Lucky keeps plugging away against the same thug. Sweat is is pouring from his brow as he takes workmanlike swings at his opponent Sorry for the delay. I wasn't aware I was up. And I have nothing unusual for Lucky to do except to Keep hackin' away at thug #5. Morningstar. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Emboldened by the bravery of his comrades, Lucky steps up to his opponent and bangs away furiously - trying to land a hit with his morningstar in the one hand while he holds out his shield with the other.

Better run, scumbags! You're about to get mowed over! Shield and morningstar ready, Longthorn plans his next move. Contemplating a combat action. I need to know what each of the thugs is doing (eg. who are they facing?). Can we make quick summary? Thanks!

We can save Gurni, but we must secure the door! Just a tactical retreat to buff Malcom and then secure the door. I also think Lucky can use his buffs more easily when among his allies rather than getting cut down in melee trying to heal Gurni.
Cleric 1st - HP 7/9 - F+3.R+0.W+5 - AC 14.10.14 Init. +0 - Perc. +3
Gurni. Hang in there mate! But I can't help you if I'm dead. Longthorn's eyes are wide in shock at the fall of his new-found comrade, but Lady Luck favours those who do not tempt fate. He decides to make a tactical retreat. He kisses his holy symbol and brushes it on Malcom as he pulls back. Ray! the door!

Has anywone here been to the Pike's warehouse before? Or the the smithy next door? Good dwarf, I think our next step will become clearer once we deal with the Pikes. Surely the rot goes very much deeper than that. It's common knowledge that the Lord Gurat has a policy of abetting lawlessness in his town. He encourages it. Most of the criminals have joined the ranks of his guard after all. But the immediate threat remains the Pikes. If we can earn some street cred we may gain support from the community. Without active grass roots resistance, this town will never achieve the prosperity which is its due. We can become catalysts for that kind of positive change. And at this time it would be far too reckless to take on the likes of Gurat and his Redwall goons. Know Local: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

How far ahead do we need to look decide on our ultimate goal? Some of my elders were gifted in foreknowledge...although often enough it was the soundness of their wisdom which guided us and our good fortune - as the Gods do not reveal the future as they did of yore. Clearly this community is undergoing a period of lawlessness and change. We cannot anticipate all of the consequences of our involvement. Besides - even if we walked away from this challenge - there would be consequences to face for that as well. What we do have now is the freedom to act. That is a good thing. It gives us options to keep working events in a way of our choosing. Let us first rid this town of the Pikes. Then we can see what new opportunities providence brings.

Just by being in this town, we are forced to take sides. If we can never trust anyone we cannot truly live free. Its obvious that Talus is playing us against the Pikes, but is he well-intentioned in doing so? He certainly seems to be.

At the guard shack: It is curious though. They didn't waste any time meting out "justice". I wonder where the guards stand with respect to the Pikes - and where they and the Pikes both stand in the eyes of the Lord of Redwall. I suppose the guards are just another of the gangs who fight for control of the streets. So does that then make us just another one of the gangs? I think we should get back before we invite trouble. Besides - this has left a bad taste in my mouth. I need a drink.

Lucky marches the bound men to the guard house. "Greetings, men. These hooligans here tore up the Sleeping Leopard, they viciously attacked the patrons and have besmirched this town's reputation for good business. Fortune smiles on them that they are still alive to tell about it. That and the mercy of good Talus, who bade us bring them here for incarceration."

Lets bind these miscreants up more securely. I don't mind taking them to the guardhouse, but I could use someone with a strong arm to assist me. Goodwin, can you give me a hand with that? Using rope from the barkeep hopes to work with Goodwin to bind these guys up. Then ....off to the guard house.

When Shelyna profers a dram of strong whiskey to Longthorn he smiles, and downs it while looking into her eyes. "That's a remarkable pus- ahem - cat you have. I am Longthorn. Some people call me Lucky. My people deemed me a chosen one of Desna on account of my auspicious birth. The Goddess favours those who are willing to stand up and take a chance to break their bonds and pursue their dreams. Since I was born I have sought Desna's way beneath the stars. I have fought for freedom and she has blessed me in turn with a measure of her power. When needed, I can call upon her to work minor marvels, heal wounds, strenghten resolve or swing the balance of fate. I have been wandering these lands looking for adventure and seeking like-minded people to join in a worthy cause.

Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 My people have long suffered from the likes of these thugs. They prey on the fear we hold for the safety of loved ones...they prey on that as if it were our weakness. But they are fools in the end, for it is that love which strengthens our resolve when we stand together to throw off their yoke and defeat them. If we decide here to take up a common cause, Talus, will your girls know of the dangers? Are they ready for this challenge? Are you ready for that risk?...for all of us will be in danger. I for one am ready to stand and fight.

