![]() Shawon finds Kang Dae. "Disturbing development. We went through some xenos device and arrived in a sector of space unknown to our navigation computers or our navigators. I believe Jubal Khan and the Harrowmaster from the Alpha legion will address the situation soon." You notice other battle brothers are beginning to go gather and walk towards the bridge. No official call for this has been given, but this seems the obvious next move for many on the ship. ![]()
![]() Apologies had some RL stuff go down
The Stormeagle is already for take off when you arrive and as soon as you step on board it takes flight. You look down and it appears that the metallic planetoid is shifting and changing shape. Once on board the Lance of Heaven emergency klaxons are sounding off. The ship lurches forward and it is as if it is being drawn to the planet. You look out an observation window and the planetoid is imploding on itself in the middle and creating a donut-like shape. Some sort of gateway is starting to reveal itself. You see a battlecruiser of the Alpha Legion fleet get sucked into the gateway. You brace for impact because you know, you will soon be next... You black out, or blink you are not sure. You see the other ships of the fleet floating in space outside the window. A musky brown planet is beneath you. No sign of any metallic planetoid or gateway is visible from your position. Gain 100 xp and 1 renown for that last mission ![]()
![]() You move ahead with caution. As you creep closer the energy you saw before begins to glow brighter. A section the size of a doorway lights up with strange runes. A xenos language to be sure. As that lights up, paths on the ground light up as well. The paths are the size of 10 lane highways on old terra and stretch for kilometers. You hear reports of such pathways lighting up from the other teams and strange patterns being made out from the aerial recon. There is an audible hum now and an energy around you. Your auspex and other instruments are starting to glitch and become unreadable. "All teams evacuate back to extraction points." The command comes from Jubal himself. ![]()
![]() There is no additional information from the auspex. This planetoid seems void of any atmosphere or bio signs. The antennae seems to sway a little as you observe it. You are about 50meters away from the structure at this point. Shawon: You still have this strange feeling something is trying to latch onto you, but nothing more. ![]()
![]() Shawon:
The antennae does not seem to be the source of the energy leech, but it does have psychic energy. There is a force deep within this planetoid that seems to be pulling at you. You approach the antennae. It is a massive structure, but compared to the vastness of all the other features around you on this metallic sphere it seems less so. You can feel warmth radiating from it. Approx. one hour has passed and teams are reporting in. Most of them are reporting similar situations. "Brother Tarkhan, report." you hear on internal vox. ![]()
![]() Brother Tarkhan stops and looks around and checks his auspex. The auspex has no readings. The antennae like object seems to have some kind of energy pulsing through it, but only the magnification of the magnoculars made it possible to discern that. To the east, south and west nothing but more metallic wasteland. GM screen:
Shawon Will+10: 1d100 ⇒ 54 Tarkhan Logic+20: 1d100 ⇒ 88 Shawon: You feel as if something is trying to connect with you. Not so much through the warp, more like a mental leech feeding off your energy. You believe it to be emanating from that antennae to the north. ![]()
![]() I like to let you all roll your own dice, but due to the limitations of this format it seemed the better option. "Yes, Hunt-Brother Shawon is correct. Hunt Brother Etsuo deploy our cyber hawk units to scan the surface prior to our teams being dropped. We shall employ the strategy of the falcon and the rodent as it is written by Quan Zhou the Great Khan. " You have +10% to navigate surface and +5% to awareness thanks to the collaboration of the cyberhawks. You load up on the Storm Eagle transport. Cyber-Hawk scans locate a promising drop point and you head out for that destination. No life has been detected. Smoke is deployed as you land as a standard precaution. The ground is metallic, but there are many grooves and terrain features on the surface. With you is an assualt marine and an apothecary. Two more tactical marines are guarding the landing zone. There is a protruding feature up ahead to the north that could be an antennae or a power source. To the east is a slope and a basin of sorts. The ground there is a bright sheen. To the south is a series of columns that stand about 20' tall and 5' wide that stretch for kilometers. To the west is a trench that continues as far as you can see. There is a gentle hum that is ever present as you walk on the surface that is not rhythmic and slightly irritating. ![]()
![]() A navigator turns to Hunt-Brother Shawon."One month by my estimation. Our allies in the XXth legion confirm my approximation." He nods to a delegation of Alpha Legion that is conversing with Jubal Khan. Outside you can see an enormous construct of obvious Xenos origins. It is like an artificial planetoid. The XXth legion has had a fleet here for a full year without any reported activity you gather from conversation in the room. However, a Mjordhainn vessel reportedly departed from this location. It's destination is unknown and was too quick for the blockade to react. As the room starts to increase its mumblings of side conversation, Jubal steps forward and silences the crowd in the vast and opulent council chambers. "Hunt-Brothers. You have been called here because you are the tip of the spear. I send you on one of the most dangerous missions I can conceive of. To explore this planetary base and learn what we can to capture our prey. I will dispatch several teams via Storm Eagles to the surface. Teams will be comprised of a mix of individuals with specific talents. Harrowmaster Velikai of the XXth legion will also send support on this mission. If there are questions speak now, but time is vital." Common Lore Adeptus Astartes-10%:
