Need to get them to open up. Let's start with something easy and non-personal.
"First off, we were curious about this contraption here." Lucas points his cane vaguely towards the windmill. "What does it do? Did you make it?"
"Easy now, we're not here to rob you. We just want to ask you some questions."
Cha to calm down, TN 7: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Lucas continues being friendly, hoping to calm this person down before they start running.
"I'm Lucas, and this is Tenchi. What's your name?
Charisma, target 7: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Lucas emerges from his hiding place after hearing Tenchi speak, his eyes closed and his cane held non-threateningly.
"I would do as he says, friend. We only want to talk with you; there's no need for this to become violent."
Again, sorry for my slow posting. This has been a very busy week for me, but now things should be cooling down for a little while.
Lucas sighs and tilts his head back.
"And what if they turn out to be a non-Gifted person, just trying desperately to make their way in a world that left them behind? Would showing off our power accomplish anything, aside from being terrifying?"
"The primary goal of the Organization is to keep Gifted people in check. To assure the average person that we are not a threat to them. How can we do that if our strategy when meeting new people is to lure them into an ambush and intimidate them?"
"And we are certainly not defenseless if they turn out to be hostile. Photon has his rifle sights trained on this spot. Tenchi and Raul, you are both seasoned fighters. And if this person uses their Connection to attack, the four of us can retaliate with our own."
"Displaying our power isn't the issue, in my mind. The issue is showing that we aren't mad with power."
It takes a moment for Lucas to figure out what the others are planning, but once he does...he simply sits down on a nearby slab of concrete, laying his cane on the ground in front of him.
"You may all hide if you like, but I think it would be better to meet this person openly. To show them that we have come with friendly, peaceful intentions."
"Besides, someone with the patience and forethought to build a machine like this doesn't strike me as the type who would attack a stranger without provocation."
Lucas takes a moment to enjoy the mechanical, yet gentle sound of the contraption.
"What's important is that at least one person has lived here recently. And people, unlike boars, can be reasoned with."
Lucas follows the group as they look for an entrance. He keeps listening for signs of movement.
I hope it won't just be my ears that are useful today.
Hearing 5: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Lucas points his cane at the base of the pile.
"Something's moving down there. Sounds like there's a tunnel or cave."
Lucas takes few steps back from the rubble, and turns an ear towards it.
Hearing check, target 5: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Let's just assume someone is describing this to Lucas.
"Three stories? I think we'll have to go around. I doubt I could climb that even if I wasn't blind."
Sorry, I didn't realize you were waiting for me. Although I don't have much to contribute right now...
"Right. I'll keep my...ears open." Lucas smirks jokingly.
Lucas freezes, closes his eyes, and turns an ear toward the creature.
"Does it look like it could be our target?" he whispers.
Lucas walks directly behind Tenchi and Raul, following their footfalls and still listening for continuous sounds.
I give it a day before it goes down again...
Ok, let me try again. This seems like a fair use of Lucas's "trained hearing" fact.
Wis Check (with hearing fact), target 5: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Lucas uses his sensitive ears to listen for sounds like pumps and generators - sources of faint but continuous noise.
Wis: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
"Perhaps we should look for signs of recent destruction. A Shaped Beast would tear recklessly through everything in its path, and a Rogue Gifted might blow up a few buildings as a show of power."
Lucas nodded to each of them as they introduced themselves.
"Pleasure to meet you all. Now, before we set off, let me check one thing. My gift has a certain quirk to it..."
He rummaged through his coat pocket, and took out a small rusted coin. He flipped it, caught it in his palm, then rubbed his fingers over its surface.
1d20 ⇒ 1
He chuckled dryly and returned the coin to his pocket. "Tails on British pound sterling. That's very bad news for whatever we're chasing, and good news for us."
This is just some flavor for Luck's base power, the daily d20 roll. I know it won't be useful until I turn on my connection, but I figured I might as well make the roll now. Also, coin collecting seems like a cool hobby for a post-apocalyptic explorer. :)
Near the rendezvous point, Lucas sat on a burnt tree stump facing the ruins. Even here in the outskirts of the city, the smell was overbearing to his senses. Ash, decay, and so much smog, all blended together in a slurry of filth. Lucas wondered if he would ever get used to it.
When he heard Tenchi approaching, he turned and gave a friendly smile.
"Ah, hello! I'm Lucas, and you must be one of my teammates. Care to sit with me while we wait for the others?"
I'm basically good to go, but I've been thinking about swapping Sword out for Luck. I think Luck would be more interesting to play with, and it has better "last resort" uses.
Here's the alias for Lucas, Idiot Cube's character. Thanks for picking me!
GM Rednal wrote: Your Facts are very handy for this. o wo~ Aw, I knew I was forgetting something...
What? How can it be Dark Souls without an unhinged, murderous psychopath?
But nah, it's fine. Thanks for your consideration.

Here's my character.
Name: Izmir Yilmaz
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Ability Scores: Bandit (Racial bonus: STR)
Class: Brawler 2 / Monk (Master of Many Styles) 2
Demi-gestalt: Barbarian
Traits: Chosen Undead, Reactionary, Indomitable Faith; Drawback: Pride
Starting Gift: Font of Divinity
Covenant: Order of the Blooded Maiden
Backstory: Izmir remembers little about his past. His early memories are scattered by the curse slowly eating away at his mind. The memories he does have are unpleasant, painting a picture of a man plagued by misfortune and despair wherever he went in life. One day, he found that he was not only very good at fighting - it also gave him a sense of fulfillment and exhilaration that nothing else could provide. He then sought to become the world's strongest fighter, honing his skills against increasingly powerful foes. These days, he has found worthy opponents to be few and far between, which has only made him all the more determined to seek them out.
Personality: Izmir is boastful and courageous, and refuses to back down from any challenge. He enjoys humiliating and utterly defeating his enemies in unarmed combat.
Description: Izmir stands six feet tall, with a stocky build. He has short brown hair, and his eyes are a rusty, almost reddish color. His sharp, gaunt features usually show a cocky grin or enraged sneer.
And here's my sheet. Just need to finish picking equipment and feats.