Holding his ground and threatening the thug with his morningstar, Longthorn tries to surprise the brute with a fist to the jaw instead.
...unless by the time his turn arrives the thug manages to really hurt someone....in which case Lucky will grab the mornigstar in two hands and hit for 1d8+3 damage.....not that it matters because it looks like he's going to miss anyway. Lucky has no appetite for bloodshed here.

I understand, my lady....at least as much as a man can try to understand the predicament of one as exceptional as you. Longthorn continues to speak, his voice rising in crescendo and directing itself around the room and to the men in the corner. It is good that we are in a town of free folk. Here we see many unusual people from all walks of life coming here to do business and go their way in peace. A familiar face is as likely mean harm you in this town as does the face of a stranger. Here we judge others based on their character and their deeds...not on mere appearance....isn't that right gentlemen? As he turns to see the affect of his grandiloquent speech on the room, he just notices that the ruffians are already surrounding the tiefling woman and panting all over her! Ninja-ed! I tried to rework my post to keep Lucky's pompous speech

Seeing the the room freeze up in response to the stunning arrival of Shael, Longthorn decides to approach the otherworldy female. "No need to stand by the wall, lady. There is a comfortable seat right here near the fire. Make yourself at home. Surely you understand the reaction of the patrons to see a woman with such unexpected...features. I admit to sharing some of that alarm, but would not want to make hasty judgement based on appearances....though you are attractive...I can't deny that. I am Longthorn. Can I offer you a drink?... " Longthorn's appearance: A tall, handsome, young man with shoulder-length dark hair, brown skin and blue eyes. He is dressed for the road with a tailored, ermine-lined cloak draped over oiled leather and well worn boots. Strapped onto a baldrick -shining - is an unusual star-shaped circle of blades - a starknife. A morningstar is strapped to his belt. Close by his table are his steel shield, simple quarterstaff and sling sack. Hanging from his neck is a white amulet carved intricately into the shape of a butterfly.

That is awesome and hopefully you don't mind if I borrow the idea. :D Yeah. I just learned this in the other group I am in with DM Lucendar. I think it may be useful for the DM. In the profile section, under the Race tab, instead of race, put your HPs, AC and Save scores and under the Class/Levels tab, put your Perception and Initiative bonuses. So next to your character name instead of it saying, Shael (Female Daemon-Spawn Tiefling Magus 1st), for example, it will say: Shael (HP 9/9 - AC 16.13.13 - F+3.R+3W+2 - Init +3 - Perc. +0)

Goodwin Wintrish wrote: Any option is fine with me. Since option 2 seems to be the favorite I need a reason to like these people as Goodwin is a bit of a loner. He would likely jump up to defend some one who appears weak or unable to defend themselves so I could work with that but ideally I would like to be "friends" with one of you. When Goodwin needs to rest from his sorties in the wild he could easily have become acquainted with a straggling bands of gypsies and vagrants. A small circle of carts and tents outside of town, a warm fire and some food. Easy acceptance without social scrutiny. A chance for some healing. Here he might have befriended Longthorn.

Hey everyone. I am excited to be here! Thanks DM-Salsa. I vote Option 2 as well. Longthorn is the kind of person who will take action to assist someone in distress....especially if they are fleeing some kind of oppresssion or unfair treatment.
Some of you may notice a tall, handsome, young man with shoulder-length dark hair, brown skin. There he is, lounging by the masonry stove and sipping on warm winter wine. He wears well-oiled leathers - a fine ermine cloak is draped on the back of his chair. Look there on his neck! An amulet of Desna...you'd wager he's a gypsy. You can't make his face out too well with all the pipe smoke he's blowing. Hah! He's admiring the cut of that barmaid's blouse with those blue eyes of his....the rascal!
I have posted a character in the works here: Lucky Longthorn the Cleric of Desna. He may seem unlucky considering the fate of his people, however maybe the tragedy of his people has taught him some humility in the face of fate. Desna does favour those who understand the odds and who make wise use of their fortunes. I think one of the variant channelling options would suit this character well. Using this along with selective channeling as well as his "Bit of Luck" domain power could make Lucky a very useful buffer to any party. I hope the variant is cool with you DM-Salsa. The Fate variant:
Here's the PFSRD link:
He will not be a character inclined to violence...his overall physical fitness being a little over average. He should be good ina support role and should excel at making useful allies and gathering information. |
