Very, very, very sorry to see you go, but I respect your decision. And appreciate like you can only imagine your taking the time to be up front and let us know what the situation is. I've been in games that were just abandoned, even by the DM, and it's no fun checking and checking and checking to see if there's any life, only to have to give up and walk away. I was looking forward to the adventures of Livvy and her gnoll companion for a long time to come... Take your time, but if you decide to start back up, I'd be willing. Enjoy the time with those children, you only get this once.
"A wait is good. We can heal up," xhe gives Rova a significant look, "and we can watch them to see their patterns better. They might get bored and fall back to normal routine if they think we gave up and moved on." Looking around, she adds, "But we will need a more defensible camp than the cave. With time today, we should be able to prepare one, right, Shimei?"

Livvy packs quickly, still more than a little concerned about Rova's wounds, but she does her best to keep up with the others and keep her eyes open for threats as the party follows Shimei. Perception Rolls, if needed: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Erizi, fighter that you are, even you cannot just walk into the village and expect to win it. There needs to be some thought beforehand - and neither of us are well-suited to such. Shimei, Nombir, Zaid, what do you suggest?" She's going to act like all is decided to join forces for the moment. On another tack - what's our actual assignment from the lady? Does she expect us to scout the town, or clear it out? I've lost track in all the drama...

Livvy stands and bows. "Thank you, Shimei. I did not bring him, that was the workings of another. But I have accepted him."
I was well aware of the irony of Livvy standing up for him, but had missed the significance to Erizi. What beautiful irony! I can't help it -- Livvy's heart is bigger than she is! "Rova wishes to prove himself - to Erizi and to the rest of us. He has not asked to fight at anyone's back. He wishes to prove himself a warrior deserving of our respect. If he must go it alone, so be it - I think his actions last night have earned him his freedom if not our trust." Too quiet for the gladiator to hear, she adds, Spoiler: "I never intended to make you fight alongside him, Erizi. I thought Rova and I could create a distraction to help the party succeed. If I misjudged, it would only affect me that way..."
Livvy whispers back in Gnoll. Spoiler:
"He not want to like you because you are gnoll. I not want to like you because you gnoll, but I like you, anyway. You not go anywhere yet. Lay down, rest more." Louder, she says, "I have plenty of reason to hate gnolls. If not for them, this land would be my birthright and I would not be coming here as a stranger. But I have met civilized gnolls in the cities - and wanted to hate them very much - and found that in their hearts, they are much like us. Some are noble, some are arrogant and rude, some are kind, some are violent. Some have escaped their pack when the opportunity presented itself because they were living a lie. Some have indentured themselves to their rescuers in gratitude for having a better pack to join. "Rova hunted down our attackers and nearly died trying to prevent them from reporting us to a second tribe in the valley. We would have been caught between the two rather than surprising the one that occupies the town. It was something he did not need to do, but it was something he did for our pack. He was trying to impress you - he sees you as the leader of this pack. "He is not stupid - if he wanted engineer our doom, he could have easily done so last night. He could certainly have killed me, but I trusted him. He's another good swordarm willing to aid our cause and I think he's proven his loyalty, as have all of us. Please look past his skin."
@Rova: "Three Jaws - is that another tribe? You kept the patrol from returning to the tribe and telling them about us?" At Erizi's outburst, Livvy sighs, hanging her head, but she looks up again. "Let us check his story before you rush off. Better that you know if you are walking into an encampment that is expecting you because their patrol reported that a party of light-lovers camps in the desert. You may not care for us anymore, but we wish to see you succeed. Shimei, do you agree? Can we follow Rova's back trail to where he was wounded?"
"That reminds me. We will need to get some more water before long, won't we, Shimei?" She addresses the gnoll sternly. In Gnoll:
Spoiler:
"You scared me - where did you go? What happened to you? They all want to know if you can be trusted and you run off without explanation..." Then her voice softens, her concern showing. In Gnoll:
Spoiler:
"Here is some water. We need to be careful that we don't use it all before we find more." Livvy doles out a mouthful of the precious fluid to the gnoll, then a second.

PHB 3.5, p.32 -- I just figured this was a house rule for our DM. Speaking of which, my poor little arcanist - did she get enough rest to recharge? I forget and I didn't find it in a quick scan back through the thread.
"He has not awakened yet. He looks like he was in a fight with at least two foes - here's a sword or axe wound, this on his head looks like a club strike. I've stopped the bleeding, I think. Can you - would you - or Nombir use your god's blessing to provide healing - Erizi and Rova both could use it." As could some others, I believe...
Having tended to the gnoll as best her meager abilities allow, Livvy will concentrate on watching the surrounding countryside for more of the hyena-men. She will try to stay out of sight if there's any brush to break up her profile while she keeps watch. She will wait for one of the others to join her to make a report. She certainly cannot move the gnoll herself. Stealth 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Livvy stops and stares, eyes wide as realization hits. She rushes over to the gnoll. Gnoll:

"He didn't kill me. He actually helped me up to that point. He got the sword, we got some information. He could have called the others in or captured me easily. I'm a little confused as to his motivations at the moment. I just know we could not stay in the cave -- too many gnolls were aware of us and Rova's knowledge made it that much more dangerous."
Shimei of Merraketh wrote: "No, you stay in the middle. Norn and Erizi lead. What happened with Rova?" She shrugs, "I don't know. He said nothing, and he did not attack me, but he took off after you fired your bow. Not that I think your shot away from us had anything to do with it, but that's when he ran away. Toward Kellermane." She pauses, "I know you cannot trust them, and yet... I wanted to trust him. Now I'm just mad at him."
Livvy's lights illuminate the area for a bit before she returns to the cave. "The gnolls seem to be gone." With a weary nod at Erizi, she adds, "All of them." "Shimei is right - if he leads the others back, he knows our group better than any other." Looking at Erizi again, "If we see him again, there will be no hesitation - if you don't beat me to it, I'll kill him myself." Listening to Shimei's plan, she adds, "Without Rova's eyes, I'm little use to sneak in front. I don't want to give away our position with my lights... but Rova was my error, I will lead if you feel that is best. Maybe with Norn?"
Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 ouch FW:
Spoiler: To be clear, Rova took off running back in the direction the gnoll party came from? Or the direction that our party came from? In other words, does it appear that he's using this as an opportunity to return to Kellermane? (forgive the spelling, please)
Sense Motive is probably appropriate 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Erizi, Shimei: Spoiler:
Livvy whispers again, "Well done. I will send my lights out, too, to see if more are out there." FW:
Spoiler: I don't know if they hear all her whispers or just what she intends to send.
Whispering to the gnoll, "Rova, what do you see? Are there more out there? I'm going to bring up torches like those over there -- if you've seen or heard something, I will send them toward it." She will bring up the torches thirty feet from their position, toward the last known position of the gnolls unless Rova gives her a different location. She intends to keep them low to the ground and avoid the known positions of allies, moving them gradually around the hill until she or Rova see a target.
Shimei, Erizi, FW:
Spoiler: Sorry, yes, Livvy is whispering to both Shimei and Erizi via Message and no, I don't know that either target is going to realize what's happening. (Erizi, please see Livvy's spoiler for Shimei a bit earlier - I thought it was a single-target spell and that you were out of sight in the darkness, but I was incorrect, so I would have worded it slightly different to include Erizi, also.)
Whispering again, "Yes, Shimei, it's Livvy. We are hiding on the other side of the big rocks from you. We can come to you. Erizi, are you wounded? You've done well, again."
FW:
Spoiler:
"Rova, keep down watch for the other gnolls. We wait here. Let me know what you see."
As quietly as she can, she will cast Message on Shimei. I believe from the description Erizi is no longer visible, anyway. Shimei:
Spoiler: You hear a whisper as though the halfling had come right up behind you without you hearing, "Shimei. This is Livvy. Rova and I are on the far side of the rocks. We may be able to coordinate through my spell - do you have a plan? I think we will have trouble killing them off, but we might be able to convince them they are in for a bigger fight than they expected."
FW:
Spoiler: I have to say, this is being beautifully done, sir. I suspect that I know what's about as a player, but the mystery, the lack of confidence, makes the image so compelling. Bravo!

Does Rova have an initiative roll yet? "I have to agree with Erizi. I don't want to start a protracted battle in a hole. We need it at our backs and we can retreat into it, but we need to make them pay for that retreat. Rova, it's time to prove your allegiance to the pack. My pack. Come with me. Quietly." After noting which way Norn disappeared, Livvy opts to move stealthily out of the cave in the opposite direction. Noting where Erizi is as best she can and listening for threats, she will prepare to conjure up some Dancing Lights. Whispering, "Rova, now we hunt. Quietly, where are they? Where would you expect them to be?" With her speed and moving stealthily, she can't be far from the cave entrance. Stealth 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 At the sound of the javelins clattering to the ground, Livvy murmurs, "Uh-oh, you knocked over the woodpile! Now we have to pick them all up again!" With Erizi's shout, she comes to, but it still takes her a moment to shake the dream and realize where she is and the danger they must be in. No first-level spells, but cantrips are still available, yes?
The stony look on her face softens into a shy smile when she realizes Shimei's not here to yell at her again. She whispers, "I was so scared," her voice rising to a more normal tone as it speeds up, "I knew in my heart that my flame was the right weapon, but it takes a moment to bring it to hand, and they had gotten into the cave and the first flames didn't kill enough of them and and ... and then I had it, I was in the right place to miss everyone else, and it worked." Eyes bright even in the starlight, she looks at Shimei and repeats it with intensity, "It worked! No one else was burned and the spiders were gone!" Calming back down, she puts a tiny hand on the scout's. "You did no harm in raising your voice. I did not want to harm you or the others, but if I had to do a little harm to avoid the spiders doing greater harm... I had already made up my mind. You're welcome - because I believe you would do the same for me. Get some more sleep, my friend." Livvy's pretty keyed up after the spider invasion. She doesn't sit down for the rest of her shift, shifting from foot to foot in her hiding place in the shadows.
Shimei of Merraketh wrote: "May a hundred ravens feast on your beating heart! You could have burned me!" Livvy sticks out her tongue. "Indeed, I could have. But I didn't. And if I had, it would have been a small price to pay to avoid being eaten by spiders one little nibble at a time." She crosses her arms across her tiny chest and stands her ground defiantly as Shimei moves past her out of the cave. "Unfortunately, that's all the energy I have for such magic for a while. If more spiders come, we need to have an alternative. Perhaps we do need to have a fire... Can we put one far enough back in the cave so that it is not visible from afar?" She looks at the depth of the cave and at the others for suggestions. Survival 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Oh, it's good to have everyone back after the holidays. I've missed you guys. We seem to be going a bit free-form, so I'm not sure if it's Livvy's next go yet or not. If it is: Spoiler: She will move to the edge of the swarm and burn as much of the swarm as possible, hopefully avoiding her friends -- but burning the swarm is more important.
