Special Abilities:

------------------------------
SPECIAL ABILITIES
------------------------------
Intimidating Half-orcs receive a +2 racial bonus on Intimidate checks due to their fearsome nature.

Sacred Tattoo Many half-orcs decorate themselves with tattoos, piercings, and ritual scarification, which they consider sacred markings. Half-orcs with this racial trait gain a +1 luck bonus on all saving throws. This racial trait replaces orc ferocity.

Darkvision Half-orcs can see in the dark up to 60 feet.

Orc Blood Half-orcs count as both humans and orcs for any effect related to race.

Pirate You gain a +1 trait bonus on Knowledge (geography) checks and Profession (sailor) checks, and one of these skills becomes a class skill for you.

Besmara's Blessing You gain a +1 trait bonus on Perception and Profession (sailor) checks. In addition, once per week you can reroll a Profession (sailor) check and take the higher result (you must announce that you are using this ability before the results of the check are known).

Marine Terror A sea reaver can hold her breath for a number of rounds equal to four times her Constitution score. In addition, a sea reaver can move normally though squares of standing water or bog that is 1 foot deep. It does not cost her extra movement to traverse these terrains. Lastly, a sea reaver ignores the normal cover bonus to AC when attacking creatures that are partially immersed in water.

Rage (12/12) A barbarian can enter rage as a free action. The total number of rounds of rage per day is renewed after resting for 8 hours, although these hours do not need to be consecutive. While in rage, a barbarian gains a +4 morale bonus to her Strength and Constitution, as well as a +2 morale bonus on Will saves. In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. The increase to Constitution grants the barbarian 2 hit points per Hit Dice, but these disappear when the rage ends and are not lost first like temporary hit points. While in rage, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration. A barbarian can end her rage as a free action and is fatigued after rage for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rounds spent in the rage. A barbarian cannot enter a new rage while fatigued or exhausted but can otherwise enter rage multiple times during a single encounter or combat. If a barbarian falls unconscious, her rage immediately ends, placing her in peril of death.

Superstition The barbarian gains a +2 morale bonus on saving throws made to resist spells, supernatural abilities, and spell-like abilities. This bonus increases by +1 for every 4 levels the barbarian has attained. While raging, the barbarian cannot be a willing target of any spell and must make saving throws to resist all spells, even those cast by allies.

Eyes of the Storm At 2nd level, a sea reaver ignores any concealment provided by fog, rain, sleet, mist, wind, or other weather effects that is less than total concealment, and any penalties weather applies on Perception checks are halved.

Savage Sailor At 3rd level, a sea reaver gains a +1 bonus on Acrobatics, Climb, Profession (sailor), Survival, and Swim checks made in aquatic terrain, including aboard a ship or along shorelines. These bonuses improve by +1 every three levels after 3rd.

Elemental Rage, Lesser As a swift action, the barbarian can cause her melee attacks to deal an additional 1d6 points of energy damage (acid, cold, electricity, or fire) for 1 round. This power can only be used once per rage.

Background:

Logen was born the bastard son of an Orc pirate captain and a human bartender by the name of Indah at Bloodcove. His father Bojrak and the rest of his crew had only spent a night to get supplies, but he spent it with Indah before departing the next morning.

Logen grew up mostly alone in the harsh city, his mother working hard to keep food on the table. He never went hungry though, as the old salts of the sea always had an approving grunt and some bread for the son of a respected pirate captain. It wasn't long until he grew old enough to work and hold his own. He caught the eye of younger and aspiring pirates and got into more than one brawl on the docks. He got a quick reputation of rarely losing too. One of the most common things they said about Logen was "He has his father's strength, but his temper and looks too."

When Logen came of age he jumped onto the first ship that would take him. His mother just gave him her blessing and her mother's old necklace of Besmara for luck, knowing she had no way of stopping the pirate's blood in him. After a few months of changing hands between different crews, Logen's fierce temper and avarice for leadership gave him a new reputation. He was either going to get his own ship or get himself killed.

After some time he settled as the first mate on the ship of Captain Vengarl. The other half-orc was every bit as fierce as Logen and gave the kid a lesson about earning his place. He's who taught Logen everything he knows about pirating, and a good deal about the world too. Captain Vengarl was the closest thing to a father Logen ever had.

The crew was docked at Senghor to make repairs to the boat and they had a couple days they were going to be stuck there. It was during this time that law-keepers who had a warrant for Vengarl's arrest managed to track him down to the city. The tavern they were sleeping in was raided loudly, waking everybody up to the sounds of pounding boots and cries for the surrender of Captain Vengarl. Logen jumped up and grabbed his sword, and a moment later Vengarl burst in through the door, crossing to Logen. "Are you ready to defend your captain, son?" Logen nodded, his blood boiling away his sleepiness. Vengarl nodded, urging Logen outside. He stepped out, ready to battle for the lives of his crew and captain.

"There he is, that's the Captain!" One of Logen's crew mates was pointing right at him. They all sat back and watched as Logen futilely tried to fight off a dozen lawmen. He realized with horror that as the only other half-orc on the crew, he was being used as a scapegoat. He was dragged away in chains, shouting back "I'll gut you for this you yellow-bellied traitor!"

Logen was chained for several days in a musty cell, brooding and raging away at his fate. He tried several times to escape, but jumping on the guard delivering meals was a poor plan. It was only a day till his trial (and inevitable hanging) when Logen was shaken out of his haze by the sound of a pained grunt. He looked up to see a lithe figure in all black standing over the body of a guard. The figure leaned down, slipping off the keys and began unlocking Logen's cell. Logen looked at him suspiciously, then asked "Why would you help me?" The person sharply looked up, showing pale violet eyes. "Because I have a debt to settle with Captain Vengarl. And you are not him. I would not see the hunt called off due to a false conviction." Logen was left more confused, but had no objections to being sprung. He made himself scarce until he could get on a boat and quickly escaped the city.

Appearance and Personality:

Logen is a brawny half-orc with ashy grey-green skin and a bald head. His ears take after his human side, but his flat sharp-nostrilled nose and sharp lower canine teeth take after his father. His eyes are a mix, colored a brownish-red, small for a human but large for a half-orc. Scars cross up and down his arms and across his chest, the most impressive ones being a jagged zigzag from his head to his right cheek and a thick line between his collarbone and throat.

Logen is a fiery individual who lives life in the moment. He makes friends fast, enemies faster, and never lets an opportunity for money, women, or fighting pass him by. He has a not-so-quiet contempt for authorities, but has a small respect for people in it who only want to protect the weak. While he's an outlaw who raids and steals for a living he rarely steals from those that already have little and only does enough killing to get his point across. Not necessarily merciful or kind, but not cruel either.
