Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Thank you for running us this far. It has been extremely fun. I will wait patiently for your work schedule to become more conducive to our gaming addiction.

Again thank you, and I will be waiting to hear from you again.

Walter is from Brevoy which is to the north of here. I think I know who you meant though and it was not me.

It was my poor attempt at a joke. Trying to liven the conversation since Seamus' departure. I miss the little guy. Hope he is okay.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

In a whisper, "Yergie, Walt, can you make out any of the notices?" Mathieu waits to see if they find anything interesting, then he walks over to the sleeping man and gently nudges him awake. Mathieu waits for him to awaken and then begins, "Excuse me sir. But are you in charge of hiring? We are but a small security company, looking for work. Especially if you can find us something to the north. We are looking to hire on as security and to provide a lucky merchant with the comfort of knowing that they and theirs are safe for the travel."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"If we got time, lets head over to the hiring shack. If nothing else, we can find out some information for tomorrow." Mathieu begins walking toward the hiring shack.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Short term: bed the northerner! ;) jk

No Really,
Short Term: Find a good bed for the night and try to gather information on bandit activity and anything that might be useful for taking care of the issues to the north. If I remember right, that is the path we had decided.

Medium Term: Find a way to get to where we need to be and make money at the same time.

Long Term: Defeat the bandits and save the people from a winter of hardship, famine, and death. Save the people!

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu looks scornfully at Quillin, "Why would it be asking a lot for someone to hire us?" Then yelling to no one in particular, "We are strong and well armed. We have defeated bandits and rescued a boy from their evil clutches." Calming back down, Mathieu adds, "Someone should be spreading the truth about us, and maybe we'd get hired faster."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"I still think we would learn more across the river. Stiff drinks won't get us bandits."

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"Well, I am getting thirsty. Maybe we should find a tavern for a drink and conversation before we cross the river." Mathieu begins asking around for the best tavern for drinks and conversation.

Diplomacy (Gather Info): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"Perhaps we would learn a little more if we were to gather some information in town? It would be to our best interest to find a rat we can squeak about the happenings to the north. Maybe someone who's tongue can be loosened with a little alcohol?"

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Maybe Seamus was a member of the Navy Seals team that stormed Abottobad? Just a thought.

Hopefully he comes back soon, I miss the little bugger. Who am I going to have those deep philosophical debates with now?

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu finishes his porridge and cream and has a cup of tea. He then gets up and leaves the inn thanking Akin for his hospitality and paying him on the way out. Mathieu then finds the graveyard that he looked for on his walk the previous night.

Settling into a position near a small grave of a short life, Mathieu places a candle on top of the headstone and lights it, then sits down at the foot of the grave and prepares to be in conversation with his god. Mathieu goes through his daily prayers asking Pharasma to bless him and guide him. Guaranteeing him safety, and knowledge of her will. He asks for spells to help him in his daily travels and for the safety of his new found friends. He finishes his prayers holding his mothers silver pendant high in front of him, asking Pharasma to guide her and his mentor through the afterlife.

Having finished his prayers, Mathieu retrieves his candle and heads back to the others. Upon seeing Quillin with a full purse Mathieu smiles, "Good to see you know well how to negotiate a good price for our hard fought for treasure. Thank you master Spellslinger for your work in selling the items." Mathieu takes the Wand from Quillin as he offers it. "I will try to use this wisely. Thank you."

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

So that's a wand of Cause Fear, CL 1? 47 charges?

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

I'm good to go. I can use the wand if you want, or we can sell it for more gold.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"We can stop where ever you want Yergie. As far as how long, I figured just quickly through town. I wanted to get a little knowledge of the lay of the town and just wanted to clear my head a little before going to bed. It's been a big day and I just wanted to mull over some things before retiring for the night." Mathieu leads his friends out the inn, and begins a circuit around town.

@ Zeta: I was thinking like a half hour to hour walk, then retiring to our rooms.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"Well Walter, I believe if you catch it before it hits the ground, you can throw it again." Mathieu finishes his meal and pushes his chair from the table. "I think I would like to go for a walk before settling in for the night. Anyone care to join me?"

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu partakes of the meal, careful to not overeat. He pours water into a mug and drinks, but does not sip from the mead or rye.

"Good meal, I suppose we should go over plans for the near future, and possibly the long haul? I believe our first priority is to sell the goods we have been so lucky to have gathered. After that we should figure out our first steps into the bandit territory to find out what the driving force is behind the attacks."

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu looks over at Quillin, "I couldn't tell you what they were talking about or what it was they were holding. Best I can tell, they were at least being honest with one another."

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"Should one of us go over and offer to help, Yergie?"

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Oh, I'm fine with the ruling. Just didn't know it would be looked down upon so much. Gives us a good reason for actually taking the metamagic feats.

