After easily leaping over the man's clumsy attempt to trip him, Marco laughed as he jumped down.
Spotting movement behind the big guy, he pointed with his sword.
"Who's your little friend? Never mind, I'll just go introduce myself."
He smiled and dove past the pirate into the smoke filled cabin to (J,10).
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Stopping inside, he tried to listen for the enemy.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
Ugh. I really need to practice blind-fighting more... He thought to himself.

Seeing the smoke pouring out of the doorway, Marco did not want to go in there. Not simply being unable to see, but being unable to distinguish friend from foe.
Suddenly noticing two pirates tumbling out of a side door, Marco elatedly pursued them.
Dodging around Gatherine and her cloud of gunsmoke, Marco leapt up on the table (G,9) and smiled at the pirates.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
"Marco; Compt D'Enrotheld. You really, REALLY should not have taken hostages..." He suggested.
He lunged at the guy at (F,10).
Rapier attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 for a possible 1d6 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 4 = 14 magic, piercing and precision damage.

Suddenly realizing he can't tell a pirate from a hostage with the smoke bomb filling the interior, Marco knuckled his head and tried to think.
Suddenly he shouted "Fire! They set the shack on fire! We gotta get out! We gotta get out!" He bluffed, hoping they would come out to them.
Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Well, I'm kind of interested in the Hell's Rebels game.

Marco turned to look back at Gatherine and Garborn, reached into his belt pouch and showed them his smoke pellet.
Turning back to the man, he made a show of looking at the odd looking poultry.
"Some fine looking specimens to be sure. But what can you tell me of the pedigree of..."
Bluff to make the crooks think we are not suspicious.: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
He stopped and shaded his eyes, pretending to look out to sea.
"I say, is that a ship?" He spoke loudly.
Bluff to make people look that way.: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
While the crooks hidden in the shack are presumably looking away, Marco flicked the smoke bomb into the shacks space there.
Throw (Ranged touch): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 Pellet will produce a 10ft cube of smoke.
Undercover of the smoke he will charge up to the shack.

Marco smiled in greeting...
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
Then he glanced back at Gatherine as she pointed out the injuries, then turned a sharper glance at the man.
"Yes. That kind of thing usually needs at least one other person... Who else is in that shack sir?" He asked pleasantly, fingering his crossbow.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Marco strolled along, peering down at the new birds. Puzzled by their behavior, he approached them for a closer look.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16

Not bothering to ready his crossbow, still slung casually over his shoulder, Marco continued to approach the men. He made sure to stay out of Gatherine's line of fire though.
Smiling easily, he put his booted foot up on a stump and did his best Captain Morgan impression as he addressed the men.

Marco strolled up from the shoreline like he was on a sightseeing tour. He kept an eye out for trees that might be suitable for a ships mast.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
Marco stopped and peered around, puzzled.
"Do you hear that? I could swear I heard moaning a moment ago..."
He pointed at where some birds were taking flight.
"Perhaps that way." He said, making his way in that direction.

Marco looked disgusted.
"Well. In any case, we aren't going anywhere without masts or oars for a few days at least."

Safely aboard the Moana Tarquona, Marco took off his baldric and sank down to the deck gingerly favoring his leg. He enlisted the help of any even halfway medically talented persons to draw the last of the urchin spines from his foot.

She offers a reward of jewels "once they pass" for her ally's rescue. Not seeing much hope for a yes rather quickly, she adds... "I suppose you could rest up first if you must..."

Marco held up his hand quickly.

"I'd given thought to heading to shore to make repairs, but.. if that witch still lives... I say we limp along to Hell Harbor. Aye?"

Marco looked at him with surprise.

Profession:Sailor: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
"Plus, we aren't moving anywhere deeper than this with the ship as it is now. We'll need a week at least to rig her for oars, and if you want to sail in comfort, we'll need to rig a new mainmast. Once we locate a suitable tree, perhaps a couple of days to step it up."

Marco looked longingly at the entrances leading deeper into the ancient tomb.
"Look at that... and so much more. If only we had time." He said sadly.
But he shook his head.
"Come my friends, the ship is surely freed from the coral now. Let us rescue who we can and depart." He called out.

"You will come for us? Later, when we're asleep or separated? I'm afraid it's not the cards for you my friend, not when we can do this right now!" Marco called out as he swam to attack.

Marco coughed.

"Much can be learned from the ancient teachings... if .. you serve."

"Sorry old boy," replied Marco, "That's just not in the cards." He said, flourishing his rapier right in front of his nose.

"Aroden's beard! I have never heard such complaining at learning new things since my sophomore years at the University..." Replied Marco with disapproval.

Round 4________

Up high enough to overlook the whole chamber, Marco faltered as he glanced down to see the pictographs on the walls where the coral had fallen away.
"Aroden's beard! This was once an ancient Azlanti burial shrine!"

Recovering, Marco swims over to attack the last guy.
Swim: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
rapier attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 for a possible 1d6 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 4 = 12 piercing, magic and precision damage.

"Marco, some of us are in a life or death combat here, get your priorities right please"

Round 3______

Marco swam 20' straight up, arching his eyebrow at Tusara.
"Young lady," He said stiffly, "I at least am doing so. Observing the proper courtesy, even between combatants, is the duty of the Gentleman. And ladies too in these modern times.
"Of course, I was also hoping an enemy leader would reveal himself as well." He said breaking into a grin.

