I ran a stealth based paladin who's first three levels were unchained rogue, with his level 1 class ability weapon finesse and level 3 finesse weapon(elven curve blade) he applied dexterity to both attack and damage. Wearing light armor from studded leather up to celestial armor his dex bonus made up the difference. After starting down the paladin line I focused on attack feats like power attack, cleave/greater cleave, and improved critical to maximize damage. Once I had the extra gold a pair of sniper goggles were added allowing my 2d6 sneak attack damage with a bow at max range using a frost composite longbow of distance and deliquescent gloves allowed me to drop enemies at 220 feet undetected.

figurine of the dwarven forge
Aura faint transmutation; CL 5th; Slot none; Price 15,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.

DESCRIPTION

These stone and steel figurines depicting a forge and anvil are warm to the touch and give off a faint red glow. On command, the figurine enlarges to become a full-sized working forge with a magical fire burning within. The forge occupies a 10-foot-by- 5-foot area, and its transformation fails if sufficient space is unavailable. A second command word returns the forge to its original, miniature size.

When a magic scroll containing a single spell is tossed into the forge, the scroll is consumed in flame. Thereafter, the forge and anvil provide that spell for the use of magic item creation in conjunction with Craft Magic Arms and Armor. This allows the crafter to use the stored spell as a prerequisite for multiple magic items. If a new scroll is consumed in the forge’s flame, it replaces the current spell. A spell remains available for use indefinitely until replaced.

In addition, once per day, if touched to a melee weapon made primarily of metal as a standard action, the figurine grants that weapon the igniting special ability for 1 minute.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

Feats Craft Wondrous Item; Spells flame blade, heat metal, shrink item; Cost 7,500 gp

its a bit expensive but the ability to forge magical items and weapons without being a caster is epic.

They don't both need to be bound, why not just happen to have a second weapon that happens to be intelligent. Then it could be whatever you want it to be and your black blade could hate it seeing it as inferior. You could even make it a shield if you wanted.

I have a paladin with catch off guard who uses a Sledgehammer as him main weapon. For 51 gold you get a master work weapon that you treat as an Earth breaker. Pair this with the surprise weapon bonus trait and you have a +3 Earth breaker at first level at next to nothing for cost.
