Yeah, it does seem that way. Is that how people usually run it? Forgoing daylight to ensure people can't scry on you seems reasonable, I suppose. And unfortunately I am the GM! :)

I've heard many times that walls lined with lead can stop attempts at Divination. Does this method require you to have no windows? Can the spell 'find its way in' via those?

I don't want to derail your thread or anything, so feel free not to reply, but out of curiosity what's wrong with Mobility (relatively new player/GM)?

Thanks so much for all the great ideas!

Jokes aside, with no judgement involved:

1) how are you handling the moral/ethical considerations of assassination

2) what is the end-goal of this character, and why has he fallen into this lifestyle? (Money, obviously, but why?)

1. Well, his character is Lawful Evil.

2. He's trying to raise the money required to resurrect his dead bodyguard (and remove negative levels) - after that, he's leaving the city and continuing with his normal goals. This is temporary work.

As for the assumption his character ought to be terrible at this because of the multiclassing... well, he just isn't. He's very inventive with how he uses his spells and makes a lot of use of Stealth and Bluff. It probably helps that he rolled really well for his ability scores, too. And maybe a bit of me being a new GM :)

(Does PRC mean prestige class?)

So my player (Rogue 3/Sorcerer 3) is performing assassinations for badly-needed money at the moment, and so far they've mostly been too easy. The last one was difficult because his target was two levels higher than him and heard him hiding under his bed when he came home. Generally (obviously) the formula is wait until they're asleep and kill them.

His next target is an alchemist/merchant who probably shouldn't be high level. His shop will have a guard, but I'm not sure how realistic it is for him to have guards at his home too?

Other than that I'm looking for mundane ways (not alarm spells, etc) to make getting into/around his house a challenge and would appreciate any ideas.

If we have an oracle who is hiding in a room with a very narrow entrance, and she needs to defend that entrance, what methods would people suggest? Currently I'm trying to think of something to line the floor of the entrance in to prevent intruders from being able to use stealth, so she would be alerted at least. She only has healing spells and no use magic device, so I'm actually looking for entirely mundane methods. She is going to be there for days, so it's not so simple as, for instance, aiming a crossbow the entire time.

I thought marbles might help too, though the reflex save is quite low.

I found this line in 'Undead Revisited':

"a new breed of exceptionally clever young noble daughters
have learned to intricately manipulate their treacheries to
give rise to the creatures, [...] those responsible for a banshee’s
creation then carefully turn the undead’s ire against
their rivals"

But nothing more about it. Is there any more information on how a banshee can be directed to carry out certain acts? I was previously under the impression they just attack all living creatures, so surely conversation would be impossible?
