I am finally free of all of the courtiers, nobles, and hangers-on asking for my attention. I have hardly been installed as Queen of Korvosa and already I am being asked to consider forcibly bringing Magnimar back under "the protective wing of Korvosa". I pray for wisdom to navigate the dark waters ahead of me.
While I don't regret any of my actions, rebellion is never a matter to be taken lightly. While I am so proud of my countrymen for standing up to an evil tyrant, we need time to heal and reflect before embarking on aggressive acts. My companions and I also need time to heal and soothe our souls. The horrors we witnessed and faced will haunt us for the rest of our lives I think.
I already see my close band of companions starting to drift apart. Poor Nico was afflicted with several diseases from the Deck of Many Things we were handed. Luckily, Adhemar talked to him because my only option as Queen would be to banish him before he accidentally spread his afflictions through the city. I value Nico as a friend, and hope that he gets the healing he needs and can be a welcome guest in the city he helped to free. Adhemar's duties as Archbanker are keeping him busy. Destral is tasked with rebuilding the Sable Company and has at least a generations worth of work in front of her. Sionan, well hopefully she will let me know if I mess up to badly, but I know she is still uncomfortable here and with humans in general.
I pray for the wisdom to be a just and fair ruler so that I can heal this city of its' wounds, asking nothing for myself. By the Gods, may this be so.

The newly changed temple Iomedae is comforting. Brianna somehow took a dusty and forgotten temple to Aroden and changed it just by praying. I am still in awe and a state of bliss by the events. I had the feeling something strange was going to happen. Neolandis and I decided to talk over matters in the temple as it would be relatively quiet and semi-private. When various nobles and dear friends wandered in I know someone momentous was to happen. Everyone still seems stunned by what happened. Support for Neolandis' grand idea to instill me as Queen seems to be growing. I have accepted what is being asked of me, but I still don't like it. I can face down a dragon or the worst devil in hell without blinking, but the thought of being Queen makes me want to throw up still.....

"Iomedae,

Please grant us victory against the Queen. I ask not for myself, but for the people of Korvosa. They have suffered enough without being sacrificed to Ileosa's dreams of power. I will gladly give my life to defend my countrymen, and will not hesitate when the time comes. I offer you all that I am, and my life if need be, to protect the people of Korvosa. I thank you for the miracle I witnessed as it has given me further strength and resolve to see this through to the end no matter what. I humbly ask for your strength and grace to be with me in the final battle"

I fear I have been remiss in chronicling our further efforts. I don’t feel like I have had a chance to catch my breath in recent days, never mind trying to find time to write down my thoughts.
Thankfully, most of our dear allies were alive and well when we returned to the city, but they did have a laundry list of tasks that needed to get down in order to overthrow the Queen. There was a fake hero running around “defending” the people from the rebel scum in the name of the Queen. Some hero, he was actually an efreet serving the Queen. Sabina Merrin, head of the Grey Maidens joined us shortly after our return to the city was announced by a large brawl involving us and several squads of Grey Maidens. She seems truly repentant of her past actions and has aided us greatly.
I am still trying to figure out why I was nominated for the promotion that several people seem to want to hand me. Have they all gone mad? Neolandus and the others want me to become Queen when all is said and done. Seriously? I am sure that there are much better options than me around. I have accepted this after much prayer and counsel with Iomedae. I can only hope to live up to everyone’s expectations. The only part of this that is still troubling is the matter of succession. To ensure succession I have to produce an heir. That means getting married. While I am not opposed to the idea, the thought of finding someone that I loved as much of Andros is troubling. How do I give my heart again when for a long time it was buried. In addition, how can I know that the person loves me and not my position? I will leave the matter in Iomedae’s hands.
We managed to infiltrate the castle and started “evicting” the residents. A powerful devil almost killed Sionan. Luckily, Adhemar risked live and limb to breath life back into her body. Thank God. She followed me up onto the roof where the devil was and almost died because of it. Poor Horkin did not survive the battle. Destral has been despondent over the loss of her beloved companion.
We managed to get the door open to our allies while cleaning up the rest of the castle’s defenders. Sabina led the few former Grey Maidens in to find and kill Torgormor. His cries are still echoing in the castle. As we catch our breath, we are preparing to explore the lower levels of the castle to hopefully find any trace of our dear friend Dhavti and find the body of the ghost in the attic. What horrors still await us in this place?

We have made it back to Korvosa, the city is truly suffering under the boot of a tyrant. We met with Kroft and the other rebels and were given a list of matters that needed our attention in order to give the rebellion a chance at success. Our first move will be to draw out this "hero" running around Korvosa. Sionan has volunteered to take of this with the rest of us waiting nearby just in case. While Zellara's house remains safe, for this operation we are using my parent's house as a hiding spot as this will leave Zellara's as a bolt hole.

