Agreed.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Sorry, I meant to be recruited in the other game. I'm running three Adventure Paths already, and that's all I can manage. I'm really tempted to run a We Be Goblins game (with plans for We Be Goblins Too and then maybe some homebrew stuff), but so far I'm feeling that even that might be just a bit too much. I've started a recruitment thread a couple times and then given it up before posting but I do keep coming back to it.

Not to mention I really want to play through this AP instead of running it; I don't have the mods anyway; and it honestly looks like a real bear to run. Doing all those daily tasks early on and keeping track of so many NPCs would be a real PITA.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Sure, though I may also throw my hat in that ring.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

I'd guess so, unfortunately. Looks like the GM's real-life issues finally became too time-consuming. Shame, as I was really enjoying it and wanted to play through. We could post and see if someone wants to take over, but I'm guessing we'd have few takers.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Round 4 status:

AC 17, touch 17, flat-footed 14
Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +1
CMD 13
HP 17/20
Bombs 1/4
Effects: Cover?

The lack of return fire worries Louly, though the group all standing together is too tempting a target for her to resist -- she feels bad about possibly killing these folks, but if it's kill or be killed, she knows which she'll choose.

Mixing together a few chemicals from her pouch, she tosses a steaming beaker at one of the other men, knowing the explosion could leave the people around him with bad burns of their own.

Mechanics:

Bomb, -2 for range: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16; Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
(4 splash damage / Reflex save DC 14 for half)

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Just FYI, I will likely be away through Sunday...

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Round 3

Status:

AC 17, touch 17, flat-footed 14
Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +1
CMD 13
HP 17/20
Bombs 0/4
Effects: Cover?

Louly pops back up for a second as she reloads, sending a bolt flying across the water between the two shops before ducking back behind the railing.

Mechanics:

Crossbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Three potential crits? Maybe I should've shot instead of had my healing potion...

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Round 2

Status:

AC 17, touch 17, flat-footed 14
Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +1
CMD 13
HP 11/20
Bombs 0/4
Effects: Cover?

"Ow!" Louly's eyes fill briefly with tears as the pain runs through her body.

Ducking behind the railing of the ship, she quickly downs her healing draught, sighing in relief as the wound begins to knit closed.

CLW 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Quick stats:

AC 13, touch 13, flat-footed 10
Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +1
CMD 13
HP 20/20
Bombs 0/4
Effects:

Feeling a twinge of misgiving -- I'd rather be shooting some of the people on this boat! They at least deserve it -- Louly channels her emotion into a void, picturing a burning candle flame devouring any distractions, as her father taught her. She quickly sights through the fog, gently squeezing the trigger on the crossbow.

Her heart seems to skip a beat as she sees her bolt slam into one of the enemy sailors' heads. I think he fell; I wonder if he's dead. I'm not sure if I've ever actually killed anyone before.

Mechanics:

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Crossbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Crit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Crit damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

If we had time, Louly would have prepared her two extracts -- CLW and enlarge person

Wouldn't it make more sense to just subdue the guards? Louly thinks as a surge of excitement and shiver of fear go through her. She checks her pistol and alchemical supplies, making sure her own armor is on tight, as she gets ready.

I've forgotten; was The Man's Promise a slaver?

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

"I don't know how to get the pigs to go where I want, Fishguts!" Louly says with exasperation.

"I hope you know how, Owlbear," she says as she leans down to fiddle with the lock, grinning up at the big man as it gives way to her prodding.

Disable Device, -2 for no tools: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 - 2 = 20
Does he have any weapon? if not, she'll grab one of the hatchets she found when she first arrived in the galley way back when and hand it to him.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Can I free Owlbear?

"Why does he want pigs on deck?!"

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Baffled at what she's supposed to do, Louly rushes to the galley.

"Fishguts, the captain says he wants pigs on the deck! Three of them!"

Her voice makes it clear that she's baffled as to why he would want such a thing, much less how she's supposed to accomplish it.

Diplomacy? 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Ah, there's that dice roller that I so love.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Grabbing her gear, Louly races up to the deck, looking around, as her heart beats furiously!

