Ok. Thanks.

Oh you bet I am! I am here to stay.

So, what happens now? We have lost 3 people so far. The last person to post in the gameplay thread was myself last Sunday. Has all interest been lost? If so, let's make a determination if we want to continue or end the game.

Mathurin spots the gull and says: "Ah, the uncharted regions! This is what I live for."

He then looks about at the crew with an excited look and says:

"Think of the tales we will take back to civilization. That and the treasures! Lands never before seen and cultures never before heard of. This is what we prepared for. Lets see this day out with a song. Pickles, give us a tune!"

The following day Mathurin reports to Grask to prepare to sail.

"Captain. I have made any preparations that I need and am ready to make sail. At your command."

When Grask acknowledges him he will make his way to the poop deck and wait for departure time.

So, is there anything else to do here? Been a while since anyone posted.
Lets get some fun things happening for everyone to participate in! :)

Status:

I have nothing else to get here.

Last Will:
I, Mathurin Kerbouchard, being of sound mind do take up the pen to write my last will and testament. In the event of my death I leave all my worldly possessions to my mother who lives in Cassomir in the admiral's fen district.

Status:

Mathurin goes to the tavern for a good meal and some ale. After eating, he will get a decent room for the night.

Status:

I just love the advanced race guide. Lots of goodies to play with!

Status:

If I am reading this right, Lucille is dropping out of the campaign? I really liked her. :( She will be missed.

If needed, I can alternate between the roles of lookout and navigator. Gjurn could navigate while I am up in the crows nest since he and I have the best profession: sailor skill. I have some really good bonuses to perception while in my favored terrain (water).

Status:

Looking about at the ocean and the sky, Mathurin tries to see what the weather will bring for the next few days so as to be prepared for anything unusual.

Survival to predict weather. Taking 20+17=37

Mathurin has a swab take the wheel and steps forward.

"Captain, I have found that he is quite arrogant and his attitude has been one of offering assistance where it generally isn't needed. My problem is that he doesn't keep within his role like others do. If additional help is needed it will be asked for, or be readily apparent.

Also, it diminishes the skills of the captain and the rest of the crew when he takes it upon himself to supervise everything. We each have been delegated a position and need to be allowed to act in it without interference."

"In his defense I will point out that he is very knowledgeable. It was his assistance that got us back on schedule to Last Point. We shouldn't take his experience lightly."

"I do agree though that the lash won't solve this. Perhaps assign him a duty that he would normally consider beneath himself?"

Time: Day 7, morning.

Mathurin strolls out on to the deck.

"Ahhh, what a beautiful day!"

After taking a look around to see if anything is out of the ordinary he will take the wheel and make sure we are on course.

Perception 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26

Profession: Sailor 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19

Hmm, a lone albatross. Probably waiting to see if there are any scraps he can pick up."

Status:

Time: Day 6, dinner.

Mathurin enjoys his extra ration of ale.

"Well, that was a bit of a chase today. Not much for keeping up with us though. We should keep an eye out for them as we may encounter them again.

"If I may Captain, what is your intended action for Mr. Swurn?"

Status:

Mathurn is busy studying the ship behind us and doesn't hear Gjurn.

I am going with the presumption that I am getting just one aid another from Gjurn.

Profession: Sailor 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35

Profession: Sailor 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26

Profession: Sailor 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37

Status:

GM, before I make any rolls I need to know who I can accept the aid another from. I have to factor all the bonuses.

Status:

Mathurin continues to steer the ship and keep her on course.

Profession: Sailor 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17

As Mathurin watches the waves and the weather he notices something out on the horizon.

Perception 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31

"Captain! A moment please."

Once Grask comes over:

"I have noticed what seems to be sails behind us. We may have a ship following the Paradiso. It is there if you look closely enough."

Mathurin will point out the exact spot that the ship appears on the horizon.

Status:

Mathurin will keep a sharp lookout for anything unusual.

Perception 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (15) + 17 = 32

Time: Day 5, dinner

"Why Mr de Arcadia, all voyages are potentially fatal. The sea is something I have had in me as long as I can remember. There is nothing else like the feel of the wheel in your hands as you keep the ship on course. Feeling the current move the ship, the wind gather in the sails and the men at their posts. I know there is risk, but the benefits outweigh that in my estimation. I wouldn't trade this for the world."