Our band has increased by one it seems. Little Brianna Soldato has been touched by the spirit of Iomedae. While meeting with the Shoanti, her presence was announced to his by Trinia. After much thought and prayer I agreed that she could come with us (she was going to go no matter what I think), as at least this way I can keep an eye on her and try to keep her out of harm's way. While she is full of zeal, she is still a little girl. When we got back to Korvosa, I left her in the care of her uncle, Grau. He was less than pleased over her presence. I told Brianna that she could be of more use helping coordinate between the rebels, and acting as a messenger and unnoticeable agent. Iomedae, keep her safe.

Scarwall has been cleansed of the pervading evil that was set into it's very stones. While I am glad that we were successful, my thoughts turn back to what awaits us in Korvosa and our confrontation with the Queen. For too long, she has been left to her plans. I can only hope that our friends are well and safe.

As we finish resupplying, it is now time to plan to take back our home. We need to meet up with Vencarlo and Neolandis, as well as find the Shaonti. It would not do to have uncontrolled armies marching on the city haphazardly without guidance, leadership, and a plan of action. At the very least, the forces gathered will at least cause a distraction hopefully allowing us to gain a quick and quiet entrance into the city to strike directly at the Queen's forces.

My friends keep looking to me for plans, and I feel that I am in over my head here, but with the grace and wisdom of the Gods we may yet be successful.

Well, Scarwall still is a horrific place and I can't wait to be done here, but Serithtial is making it a bit easier to dispatch the restless undead here. We managed to destroy a demilich which was no small feat, but luckily we got the drop on it. The creature was another one of the anchors and the evil that overshadows this place has noticeably lessened some more. I think I can sense evil again without my brain wanting to leak out my ears.....

We have fallen back to rest up as the past day has been trying and has left our resources scant and depleted. Sionan keeps murmuring about being hungry as well.

As much danger as we are in, I can't but help worry about the friends and allies we left behind in Korvosa. Every day that passes is another day the Ileosa/Kazavon has to tighten it's foul grip on the city and inflict more torment and pain. Hopefully, we can clear this place out in another day or two and be on our way.

Sial and Laori have left our company for now. After further exploration of Scarwall, we gained entry into the Star Tower thanks to Sionan's skill at getting into places that we shouldn't. A strange entity greeted us and explained that with the death of the former Curate, this tower, one of the stitches holding Rovagug in his prison was left weak and unguarded. A new curate would need to be named to rebuild the magic of the lock. Sial and Laori fell to bickering over who was the more faithful follower of Zon-Kuthon. They both looked to the rest of us to pick a side, but it is not my fight or place to decide who was the "better evil". Sial won the confrontation, and Laori for the first time looked generally scared. I felt bad for her, but would not intervene as she has never shown the hint of wanting redemption for her evil ways. The creature took Laori for judgment and invited Sial to come along and meet his God face to face.... Sial made some parting quips to us all- nothing we haven't heard before and left. The creature then told us that the sword, Serithtial lay in a cavern below the tower and that we were free to retrieve it if we could get past it's guardian- a Child of Rovagug. It is such a relief to be free from the company of those two that I will admit that Sial's spellcasting prowess will be missed.

Getting into the cavern involved jumping down into this strange blue lit shaft.. for once I landed on my feet but others did not fare so well with the jump. We were attacked by these strange monsters which Niko identified as Gugs shortly before the attempted to rip him limb from limb- I guess I need to explain to him why someone in robes doesn't charge ahead......
After defeating the Gugs, we saw a light shining across a lake on an island, but I also sensed a great evil stirring in the water. I tested out my new armor and began to fly out towards the light after warning everyone else to be ready. What came out of the water was a monstrous creature- part man, part worm, part I know what not. The fight with the creature left us beaten and bruised, but successful. When I reached the light I saw a sword. It's light grew brighter as I approached. I also heard triumphant singing coming from the sword, no one else claims to have heard it though. As I pulled the sword from the stone it was placed in, some of my wounds were healed by the sword itself as some intelligence in the sword let me know it's purpose. Strangely enough, the sword changed from a greatsword into a long sword. The singing has continued but I am getting used to it, and it is comforting after all that has happened. Serithtial seems pleased to be free of its prison and seems to understand my thoughts of what awaits in Korvosa, assuming we make it out of Scarwall alive. I thank Iomadae for this great gift and a chance to free Korvosa from the clutches of Kazavon and Ileosa.

Scarwall..... I have never felt such palpable evil in my life as I did when we enter this accursed place. Each room seems to hold a new horror. Besides the countless skeletons, so far we have faced down a dragon of a type I have never heard of, and the shadows that almost cost us Adhemar. Luckily, Sial managed to bring him back to life. While I still don't trust or like Sial, he has lived up to his word so far. My one concern is that we are running out of time... Zolara's spirit was someone merged into the evil of this place when we arrived and our best guess is that unless we end the curse that hangs over this place, her soul will be lost forever. I hesitate to push my companions to move faster as being reckless will only get us all killed, but I can's stand that thought of Zolara's spirit being lost forever in this place. At least with the death of the dragon, the oppressive evil slightly lessened. The dragon must have been one of the guardians we were warned of. As we prepare to enter the second floor of the castle, I dread what new horrors we might find.