Gonna make it a lot harder to make sure there isn't any poison in the food though. ;)

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu joins Yergie and Walter at the table, "Well met Akin, I'll have the dinner and a glass of water, thank you." Mathieu glances around the room taking in the scene. Mathieu says a prayer to Pharasma casting Detect Magic and scans the room.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"Not sure what you're gonna find out at an outpost Yergie, but I'll help you look for information." Mathieu follows along with Yergie and tries to add a question or two to what she has already asked, hoping to gather a little more information.

Diplomacy (Gather Info): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"Well Wesh, I suppose there is some local cult that thinks it has discovered a prophecy that will come true. It's most unlikely, but it could be dangerous if the general populous believes it to be true. Really dangerous. Perhaps we should ask the good Captain what information they did find out from this man. It may help us in our dealings with these brigands." Mathieu glances around the fort. "Did anyone see where the Captain went?"

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu tries to think back to any prophecies he has heard that may have to deal with the current events.

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"It appears to me that our choice has already been made. I don't know how long it will take to do each one of these tasks individually, but I think the order to do them has already been chosen." Mathieu glances at the Captain, "While the most lucrative job may be helping the good Captain's friend, it also appears the to be the one job that can wait." Mathieu turns his attention to the map still on the table. He points to the rivers to the south. "If we go after the missing ships, we may not be able to do anything about the brigands and bandits before harvest, and many people will die of starvation." Mathieu pauses, giving his words time to settle and strike the right nerves. Pointing to the north edge of the map, "As I said, it appears our course of action has already been chosen. Unless there is another group that can step up to the challenge and save these people? Fate has given us a crossroads, which path we take will make all the difference in the world. My vote is to travel north and find the answers to the brigand and bandit problem. Perhaps we can start by finding out what is underneath the cabin we found."

Mathieu waits patiently for everyone else to through their two copper pieces into the hat.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu follows the Northwoman. Adding a symbol of Pharasma behind his name.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

After grabbing one of the heavy crossbows and all the bolts, Mathieu follows Quillin, Walter and the rest of the group to the mess hall. Mathieu steps through the door as Smudge makes his remark. He shakes his head with a smile and continues to walk forward until he stands directly behind Quillin. "Hello Captain Vastalos. I am Mathieu Rordene, servant of the Lady of Graves." Mathieu bows his head slightly and continues, "Indeed, I believe we have come to accept the terms as written. It is our desire to both help where we can and be able to adventure freely in these lands without heavy restrictions or forced military conscription."

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"I'm good with the terms of the contract." If they are as Quillin reported and not as Seamus reported. Mathieu ponders for a moment, "What about "The Lady's Hand"? Thinking about my conversations Seamus. It could also have a double meaning. On one account we are the death dealers, those that end the lives of the wicked and ne'er-do-well's. On the other we are those who help the innocent and helpless. Providing life to those who are about to lose it." Mathieu shakes his head and shrugs his shoulders. "I guess I haven't put much thought into it. The Barley Wine Company has a certain ring to it as well. Well, that's all I got. I'll be fine with whatever is decided." Mathieu smiles and waits for the rest to make their decision.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"I'm sorry Quillin, but I haven't been much of a student when it comes to magic items and spellcasting. Perhaps you will need to teach me those things." Mathieu gets up from breakfast and heads out to help Walter and Seamus with the gear. Looking back over his shoulder..."When you get done with that book, perhaps you could find the time to help us with our newly acquired gear. We also need your gnome ingenuity to help us come up with a name for our newly formed adventuring group."

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

I will up date my profile after work when I have access to my stuff. I will be changing some spells around and adding a couple of new ones.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu awakes with the rising sun, having slept the night peacefully in a quiet corner of the yard. He quietly gets up and dresses. Mathieu than searches out the cemetery for this small fort.

After a few minutes of searching, Mathieu finally stumbles upon the cemetery. Mathieu kneels down in front of each grave and whispers a soft prayer to Pharasma asking that the departed be well cared for and judged properly for their eternal resting place. Mathieu then touches his pendant and then the grave at the end of each prayer.

After finishing prayers for each grave, Mathieu then moves to the middle of the cemetery and begins his own prayers to Pharasma. Prayers for her guidance and love. He asks her for strength, renews his dedication to her and prays for the power only she can give. To face death and know that it is not the end.

Finishing his prayers, Mathieu gently kisses his mother's silver pendant, gives thanks, and stands up. He looks around at the many graves with a sad smile on his face. The frontier is a deadly place to live.

Mathieu heads back to the mess hall, hoping for a warm breakfast.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu follows Yergie and the boy as the head into the mess hall. "Hey Quillin, where you been? Find the boys family?"