Marco looks puzzled.
"Serve who? Shayonna dey-shtah-ki Zura... You mean Shayonna Des'zhtaki? 'One who draws profane power from'... Zura?
"This personage sounds interesting. Can you introduce us?" Marco asked with all curiosity.

Round 2________
Marco swims up 10' to attack (G,8) again.
Swim: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
rapier attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 for a possible 1d6 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 4 = 11 piercing, magic and precision damage.

Round 1________
Marco dropped his defensive stance and turned to the one at (G,8).
He feints...
Feint; my Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 vs his Sense Motive (or CMD). Success=my next attack is vs his FFAC.
Then thrusts!
rapier attack: 1d20 + 10 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 10 - 1 = 25 for a possible 1d6 + 5 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 4 - 1 = 9 piercing, magic and precision damage.

Surprise________________

Marco nodded and grinned.
"Excellent. You have provided us the opportunity to defeat you. We appreciate your cooperation and it will not go unnoticed in my report."
He lashed his sword through the water.
"En guard." He said pleasantly to the merfolk.
Shift to total defense (AC27)
Move to (F,8).

Marco frowned at the sight of the hands over the faces.
"I've seen this kind of thing before. I saw a woodcut print depicting an 'Unholy' high priest. Haestrundt, I believe the name was.
"He was a villain, turned anti-hero, turned mass murderer. He was also found to be a follower of a death cult goddess... Hm, name started with a Z... " He said, thinking aloud.

He turned to Garborn, then looked behind the party.
"What light Garborn? Do you think we're being followed?" He asked, worried.

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Knowledge (engineering): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Knowledge (geography): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

"Well, I guess we follow the left hand wall." He said, and swam to the Eastern tunnel. He avoided the hands on chains things.
Swimming: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Marco proceeds to swim over the pedestal, up against the ceiling.
Swimming: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
He moved gingerly, still weakened from the urchin spines.

Curious, Marco approached and peered closely at the runes.
"These runes are old... very, very old." He said, running his fingers over them to make sure.
"The runes are Ancient Azlanti. They translate something like... 'Torrent' and 'Water'. Torrent of Water, Torrent and Water, Torrent to Water; or something like that. It has been a while since my language studies." He said, musing aloud.

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

Marco shrugged out of his pack and tossed it down, followed by his crossbow.
He drew his sword and grinned at his companions.
"Shall we then?" He said, then strode into the water.

Marco nodded solemnly to Garborn. Then he smiled and looked at his companions.
"Anyone want to come with me?"

Marco stood forward, sheathing his blade.
"I at least am going. I do not care to be swamped by sea urchins. So ignominious." He said. He took a glove off and watched his fingers tremor ever so slightly.
"And I am envenomed. I may not have long to live in any case. So, forward with sword in hand." He said cooly.

"What cowardice is this? We are surrounded, isolated, weakened, and you STILL cannot face us in battle? COWARDS!" Shouted Marco into the fog. He slashed his sword through the air with frustration.
Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Fort save vs DC12: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Fail.
1d2 ⇒ 2 Dex damage.
Marco grimaced as his feet are pierced by urchin spines.
He lashed out in a sweep with his rapier.
Rapier attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 for a possible 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 slashing and magic damage.
Then he backflipped East and North to (P,18)
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

Antonio steps to (Q,17), drawing his rapier and a dagger. He readies an attack when the swarm gets close enough.
Rapier attack: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 - 2 = 17 for a possible 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 slashing damage.
Dagger attack: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 - 2 = 22 for a possible 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 piercing damage.

"It may be they are licking their wounds," Said Marco, keeping a sharp eye out.
"Then again, maybe not. Let us have no unnecessary delay."

Three in each launch then. I'll take the first, Aersten take the second.

Got to go get them while the sun is up.

Marco first studies the problem of getting off the reef. Is it simply a matter of waiting for high tide and/or shifting ballast around?

Marco salutes, "Aye aye captain! Come fellowes, we need to get this done before sunset, lest they overwhelm us in the dark!" He called out to the others.
He helps lower the launches, then climbs into one.

Marco stashed his pack and crossbow out of the way while he pitched in.

Profession:Sailor: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Climbing up to the crows nest to look down into the water, he made some calculations; Judging the current coming off of the waterfall, the sea floor, the wave action, and coupled with the tidal flows this time of year, he came to a conclusion.
"Captain!" He called down. "We need to yaw the ship so we are crosswise to the river flow! That'll get the current to carry us!" He gestured to make his point. Assuming I haven't misinterpreted anything...

"Ah... Of course Captain." Said Marco with slight hesitation and a nod.
He really hoped the comment about the ship and it's cargo didn't mean he had stepped over the line into piracy.

Marco nodded at Aerys.
"Aye, we weigh anchor and we'll drift to the islet and rescue our people. It'll take a while though; we can work on jury rigging a mast while we wait. Even if we can't do that with the spars and booms we have, we can still rig a tow with the ships boats."
He looked at the Captain.
"Permission to weigh anchor Captain?" He called out.

I was waiting for the Captain, 'cause I don't have authority aboard this ship.

Marco nodded gravely.
"They will have anticipated a boat. We will take them by surprise with a whole ship." He grinned.

Marco cleared his throat, trying to get the Captain's attention.

"Marco Enrotheld; honored to make your aquaintence!" He said, bowing formally.
"I was just wondering, if we are to rescue those poor souls on the reef before they are devoured, should we not get under weigh now?"

With the mainmast useless, Marco starts looking around for something that could serve as a jury rigged mast.

But can't seem to find anything suitable.
He sighed, looking at the ships boats.
He really hated rowing...
