Master Parisos nodded, drawing on his pipe.
At Kon-Tao's question he raised an eyebrow, also curious.

My vote is to fast forward past the duel, if it's not central to the plot.

I think that would be no problem for a Machinesmith whatsoever.

Well, He thought to himself, maybe I can bluff them...
Gritting his teeth, Master Parisos stepped forward until he was between the combatants.
He slammed is staff into the ground three times
"HERE YE, HERE YE! A DUEL HAS BEEN AGREED TO! THE WEAPONS WILL BE STUN BATONS!" He declaimed in a sonorous official voice.
He paused for a moment for sputtering outrage from one or both principles.
"BECAUSE LETHAL DUELS HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED UNTIL THE END OF THE PRESENT STATE OF EMERGENCY! BY THE WILL OF THE SENATE OF THE IMPERIAL ALLIANCE, IPSO FACTO, POX VOBISCUM, ET AL!" He said, throwing in a few words of the incredibly archaic Ancient Arman language.
He bowed formally and stepped back.

Parisos nods vigorously with relief.
"Kon-Tao's plan would be our best bet I think. I am not at all confident in my powers of persuasion."

Master Parisos hesitated, not being very facile with people or politics. He racked his brains for any historical examples that he might be able to apply to this situation.

"Ah, my lord, do we have the rank or authority to interfere?" Parisos asked nervously.
Politics made him wary, and for good reason.

Parisos bows.
"Yes your Lordship. Of course."

Master Parisos bows with relief.
"Of course your Lordship. If I might ask the question; how exactly does this Sir Otto stand in need of aid? What happened?" He asked curiously.

Waiting nervously outside, Parisos hopes against hope that Amon had managed to put his hands on the documents they had originally been sent to retrieve.

"Oh and no we are not thieves. And yes we do have the authority to be here."
Master Parisos pulls out his badge (a pin identifying him as a member of Croy's staff, bearing his family's crest along with the symbol of the Imperial Senate) and waives it in the stranger's general direction.

Parisos blinks at the newcomer.
"Oh. Terribly sorry for the intrusion. We were following a secret passage and it came out here. Have you seen anyone come out here in the last day or two?" Parisos asked politely.

Master Parisos entered the chamber after Broderick. He closed his eyes and concentrated on Detect Magic,

Master Parisos pitches in with the crowbar and puts his back into it.

Reaching out, Master Parisos pushes at it, then pulls at it trying to get it out of the way.

Cautiously, Parisos pokes at the wooden section of wall.
"Hm. I wonder if this is some kind of secret door..." He mused aloud.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

"Well, the central passage has the most slope. I think we should search it."

"Yes, yes of course you are right. The missing archivist. We must proceed to follow the traces we have to find him if we can. Amon Please check with the Archivist about our documents."
Parisos turns to follow Broderick.

Reminded of the missing aide, Master Parisos stops and waivers.

Parisos draws on his pipe and considers.
"You know, you may be right. I don't think we actually checked to see if the documents were present before coming back here. Let us go back and complete our mission first before perhaps continuing this investigation later."

Puffing on his pipe contentedly, Master Parisos wanders around the cavern, looking at the shape, color and structure of the place; its rock structures, stalactites, stalagmites, etc.

He goes to the three passages and places his most polished spherical sling stone at the entrances, checking for slope.

Master Parisos thoughtfully smoked as he examined the silver ring.
"Interesting. This insignia appears to be of the Order of the Scribes; a lay sect of the Order of the Kaga devoted to the collection and preservation of knowledge. As I recall, all of the archivists I have seen on the grounds are members of the order."
He looked around curiously.
"But where is the man who wore it?"
He looked around myopically.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
"It seems unlikely he would simply take it off and drop it."

Parisos looks around at the new cavern.
"Hmpf. This cavern is... oddly clean."
Noticing the ring, Parisos approaches and picks it up to examine more closely.
He also casts Detect Magic.
Do I recognize the heraldric device?
Knowledge:History: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Following Broderick, Parisos' face lit up red from the coals as he drew on his pipe.
"I feel the answers lay ahead of us." He answered, his face falling into darkness again as smoke trickled from his lips.

"Timbre, can you aid Kon-Tao? He does not look well." Asked Parisos thoughtfully, smoke trailing from his lips.

Once everyone is fit to proceed, Master Parisos will skirt the puddle and proceed down the passage.

Master Parisos expelled some pipesmoke in a ring that floated contentedly through the air.
"By all means. Do you think you will be able to continue?" He asked the large rock man with concern.

Parisos dropped the expended torch with disgust.
He relit his pipe with a gesture and drew in pipesmoke with some relief.
"Well then."
He looks back at his companions.
"Is everyone alright?"

I was waiting for others or the enemy to have a turn.
A common practice in PbP (especially in combat) is that if a character doesn't post in 1-2 days, you npc him for that round. If they take any damage, its nonlethal so they only fall unconscious.

So how many active players do we have right now? Do we need to recruit?

Parisos, torch now lit, steps forward and presses the torch to the creature.

Round 3_______

Retreating to the back of the party, Parisos glares at the enemy that had the temerity to be immune to his only offensive magic.
Thinking quickly, he mutters; "Let's see if he's immune to fire then...".
He drops his pack, draws a torch and waives a hand over it; casting Prestidigitation (the same as lighting a candle).
The torch starts smoldering...

Parisos stumbles back, choking.
"That's... not the way... to fight it... either."

Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Parisos grimaces. Suspecting it will be useless, he attacks anyway; his staff snapping overhead and down on the slime.

Quarterstaff attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 for a possible 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 bludgeoning damaging.

Parisos frowns as he carefully studies the... whatever it is. He waives a hand in a casual gesture as he casts a cantrip and lobs an Acid Splash at it.

Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 for a possible 1d3 ⇒ 1 points of acid damage.

Knowledge:Arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

When he notices, Parisos hits the brakes and tries to back up.
"Did you see that? That slime is moving!"

Parisos winced at the presence of the verminous infants. Despite the crime visited upon the records room (as close as it was to being a true Library), the Prymidian hated the thought of what would likely happen to them. Fortunately for his conscious, it would not be his decision.
"Yes, I do." He replied to Broderick shortly.
He turned and made his way past the others to the other passageway, and descended into darkness, trailing a cloud of fragrant pipe smoke.