The Alpha Legion or XXth Legion are known also as the Ghost Legion. Experts of espionage and surgical strikes against the enemy. A Harrowmaster is a theater commander and likely the highest ranking member of the XXth legion in the area. Scholastic Lore Codex Astartes: The Codex Astartes did not exist in the way it does in the M41, however many other doctrines of battle existed during this time. The situation before you is rare, but not completely unique. You recall a simular story of when the Vth legion repelled the orks from a planetoid that had been completely covered by their odd machines, even mined to the core with an attempt to install some sort of warp drive. In this mission the Vth legion used cyberhawks and other drones to survey the land. Perhaps a mention of this to the Master of the Hunt would be useful. ![]()

Lore: Common Imperium/Jericho reach +10%:
Not much is commonly known about the Jericho reach at this time. The XXth Legion has encountered new Xenos species in this region of space that is on the very Eastern Fringe of the Imperium. Rumors of strange tech devices are sometimes mentioned, but that is standard when dealing with Xenos. The apothecary looks you both over top to bottom. "Report to medical for evaluations before we head out. Jubal wants everyone in prime condition." He turns to leave. ![]()
![]() Most of the lore I have based on this timeframe has them in MK 3 or MK 5. They were so desperate for resupply at one point the Night Lords hooked them up with random gear and they were deceived by them into engaging the Dark Angels believing them to be traitors. That being said, I think you can find justification for any MK armor you would like MK1-MKV. Which will allow for a little bit of tweaking for your characters to make them your own. ![]()
![]() I am going to give full Wound and Fate points. Those are things I am never comfortable with being random and it may offset some of the issues that arise from doing PBP to have some more fate points. I added some information to the campaign tab. I will create a profile for Jubal soon which may have some additional information in it. We can probably start Friday I am thinking. Give some others time if there is any more interest out there. ![]()
![]() Rules of campaign so far:
All players are members of the White Scars. Different Brotherhoods, hordes, Pioneer companies etc. allowed. These still use White Scar rules when generating characters and only for background purpose. Characters can have the additional pasts: Terran Decent- You were born on Terra and though you have adapted to your chapter, you have difficulty accepting some of their customs and rituals. Stormseers make you uncomfortable though you respect them and have seen them work miracles. Tithed to another chapter: You are the result of the chapter’s tendency to tithe from worlds that belong to other chapters. You may hold some resentment that you did not go to a chapter that your family did or are completely content within the Vth legion however wonder what might have been. Depending on what Tithe world you come from you may find some of the traditions of the Chogorians hard to swallow. The campaign starts on the Lance of Heaven, Jubal Khan’s flag ship. A description from Lexicanum is below. Missions will be in the Mjordhainn system. Lance of Heaven (Dictatus-class Battleship) - A mighty capital class warship that served in the White Scars Legion's fleet during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy eras. An ancient vessel by the time of the Heresy, it was one of the V Legion's core vessels. No Deathwatch training or Hypno-Conditioning.
All specialties are allowed from core rulebook.
Librarians are Stormseers and have access to powers from White Scar psychic powers from First Founding supplement. Tactical Marines lose the choice of Tactical Expertise. KavKhan advanced specialty will be made available to Tactical Marines as the campaign progresses. All characters start with Pilot (Jetbike) skill. Archeotech is no longer a thing. Any reference to this is ignored. For now, character generation is limited to the main core rule book except for the White Scars portion of The First Founding supplement which will be provided and the following semi-homebrewed specialty. ![]() You are gathered among fellow Whitescars, however it is not a typical gathering. There is a large fire and a makeshift podium with several trophies of recent hunts displayed. Members of the Karaoghlanlar, Burgediin Sarhvu, Akoghlanlar,Kharash and even a member of the rarely seen Uhann Solban are present. It was an honor to just be among such warriors at a gathering, and you feel a little out of place.
"As you know we have been called to the Chondax system by the Warmaster. However, we will not be going with our brethren." The man speaking you recognize. Jubal Khan, Lord of the Brotherhood of the Summer Lightning and the Death That Comes With Laughter he was called. There are some murmurs in the crowd but are silenced as Jubal continues to speak. "You have all been chosen to represent your brothers in a matter of honor. As you know the Mjordhainn beasts have been raiding us. Chogorian natives and battle brothers alike. The Khagan can not let this go unanswered, he has called upon me to lead an Ikhan. A great hunt. You all shall accompany me on the Lance of Heaven and venture out into the cosmos to bring down our prey. Our mission is simple. Bring the head of the Mjordhainn patriarch to our Khagan. We will not fail. Though you may be from different brotherhoods, hordes, and even planets often trained in competition to one another. Today you are Hunt-Brothers and represent the entire Vth Legion." Jubal pauses and looks over the crowd. "Tonight we feast and honor our ancestors. Tomorrow we ride!" The roar around the camp fire was thunderous. A Stormseer throws a powder into the fire. It ignites briefly and his eyes go white as he whispers a prayer. A shamanistic blessing of the hunt. Welcome to my interest check/recruitment for a game of Deathwatch that is a bit different than normal. It is set during the Horus Heresy and what is the first Great Hunt of the White Scars. There is no Ordo Xenos in this time. The Emperor is alive and is not considered a god as he is in the time of M41. This is M31. I am planning on running this for some friends of mine IRL and figured I would try to iron it out a bit online. I am not sure of the interest of 40k RPG on this forum so we might not get enough, but as long as we get a few I think it could work. I will post some changes I have to the current Deathwatch rules to match this setting soon. The most obvious is that you are all White Scars. There is no Deathwatch. Things like archeotech will be ignored as archeotech is present tech. The White Scars portion of the First Founding supplement will be used. Other than that we will stick to the Core book to start until I can go over some of the other supplements for what's appropriate.