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Did Louly's actions count as her nighttime action? I assumed they did, but don't want to hold things up in case they didn't.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Burning as much from anger as from the whipping, Louly will head to her quarters while others are getting their rum, searching to see if they did indeed leave the supposedly stolen silver figurine in her gear. If so, she'll try to find someplace she can hide it quickly.

They want to go to so much trouble, it'll cost them, she thinks to herself as she whips up a second healing draught of the day, to cure the welts on her back.

She seems far more chipper as dinner. "It's a shame we have such a poor supper tonight. Perhaps it makes more sense to have Fishguts' helper actually working on dinner instead of cleaning out bilges and being flogged for something she didn't do," she says, loudly enough that some of the perhaps undecided members of the crew might hear reason.

Diplomacy? 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Nighttime action: Sneak? Stealth check if needed? 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Louly smirks as her adversaries at least are forced to get the same punishment she does.

"Let's hope you're not too weak because of your last orders to survive this," she mutters to Patch as she moves into position. "Be a shame if your friends got you killed because you're too stupid to know who's trying to help."

Louder, as she walks to the mast, she calls out, "You all know I didn't do this. Heck, I don't even know if they bothered to actually put this silver in my gear or not, since no one apparently checked, but I guess we're not going to bother with those little details. Just mete out the whippings for Scourge's sick pleasure. Remember, Fipps and Narwhal could do this to you next!"

Remind me, how many games of mine are you playing in? Don't think I won't thank you later, sir. *evil grin*

Oh, and depending how all this turns out, I think it might be time to start settling accounts. Louly's about done being nice to the people on this boat and I think it might be about time for Fipps and Jape to go for a long swim...

Hmm, I might have to take advantage of the scrum if we ever get into a good ship battle. If they keep trying to kill me, revenge isn't necessarily a non-good act, is it?

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

OK, back now from NYC and getting caught up.

"I went below twice today, both at Scourge's orders," Louly replies, casting a quick glance at Ravens.

Is he siding with Scourge and trying to get me in trouble, or he just sun addled? Can't tell, but can't worry about it now...

Her eyes narrow to slits as her gaze turns to Fipps.

"The first was indeed to get food for Ravens and Dorin, and plenty of people saw me the whole time.

"Then I went down with Moon and Patch and Fipps' friend, Jape, to clean the bilges. I wasn't going to say anything, because some of us don't squeal like a pig whenever there's a problem" -- her steady glare at her two accusers makes it obvious who she's talking about -- "but Jape wasn't down there working for a bit. That's how Patch got hurt, and we had a long talk when he returned to work about what would happen if he tried to shirk his duty again. I can't rightly say exactly what he was doing while he wasn't cleaning the bilges, but maybe that's where Narwhal's silver got to?

"We all know how much he and Fipps like each other -- barely see the two apart -- so maybe he's just trying to cover for his ... friend, eh?" The pause intimates the relationship between the two is a bit more than friendship.

Diplomacy? 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Intimidate? 1d20 ⇒ 8
Bluff? 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Not sure which it would be, but I guess the dice roller doesn't really care...

And that's not helping, Ravens.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Just FYI, I'll likely be offline through Monday.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

I don't think that's diplomacy...

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

"We seem to be in a rush," Louly mutters, to her friends around her. "I wonder where we're going."

Louly waits to see what happens -- though she palms her mutagen, knowing she's not going to let herself be punished for defending herself -- and keeps her mouth shut. She knows she's as likely to get herself in trouble again as to help. Moon's the talker, after all. Hopefully he can handle this.

Aid another: Moon Diplomacy, if he tries something (+3 more if it's Bluff): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

He's had a couple other absences, but this one's definitely getting long. I'm still hoping he returns, but after this long, I'm certainly not confident he will, unfortunately. He did mention in his last post he was having RL issues.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

It sounds like he's planning to come back, so personally, I'm not giving up yet, though that may just be me.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

"You may not want to go down there anytime soon," Louly announces to anyone watching. "It seems there was something in the bilges that tried to sink its teeth into us. I think it's learned its lesson, but who knows if there are more, or if they could come on deck.