"How about you? Why did you come on such a voyage?"

Time: Day 6, mid morning

Mathurin makes some course changes using his sextant.

Profession: Sailor 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28

"There! That should get us back to where we need to be."

When Grask comes making his rounds Mathurin will inform him of the changes.

"Captain, from the time Mr. Swurn and I spent studying the maps, I believe I can make up the lost time. I have made the new course corrections and we should be on schedule from here on out. Other than this, nothing new to report."

Status:

"Also, may I suggest that we keep Ms Bluth, the Captain, and myself on an endure elements potion so we have a lookout, the captain, and the navigator available at all times. We cannot afford to have anything happen to the ship.

Being on a potion, and coupled with my extensive knowledge on the effects of heat, I would be free from the heat to assist others in staying cool. It doesn't take much for a swab to hold the wheel. I would keep an eye on our course and speed throughout the day. This would leave the doctor to take care of those who came down to him and me to take care of those above decks.

I like Mr de Arcadia's idea. I think I could easily alter any number of barrels with several holes to allow anyone who was getting too hot to step under and cool off.

Does anyone else have any other ideas for us to consider?"

Status:

When it becomes apparent that the day will be hot, Mathurin has a swab take the wheel and goes to find Grask.

"Captain, I believe I can help assist the crew with the heat. I have dealt with cases with this many times before and am able to help with this.

With the Doctor's help we can use the linens Mr Markley suggested, the water that Mr de Arcadia can make for keeping them wet, and the potions the Doctor has and will make and we should be ok.

If anyone is in critical condition and needs to cool off quickly we can use the really cold linens.

Also, we will need smaller shifts and rotate more often to keep heat exhaustion down. Even with plenty of water we still need to limit how long we are above deck."

Let me know of any survival rolls I need to make.

Status:

With our new course plotted, Mathurin will return to the wheel and turn the ship to the new heading.

Status:

"Aye Captain. GJurn, I have the charts in my quarters."

Mathurin turns and calls out: "Swab! Take the wheel."

He heads to his quarters taking GJurn with him.

Mathurin will pour over the charts with GJurn. He will discuss with GJurn the finer points in getting a better course to speed up the journey.

Profession: Sailor 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18

GJurn, I am aiding you for a +2

Status:

"Another day on the great expanse. I didn't imply that panic should be the order of the day. I implied that when something happens you won't need to be told because you stayed informed. Though you might look good in a skirt." Mathurin says with a snicker.

apologies for the lack of posting. Was enjoying my memorial day weekend up north with family and fellow veterans.

Lets say that Gjurn locked himself in his cabin on the first night, and spent the last few days meditating and transcribing spells into his spellbook.a simple Hold Portal spell kept his door closed from unwanted guests.

Stretching and yawning, Gjurn appears on deck before the sunrise, and wanders about, checking things over with an experienced eye. Hmm very nice. Appears to be no damage. Kind of amazed the young pup has kept us afloat this whole time.

He meanders his way up to the wheel of the ship, seeing Mathurin guiding the ship. Stopping, Gjurn asks Hmmm...don't you ever sleep?

"Every night. I love being at the wheel so I am out here as much as I can. Just a thought, you might try being on deck more. Can't know what's happening if you are locked away in your room all the time."

With that, Mathurin will take his sextant out and check his course.

Profession: Sailor 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29

Mathurin also keeps an eye out for anything unusual.

Perception 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28

"Aye Captain."

Mathurin makes a course correction using the sextant. The new course will take the Paradiso around the flying creature and the storm.

Profession: Sailor 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30

Time: Day 3.

Mathurin continues to steer the ship and using his sextant tries to keep the Paradiso on course.

Profession: Sailor. 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28

Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31

Mathurin keeps an eye on the winged creature. If it gets too close he will say something.

Mathurin brings the Paradiso around to gather the school of fish.

Profession: Sailor. 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Time: Day 2, about 3ish.

Mathurin calls out:
"Swab! Take the wheel. I shall be back presently.

