Attempting to dissuade the halfling woman's anger, Marcellano looks at her kindly and says "Calm, dear lady. He poses no threat to us now." Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 Turning to his companions, he says more urgently "We must bring this one with us." He gestures toward the woman on the ground. "I'd like very much to know why she was accosted in the street, and on whose orders. Will one of you fine gentlemen help me get her on her feet?" Marcellano moves to her and tries to pull her up on her feet. Strength check, if necessary- Strength: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13

Marcellano, making sure to use his more substantial companions to shield himself from the thugs, says quietly "We should bring her along as well. I know this woman, and she doesn't deserve a fate so grim. She could be useful to us." Lifting his voice at the attackers, he calls out clearly "Run now, fools, or be crushed." Sensing he's far outstayed his welcome, Marcellano hastily checks the area for the safest way out. Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10 "Come, friends! I don't think we're wanted here, and I don't like the looks of that woman. We'd best make our retreat." Still maintaining Bardic Performance. Marcellano feigns bravado but is actually quite disturbed by what he's just seen, and makes the quickest exit he can without actually sprinting away. Bardic Performance - Inspire Courage:

With the air partially knocked out of him from the blow, Marcellano says to her "Let's hope you don't get another chance." Regaining his breath, he shouts "Don't lose heart, friends! The tide is in our favor!" (with this act he maintains his Bardic Performance.) He reaches into his coat and pulls out, of all things, a stick of butter. Muttering a few arcane phrases under his breath, he tosses it about 5 feet behind the blonde woman, where it hits the ground and bursts into a pool of grease. Reflex Save DC is 14. Whoo I'm not dead in the first round. Marcellano places himself between Victor and Braxton, hoping for the best cover. Like this: V
"Careful, gents. It looks like I've gotten us in deep here. My apologies." While moving, he clears his throat and speaks out, clearly and with great will-

Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 Noticing the guards mostly withdrawing from the area, I look around to attempt to find anyone not actively taking part in the violence and who just seems to be caught up in the situation. Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4 If I can find anyone in particular, I point them out to Braxton before getting down from the statue. "There are others in trouble. Should we make our way to them and attempt to find a safe place away from here or should we try to ride out the storm?"

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3 Momentarily stunned by how far the situation has spiraled out of control, Marcellano takes a step toward Braxton, making sure to stay on the statue, and shouts out - "Calm, good people! Let us not give in to our base desires! We must channel our efforts not against each other, but against the occupation!" Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Marcellano takes just a moment to observe the area, not necessarily realizing the full gravity of the situation until he had gotten it well underway. I think I'm in over my head here... Roughly how many people are here? Can I tell how many look obviously like guards, roughly how many showing obvious support or disdain? Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5 Looking at Braxton, Marcellano quietly says "Keep your eyes open, my good man. I may have bitten off more than I can chew, and I don't want you to come to harm on my behalf."

Noticing Braxton's efforts, Marcellano attempts to herd some of the protesters in his direction. "All of you with good cause and a desire in your hearts to free us from oppression, join us! Come and speak to us, and together we will find a way." Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 While speaking to the people, I keep an eye out for guards or other trouble heading in our direction. Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

Marcellano quietly clears his throat in order to project as much as possible and continues. "Good people, in this past week, how many of you have been unjustly tread upon by our oppressors?" He points out a few individuals in the crowd. "You, sir! Have you been forced to give up your hard-earned coin by the iron hand of the law? Has your family? "And you, miss! Have you or your children spilled any grain? My father was taken into that very building, for the simple crime of wearing the same clothing he has worn for years. We've had no word of him in two days. How many more of us must be silenced and hidden away before we rise up? Our city has long been proud of its independence. Are we to give up our heritage on the whim of some noble cousin of the Queen? I say no! If we stand together, we can return our city to its rightful place in the empire! Who is with me?" Wary of the damage a morningstar could do and certainly not looking to leave this world bleeding and trampled by a crowd, Marcellano approaches the man near the statue, taking care to hide his bag of coin from view. Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 "Sir, a child in a ratty cloak just stole my purse! He ran that way. If you could do me the kindness of retrieving it I'd be more than happy to reward you. Marcellano smiles, hinting at the promise of gold. Bluff: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
