Mahonrai lived as a human long ago, although he has been living on the Astral Plane ever since becoming an angel. He recently came to the material plane on a mission from his deity, having been told to craft his own bow "one worthy of your calling," and to "imbue it with light." He chose Falcon's Hollow because he thought a worthy bow should start out as worthy wood, and this place seemed to have the worthiest.
Since coming here though, he has realized that Sinashakti likely wants him to refamiliarize himself with humanity and to spread his message of joy. Since the making of the bow and figuring out what his deity's purpose is in sending him here will probably take a while, he is trying to integrate with the community, as much as an Angel among humans can... spreading joy, and getting to know people's beliefs and desires.
His days of being a human are long past, and he hasn't recognized it yet (and may never), but in his mortal life he was an ancestor of the Samkils, one of the founding families of this small village. Although now an Angel with a much larger, more beautiful, pure, and intimidating mien, he still has the prominent features of a brave Samkil, and although his purpose is not retribution (any deeper purpose of his deity is unknown to him), some people in town who may have had something to do with Jebrika's death may believe that is why he is here.
And who knows, if he ever realizes it, it may be. There is also joy in the righting of wrongs.
