Female Halfling Rogue1

If I assume the map I see is upside down from yours (I have trail in the upper right), I think I'm good.

Lyssa makes a dash for the treeline well to the west of the hooded man, where she plans to try to take him by surprise.

Will roll hide/move silently on next turn

Since I am not too up on drawing maps using spreadsheets etc, I will endeavour to give a complete description of the area.

The trail you were traveling on runs NW and cuts through the forest. To the NE of the trail is a clearing of land that has been cultivated. The clearing is surrounded to the N, NE, E and SE by forest. A ruined farmhouse and barn stand in the Eastern edge of the clearing.

The hooded man and his two thugs stand to the N in the tree line. The skeletons that surrounded you stood in front of the farm abot 100' N of the trail. (The clearing is aprox 250' wide) War and Belflin were investigating the N/NE edge of the clearing by the trees when the attack happened. The distance from the farmhouse to the N tree line is about 50'.

Hope this is ok

sorry to be a pain about this, but I can't reconcile this with the map, and am still confused. The trail running NW and the farmhouse in the East of the clearing indicate that the left side of the image is North. But the farmhouse looks to be 5-10' from the N tree line, not 50. I'm also unclear on where we are on the map, as we were moving all around when the attack happened. Thanks.

Very helpful, thanks

Crossbow (1d20 6=19, 1d6=2)

Lyssa fires her crossbow at the hooded man.

+1 to hit and damage if within 30'. Could we get some kind of map or description of the layout? I have no idea where I am relative to anything else, so I feel like I'm just rolling randomly.

How much damage? That hits me flat-footed.

Should we be rolling initiative?

Female Halfling Rogue1

"Band together," Lyssa whispers. "Something is happening."

Female Halfling Rogue1

Lyssa is instantly alert. "Alajos, quiet!" she hisses. "They may still be around."

Cocking her crossbow, Lyssa starts to advance cautiously toward the scene.

Spot, Listen (1d20 4=20, 1d20 6=23)

Female Halfling Rogue1

Spot (1d20 4=14)

Lyssa jumps up with her crossbow, then swears colorfully and long as the raven gets away. "How did the thing get so close without us seeing?"

Female Halfling Rogue1

Lyssa yawns. "So the rocks are nothing interesting. But we've lost most of our daylight. We may as well stay near here, and do a bit of hunting for dinner." She shows little interest in Otto's tale, but is focused on setting watches.

Female Halfling Rogue1

Lyssa stands watch over the group, keeping an eye on the surrounds while the men dig.

Female Halfling Rogue1

"A camp with shelter sounds marvelous -- if unoccupied," Lyssa observes. She limbers her crossbow and follows the others.

Who-all is "you" now? I lost track with all the traffic.

Female Halfling Rogue1

"So, did we camp at a coachpost?" Lyssa asks, but with a smile.

"A story is always welcome."

Female Halfling Rogue1

Lyssa refills her small mug, this time with coffee.

I perhaps overestimated my knowledge and whilst exploring old catacombs triggered a rather cunning teleport trap and now it would seem find myself in the company of heroes.I have a few minor magics and if you would have me I would gladly accompany you on whatever madcap recklesness you have planned, at the very least until I can find a town with hot baths"

"Heroes?" Lyssa laughs. "And how do you know we are not the robbers you are too poor to interest?"

Saa wrote:

He starts a slow lilting wordless chant and the bitter smell of blood, unwashed bodies and stale clothes lifts from you all.

"Thats better, now which Mythic Godlings do I find myself travelling with?" he says with a smile.

Lyssa breathes in, "Ah, now that's nice. Maybe we'll kidnap you instead of robbing you." She raises her mug. "Lyssa Storm, at your service."

Female Halfling Rogue1

Lyssa lows her crossbow as the fight ends, looking vaguely disappointed, then she brightens. "Excellent work, Otto -- a useful trick, that!"

"Now, War, ale sounds the thing to settle our nerves after a fight," she smiles at the dwarf.

Female Halfling Rogue1

Lyssa stands up from her bunk and grabs up and loads her crossbow, stepping back away from the melee. "By Freya, that thing is ugly!"

Believe that's all I can do this round, including 5' step back

Lyssa is reasonably cheery during the miserable day's walk. She finds it hard to complain about her namesake after all.