Mathurin goes to see the doctor. He knocks as he enters.

"Dr. I am here for a checkup. All is calm on deck so I decided to come down. Figured I have had enough time to get an impression of how the ship sails. Feels good to be at the wheel again. Anyways, shall we proceed?"

Having done this many times before on others, Mathurin assists with the physical while telling of any details that Doctors like to make note of.

Time: Noon of Day Two

"Bring in the main sail. Mr Markley bring the Paradiso around to follow the school. Mr Aubaigne and Mr Videls you will assist Mr Markley by manning the foresail. The rest of you bring out the fishing lines."

Delmar will supervise for a little to make sure everyone knows what they are doing. Then disappears into his cabin and returns with a spear. He then climbs down onto the water which he stands on as if it were solid ground. He waits patently for a fish come near the him at which point he lashes out the spear, sometimes hitting and sometimes missing.

After the fishing is finished Delmar supervises them storing them in the hold. He will stay down there for a while casting Purify food and drink on the stores.

Apologies, but I am the navigator. That comment should be addressed to me. Unless Elwood can somehow make the ship turn without the wheel I would need to do this. Not trying to be mean. Just trying to correct an error.

Time: Day 1, Dinner.

"In the event that someone purchased a signal horn, we can use that for signaling the crew. Just a thought."

Time: Day 2, Noon.

Mathurin nods when the Captain comes over.

"Captain. All is well."

While I realize that while I may not be in the crows nest, is there anything of interest that I notice? This is for anything on board and on the water.

Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 36

Status:

I know. Just having fun myself.

Mathurin continues the heading and tries to keep her on course.

Mathurin ignores the cat dragon.

GJurn "SALTY" Swurn wrote:

Upon hearing Graskkator talking about apprentices, Gjurn studies him for a long moment.
very well, i accept your apprenticeship, Graskkator. It the mark of a true man, no matter what breed, to step up and constantly seek out greater understanding and knowledge about their chosen profession from amongst their peers. Well done sir. I applaud you. I shall meet you tomorrow at noon for lunch and we shall begin to learn from each other, for no matter how much of an expert the master is, he can still learn something from his student. With that he holds up a cup of water, nods to Graskkator, and drinks from the cup.

Mathurin snorts and then chuckles at hearing this.

While we are at evening meal:

"Having an assistant would be most welcome. There will be times that I need to leave the wheel and will need someone to take over. Plus any other duties that may require my attention on or off the ship."

"Compliments to Pickles on the food."

Status:

When Grask comes by the wheel and asks his question Mathurin will reply:

"Everything is in order, Captain. No problems."

Status:

Mathurin will be at the wheel on this fine day. Using his sextant he will keep the ship on course.

Profession: Sailor1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25

I gather there is a crew member standing near me at all times in case I need to leave or let go of the wheel?

Status:

As the crew makes final preparations to sail, Mathurin comes above deck and makes his way over to Grask. He now has on his cutlass, dagger, sextant, and a waterproof bag.

"Captain, I have poured over the maps and am ready to sail. At your command."

When Grask acknowledges his statement, he then makes his way over to and strolls about the poop deck till it is time to sail.

Mathurin mulls over the list. "The trade items will certainly give us a means of bargaining with merchants when we put into different ports. As for the ale, definitely want to keep the crew's spirits up and no better way than to relax with music while they drink and/or some games."

After fully reviewing the list he says:

"Very good Captain. We should be able to do much with these."

"With your leave, I shall be in my quarters going over the maps. I want to be as much prepared as possible before we put out to sea."

Mathurin waits till Grask acknowledges his request and will head to his quarters once he receives it.

He nods to Delmar and Lucille as he passes them.

Status:

Mathurin heads over to the poop deck and gets a feel for the ship's wheel.

He looks pleased at the craftsmanship.

After a few minutes, he moves over to the railing and looks out into the bay.

Are there any ships coming or going from the harbor?

As much as I loath to do it, (and he is well rounded I think) I have to alter Mathurin one more time. I use hero lab and I just realized that when I first made him I added an additional feat for the previous game. I just now caught this. I think that I will drop the feat Athletic. My apologies. I was not trying to make a character that was unfair. This is now fixed.