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

I'm with Yergie and the boy. I think we are heading toward the mess tent.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"Anyone see the boys uncle?"

Mathieu finds Yergie and the boy and helps them locate the boys uncle.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"I'm not very creative, so I'll leave the naming of our band in better hands. The boy however needs to be back with family." Mathieu glances at Quillin as he sniffs the air. "You got a whiff of what we need to get this boy back to family?"

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Feeling a little warm from the draught that the halfling had confiscated from the cabin, Mathieu had been quiet up till now. "Well met Captain. I am Mathieu Rordene, servant to the Lady of Graves. The parrot exaggerates, it wasn't three score. We left a couple for you to track down and capture to help meet your quota. And if you can't find a good woman to show you what to do on those cold winter nights, then you need this...Mathieu holds up Seamus' now near empty bottle...more than I do."

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu takes the bottle from Seamus, "To better days, Seamus." And takes a swig. With a shiver, Mathieu sets the bottle back down and pulls out the jar of pickled carrots. "Of course Quillin. There are a few left. But don't eat too much. I don't want to have to put together a recipe to take care of that problem." Mathieu smiles, opens the jar, and tosses one to Quillin. He takes one for himself and offers up another to anyone who wants it.

"Hopefully, Pharasma smiles on us today, and grants us a peaceful day of travel all the way to the fort." Mathieu says a short prayer to the Lady of Graves, asking for fate to clear their path before them, so they may have safe travels.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Is it one wagon or two? or more? I was under the impression that there was more than one, but I may be wrong.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu searches through the goods left in the basement and the kitchen for something sweet for the boy on the trip. He also fills his backpack as best he can with fresh foods for the road. Before finally climbing on a wagon, he adds a symbol of Pharasma to help indicate the seriousness of the plague.

"Well Quillin? Should we get going? There is an uncle that would like to see his nephew safe and sound." Mathieu pulls out the jar of pickled carrots. Offering one to Quillin, "Want one?" He says with a big grin on his face.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Though I can't speak for everyone else, I think we all agree. The boy should be our first priority. It's just that Zeta gets us off track all the time. ;)

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu will give Seamus a boost to peak inside the tunnel. "We definitely have gotten off track. Treasure will do that and the promise of more. I can add Pharasma's symbol to the sheet. It may help to scare others into staying away. Besides, as far as we know, that is why this tunnel is blocked."

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

We should take the boy back before we give Zeta more time to think of disasters on the way. ;)

Stuff on guns

Thanks for the info Zeta. Not sure how much you have read on Alkenstar, I'm assuming you have read most. Recent information that Paizo has put forth in the Inner Sea Guide talks about how guns and technology have evolved at Alknestar because it is in the Mana Wastes where there is no magic. It specifically states that a spellcaster can not cast spells while in the Mana Wastes.

My guess is that is why they have evolved technology at Alkenstar without the use of magic. But it would still make it extremely rare anywhere else in the world. Only those coming from Alkenstar would have the technology and you would probably have to go back to Alkenstar to get more gunpowder and bullets. Or at the very least only extremely large markets would you be able to find the materials. And it would be nigh improbable that someone not from Alkenstar would even be proficient with a gun.

Anyways, just my 2cp.

PS - I know for my Kingmaker group that I am DM'ing, I am not allowing guns. Like you said, it just isn't practical anywhere outside of Alkenstar and the surrounding area of Nex and Geb.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Glad to hear you are safe Seamus.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"I did not pray for a spell that would allow me to read the scrolls. Perhaps tomorrow. As for now, should we dig a little out of the wall and see what's buried? Or should we be on our way?"

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu cleans Quillin's wound. He then pulls out his silver pendant of Pharasma and while saying a prayer to the Lady of Graves, touches Quillin's wound with the pendant.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Mathieu quickly finds himself beside Quillin. He carefully removes the arrow and begins to wrap the wound. "Silly gnome, don't you know that is Seamus' job?" Glancing at the loot in the hidden room, Mathieu whistles, "Wow, you were right though. There is definitely a hidden stash here." Mathieu gives Quillin his best charm smile.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

"Dibs on the pickled carrots!" :)

"If we can wrangle it, I say we take some of these barrels with us. We can sell them for cash, or trade for other goods." Mathieu makes his way over to the wall. "I wonder why they filled it in and boarded it up?"

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

If you guys are headbent to burn this place down, I'm sure we can find plenty of accelerant in the kitchen. Mathieu follows Quillin and Seamus down the stairs. Alright, lets see what we can find and then lets get out of here. Mathieu begins searching the cellar.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric/1

Burn it down?!? I was considering keeping it as our own little outpost. But if you guys don't want to keep it. I guess burning it down would work. It would also be a good starter home for anyone who is trying to make a living in these wilds.