When camp is made, she assists in the pitching of tents, doing the best her stature permits. "Well, I've slept in worse beds," she grins.

Turning to his companions, "We should rest up tonight. This natural shelter," looking around at the light canopy, "will provide an easier night. We have left quite a trail through the muddy ground though, and evil is always about. I will take first watch. Whom shall I wake next?"

"My vision in the dark is not as good as some," Lyssa answers with glances at the half-orc and the dwarf. "Perhaps I should take the morning watch."

Female Halfling Rogue1

Oh, my, what an interesting group!

Good to go

Thanks, for the kind words, French.

Bear in mind, folks, that while Lyssa is statted as a rogue at level 1, she's really a fighter with tumble and sneak attack. If we need a door open, the barbarian will probably be better suited to the job.

I prefer just one.

Ok, I think I'm ready to go.

Halfling Rogue, reporting for duty.

Will need to work on the background -- her personality is of a fighter, not a thief.

Come on, baby! I shall totally respect you after. I mean, let's just have a bit of fun, beautiful. No strings, just friends having a good time.

Sorry, it ain't that easy.

Female Halfling Rogue1

Aha! But under Hypnotism:

Even after the spell ends, the creature retains its new attitude toward you, but only with respect to that particular request.

A creature that fails its saving throw does not remember that you enspelled it.

Possibilities . . .

EDIT: Eldin's total diplomacy modifier is +7, but he's not much good at bluffing. If we go straight diplomacy, he might be the best face man, but if it seems like a bluff is called for, perhaps Lyssa should do the talking.

FYI, Lyssa's Diplomacy and Bluff are both +6. But intelligence is sexy, right?

Charm Person's also been known to work wonders; unfortunately, the casting is conspicuous (VS - at least without metamagic)

Per the SRD:

A creature that successfully saves against a spell that has no obvious physical effects feels a hostile force or a tingle, but cannot deduce the exact nature of the attack. Likewise, if a creature’s saving throw succeeds against a targeted spell you sense that the spell has failed.

And even assuming the target fails the save, we shouldn't charm someone when there will be adverse consequences when he realizes later he was bewitched.

Female Halfling Rogue1

"Well, Terin," says Lyssa, holding his eyes. "I may say I'm good with people."

Looking around the room, she adds, "I have some gift for languages, particularly the monstrous tongues, and I have a modest talent for illusion."

"It appears at least two of us are human, sir -- we will need some source of light."

Lyssa looks thoughtful when Terin displays his power.

Female Halfling Rogue1

Sense Motive

Lyssa takes note of Lavinia's hesitation in speaking of the fire, but now is not the time to press. She looks around at the assembled party, her eyes lingering on the half-orc and the warforged, then with a small smile for Terin.

"Lady Vanderboren, for the reward you offer, I believe this group will easily be able to recover that ship and ring from a band of thugs. As with the Walker, here, my skills are more with word than blade, but I find them to be sometimes surprisingly effective."

Lyssa returns Terin's flirting, without ever getting serious about it [I can't keep up!]

"Lady Vanderboren," Lyssa acknowledges. "I am Lyssa Storm, but I suspect you know that," she smiles.

Female Halfling Rogue1

Lyssa smiles at Terin. "Why, thank you, sir. Yes, I did get an invitation from Lady Vanderboren. I take it you did as well?"

On being brought into the atrium, Lyssa introduces herself by first name, with a smile and a delicate hand for all (even Bynoc).

Lyssa is a tall, attractive young woman, with long, straight black hair. Her dress is a rich green color, under her rather ordinary brown cloak.

Female Halfling Rogue1

Lavinia Vanderboren, eh?, Lyssa thinks, Better dress up -- this might pay! Lyssa goes to the room she keeps in her social club's hangout and chooses some of her better clothes and some simple jewelry.

Female Halfling Rogue1

Lyssa takes this in stride, unusual as it is in her neighborhood. "Festival and Blue Skink? Hoo, we're going upscale! Tell her I'll be there to listen, at least."

Background note for GM:

Spoiler:
Sorry I haven't got background for you yet. I'm figuring she's a street kid from Shadowshore, now a lieutenant and the face for a minor gang/guild. What knowledge skill she has is from stolen books she reads in secret. Fair?