She glances briefly at Patch and Jape as she talks, then glances over toward Scourge, before looking around the deck to see how the rest of the crew are reacting, especially those who don't seem to be connected to either side of the rapidly widening schism on the boat.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

"Just Tavey and dat Meravanchi prick's servant. He said 'his highness'," -- the scorn for the nobleman is clear in her voice -- "wanted some extra spice for his dish."

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

"What? Dere is no poison here! Look around all you want. Why would I poison anyone?"

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Louly looks around at the scene on the deck.

"Is there a problem?" she asks.

Was there a fight up here too?

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

The Mwangi woman jumps up from where she was eating her supper in shock as Silvio bursts in ahead of Zstelian and Khazmia.

"What de hell are you talking about?" she asks. "Dis is good food, not poison!"

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Louly rolls her eyes. "Fine, I suppose I already knew anyway. I'm sure he'll reward you well for your dismal failure down here, but I suppose a cur doesn't care if its master kicks it a few times.

"Now I think I've had about enough of these bilges, and certainly the rats down here. If we're down, I'm ready to go back topside. I'm sure Owlbear will be interested to hear about the day's events."

When she returns topside, Louly will keep a close eye on Plugg and Scourge's reaction to her and Moon's return.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Louly snorts and rolls her eyes at Patch. "You're as deaf as you are dumb. You were the ones that attacked us. We could've easily finished you off if we wanted, but we've already said we're not going to if you don't make us. Now why don't you tell us who pulls your strings so we know for sure who our real enemy is?"

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Louly will wait as Jape does her work in cleaning the bilges, keeping an eye on him even as she mixes up her second set of reagents into a second healing extract, though she holds off on drinking it for the moment. Much as it would be nice to stop the pain from her remaining wounds, they might need that proof that they were also attacked.

"Well, Jape, how do you want to handle this?" she asks as they finish the work and prepare to return to the deck.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

"Well, it's a shame that rat attacked us while we were cleaning the bilges. Next time you'll have to try not to be so clumsy and hit her when you try to kill it, Jape. Right? Now I don't think the rest of the bilges will clean themselves."

Intimidate? 1d20 ⇒ 17
Wow, die roller is suddenly favoring me.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

"Keep your eye on him, Moon," Louly says, as she leans down to tend to the halfling, binding her wounds with strips ripped from the woman's own clothing. "This should keep her alive, at least."

Once finished, she'll wave Moon over. "Make sure I did it right?" she says out loud, whispering to her companion, "You might want to check, see if she has anything on her that indicates who sent them after us. Or anything else she could cut herself on again."

Standing up, she'll drink her prepared healing extract, keeping her eye on Jape.

Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

That's two rounds of action, I suppose.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Sure.

Louly sees the halfling collapse and shifts her gaze to Jape. "It's up to you. Swear you won't stand against us ever again, and we'll save your friend. Otherwise, it's now two of us against one and we'll leave you both for the fishes."

Taking a ready action to pull and throw a dagger if he doesn't surrender: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4

Quick stats:

AC 13, touch 13, flat-footed 10
Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +1
CMD 13
HP 12/20
Bombs 1/4
Effects:

Louly winces at the new cut, her wounds starting to get the better of her. She was hoping she'd be able to finish this without killing her foes -- that could just make things worse -- but if it's kill or be killed, then damn the consequences. She'll worry about them later.

"Who wants us dead, Patch? We'll make sure to give your body to him when this is over."

Assuming Moon didn't finish her off with the sneak attack
The Mwangi woman swings wildly at the halfling, serving more effectively as a distraction to leave her open for Moon than an actual combatant. She curses again as the hafling easily ducks under her club.

Standard action: Club (with flanking): 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 = 7

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

How much damage did I take?

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Quick stats:

AC 13, touch 13, flat-footed 10
Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +1
CMD 13
HP 9/20
Bombs 1/4
Effects:

Wincing at the pain, Louly tries to edge around Patch, putting the treacherous halfing between herself and Moon. Pulling a club, she swipes at her foe, trying to keep the woman's attention on herself instead of Moon.

