The thing is, the stuff the Paizo folks do feels to me more like, "Hey, check out this thing we started doing in our own games." These guys aren't just a bunch of developers trying to release the next shiny new thing that they are telling us we want (and hoping we really do). These guys are gamers.

Are they Open Content (I don't have my AE book handy)?
Yes. They were included in Unearthed Arcana.

No. I'm referring to Hero Points not Action Points. They were introduced in Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed (not Unearthed Arcana) and updated in Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved.

Erik had exposure to them when he played in Monte's game and they were frequently mentioned in Jason's Age of Worms campaign log. A quick look at AE indicates they are not OGL.

Still...Erik and Monte are friends.

Dude, let's not be talking about your cockles!

I'm sorry, but the impression the OP gives me is this:

DM: You enter a 10 x 10 room and see an orc standing next to a pie. [Melee follows]

OP: Okay, we need to find out why this orc was posted as a guard on this pie.

DM: Maybe he liked pie and didn't want to share it.

OP: The point is, what evil baker is in league with the orcs and baking them pies? Just to be safe, I cast Detect Magic and Detect Poison. If I get results, I'll follow up with Identify. We'll have to get the pie up to the city while it's still fresh and cast Locate Creature to find the evil baker.

DM: maybe it's just a random encounter for a little comedic flavor.

OP: but that's not logical. Why wouldn't the orc just eat his pie? The pie's DR clearly can't withstand the orc's bite attack!

DM: [Looks at the encounter he'd planned as a comedic interlude] Sigh.

Sooo...if he is in fact LG, how can he have LE clerics and absolutely no NG?

Oh it is a great one. We are finishing it off tomorrow with two new characters. One died due to running into ogre. The other got knocked out and sacrificed to Grazz't. The mob freaking out from the swarm and zombie was fun. My wife, playing a chaos monk, took a AoO on a commoner running by and just dropped him. It was a memorable moment

Have you shown Jarod...uhhh...the warlock guy the Thrall of Graz'zt prestige class?>;p

As always, we should keep in mind that this all started with WotC yanking the rug out from under Paizo's feet. Now, instead of being a supporter of(and supported by) WotC, Paizo must become a competitor for you dollars.

As for higher costs, no one is paying for advertising, including WotC itself for exposure to their upcoming products. I've done my own page counts of ads vs. content. No ads=more content. Count me in.
