the glowing pebble.
Max shoots a smile to Maeron as if to say get a load of that guy, before repeating his trick with another small rock, keeping it at hand for when it is called all clear...or they need to rush to help the ninja out of a tight spot.

Max picks up a small rock, and calls upon the power of the divine to infuse it with light, then proceeds to silently show Hisao that the rock is small enough to palm so he can hide the light if needed.
With a nod he gives the rock to Hisao, then retreats to a safer distance and check to make sure his crossbow is ready for action.

He Once again places his hand on the ninja and focuses for a moment before casting another healing spell.

I am perfectly fine with following the directions that the mysterious voice has given us. If nobody objects to Max taking the cloak than he will wear it, once he takes the time to remove the religious symbolism.

Max looks around the room, taking in the eavy religious symbolism of the engravings and the artifacts.

"We should take these artifacts with us, recall that the Pharasmian clergy offered to purchase whatever we liberate from these depths."
He notices the fine vestments that are obviously magical, stored with some scrolls. Activating Detect Magic he gives them a more thorough investigation.
"Now these on the other hand are a different matter entirely..."

Yeah, we should run. I have a lit torch, I can try to cover those that cant move at full speed.

Max moves to get away from the biting insects. He makes his way westward, watching to see if any of the group fall behind. If any do he plans on covering them with his torch giving them time to make their getaway.
Hold action for now to see if anyone is chased by the bugs.
If we all get away clean then full move...if not then I will move to assist by moving and attacking with the torch before the bugs action.

at the very least the torch can be used to cover our escape. Max encountered a swarm in a previous adventure, only survived because he was pulled into sewer water. nasty things, swarms.

Max hears Cacumattus and digs into his pack for his flint and steel.
"If someone has a torch ready, I can light it!"
Max brandishes his torch lighting implements, ready to set spark to the first torch that gets to him.
1 action to get the flint and steel out and Hold Action until someone gets a torch to Max, then 1 action to light it.
Survival: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 to light a torch, I think thats the skill required?