"What should we tell the captain happened to them after we dispose of their bodies, Moon?" she asks, hoping to give their enemies some second thoughts, though she's still not sure if they're actually trying to kill her or just rough her up.

Mechanics:

Move: Five foot step to try to edge around Patch
Standard: Club, with flanking (-2 if I couldn't get flanking): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Moon, if you hold until I go, you can factor in a sneak attack in that hit. That could end this right now.

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Sense motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Well, at least I got the bad rolls out of the way quickly.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

"Hey, he's doing as much as you are, Patch. Let's just get this done and then we can all be away from each other and this stench!"

Diplomacy 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Louly gags at the smell hits her but grits her teeth as she moves into the bilges. Oddly, the odor seems to lend her strength, as she tries to finish quickly.

A glance at her two companions -- at least one of whom has proven to be unfriendly so far -- gives her a moment's pause as she notices the daggers at their belt. She takes a moment to nudge Moon, nodding in their direction to point them out. Not sure if I need a roll to do this subtly

Taking a quick break, she figures it can't hurt to try to discern their motives: Just the usual precautions or are they planning to try to get rid of some feverthorns in Scourge's side.

"What'd you two do to ebd up ib here?" she asks, doing her best not to breath through her nose. Great, if they weren't going to attack before, they will now...

Strength: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Sense motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Louly's heart beats a bit faster at the thought of real pirate action. Hopefully no one needs to die, but this is how her father -- well, her blood father, at least -- had made his name. She wasn't going to prove herself cooking dishes and killing crabs.

She smirks as Fipps dodges around Owlbear, but her smile quickly turns into a groan as she learns she has to work in the bilges.

"Well, if I'm working in the bilges, I can hardly get you dinner now, can I? Be a shame if some bilgewater ended up in your and Scourge's dishes."

Let me know what rolls you need.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Louly listens closely, hoping Dorin and Ravens' tales grow more exciting.

"Is that it?" she says, disappointedly.

I was hoping for last survivors of a wreck or something, maybe with some magical coin that was handed down by their father...

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

"Um, you can chew, you know. No one's going to take it away from you," Louly says as the two newcomers tuck into the food.

She's surprised to see she cares what people think about her cooking ... even if Fishguts was mostly responsible for preparing this meal.

Bump

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Assuming Scourge is satisfied...

Louly leads Ravens and Dorin downstairs. "That's Owlbear," she says, gesturing to the man -- who'd clearly been tarred and feathered at some point -- bound to the mast. "Owlbear, this is Ravens and, um, his friend. We just rescued them from the ocean!"

She continues into the kitchen, introducing Fishguts. "So do we have any food we can give them before dinner," she asks, already reaching for some hardtack biscuits.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

"What happened to the horse?" Louly asks, seemingly fascinated by Ravens' story.

"I don't think they have any special reason to want to kill us. They're just dragon dung. They don't appreciate that some of us seem to be able to think for ourselves and can envision a different way of running things on the Wormwood." She says the last part quietly, not quite willing to risk being overheard yet by potentially unfriendly ears.

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

"I've heard of Brevoy but that's pretty far away. I don't think he's going to catch you in the middle of the sea. What'd you do to upset him?"

"Plugg is friends with Scourge -- the guy who met you when you got on the boat -- and none of them are very nice. I suppose you could avoid me, but then you wouldn't get food and Scourge and Plugg and the rest of them wouldn't not want to hurt you all of a sudden."

Female Human Alchemist (beastmorph) 1 / Gunslinger 1

Sorry for the delay; got caught up in dealing with Connecticut-related stuff at work. After whatever happens with Plugg ...

"Oh, right. Sorry! I'm Louly, Louly a'Maris."

"I haven't seen anyone chasing you, I don't think," -- Is he not right in the head? -- "but I've been on the boat since they picked me up in Port Peril. Kehlysch is the one talking to you. He also got picked up there, along with Moon and a couple others. We've kind of looked out for each other, since Plugg and his cronies seem like they'd be just as happy to kill us as anything else."