The information we received from the Sun Shaman is dire indeed.

Spoiler:
The Queen has been possessed by Kazavon.. a dragon warlord and favored of Zon'Kuthon. That truly explains why the Shadowcount has offered his aid. We head towards Scarwall to retrieve the sword that defeated Kazavon the first time around- Serithtial. If we are successful, this sword may be just what we need to end the Queen's evil reign and the free Korvosa. Laori showed back up also offering her help. The distaste between her and Sial is palpable and quite enjoyable for me to watch at times. While petty, I must admit that it serves both of them right. Sial's attentions towards me have been draining to say the least- it would be easier if I knew that he was just looking to sleep with me as distasteful as that thought is. Whatever happens between those two, I am staying out of it if possible.

On our journey, we freed a wizard from Lastwall named Niko who was captured by orcs. The poor barely survived his ordeal, but has agreed to aid us in Scarwall as thanks for his rescue. He seemed taken aback when he realized the different affiliations of his rescuers but I tried to explain things to the best of my ability.

Iomadae, please watch over us as we enter Scarwall and watch over our souls even more as we move ever slowly to the final confrontation with the Queen.

As I pen this entry, the sounds of celebration surround me. While the Shoanti celebrate our victory, I need to take a few moments to reflect and clear my head.

Spoiler:
We managed to get "reborn" as Shoanti. I think I will have nightmares for awhile about getting eaten by Cindermaw. If it wasn't for Adhemar's timely intervention, I would have died in that creature's stomach. That is one memory that I hope will fade quickly....
We passed the Trial to become named members of the Sun tribe. While physically tasking, the visions I saw strengthened my resolve to see this through to the end and get justice for Korvosa. The attack by the bullettes at least broke the monotony of the beating sun and the muscle pain of holding up the pillars....
As we recovered and waited for the Sun Shaman to commune with his ancestors, the camp was attacked by the Red Mantis assassins. This time one of their leaders as well as her recruited allies showed herself. She tried to convince the Shoanti to "hand us over", but our new brothers and sisters wanted to hear none of that. Poor Krojun almost lost his life, but luckily we made it to him in time and managed to heal the worst of his wounds. Manye, just maybe we can get a break from assassins for awhile. Now we just need to deal with the Shadowcount. I don't trust his true motives, but we need every ally we can get at the moment.

I should join the party, but right now I need to reflect and think about our next moves. Whatever information we find out will be an aid, but we will need more than the five of us when the time comes to confront the "Queen". I can only hope that we have the wisdom to choose our course wisely as a single misstep can get us killed.

As we continued our travels in the Cinderlands, Sial sent an urgent message to us.... it seems as if his traveling "castle" was under attack from one very angry red dragon... We managed to slay the beast as the Gods were smiling on us during the fight. I managed to hold my tongue against Sial after rescuing him... barely.

We have made contact with the Moon tribe and one of their Truthspeakers has agreed to come witness a legend reborn.... so into the belly of the beast I go. I hope I am successful in order to gain the trust of the Shoanti and get the information we need.

It truly is one thing after another it seems. As we travel through the Cinderlands to get information on a relic referred to as "Midnight's Teeth" we learned that there are those among the Shaonti that are advocating an attack on Korvosa. To stop this course of action, we need to gain the trust of the local tribes. One "gentlemen" named Krojun may be especially troubling to deal with. I think I know what my part will be in this, and I am not looking forward to getting eaten by a giant worm and cutting my way out to be "reborn"....... the things we do at times.

More troubling is our recent visitor.... Shadowcount Sial.... a cleric of Zon Kuthon who wants to aid us in out endeavors in order to recover Midnight's Teeth which may be a holy relic of his faith....... We accepted his aid for now, but I feel sick at heart over having to have any dealings with him. I would almost rather go treat with the Hellknights... at least with them I know what to expect and how to handle them.

I pray that Iomedae grants me the wisdom to see the correct path out of the tangled web before us. I feel as if my companions look to me for guidance in many ways and I do not want to let them do or imperil their souls in any way. Lady, please grant me strength to face the worm, wisdom to see through the lies and deceptions surrounding us, and the courage to do what needs to be done.

As we stand on the banks of the Jeggare, I can't help but whisper a prayer for the people of the city that we are forced to leave behind. We rescued Seneschal Kalepopolis and Vencarlo, and now have to see them to safety. By all indications, it is not safe for the rest of us to remain in the city either.

I will come back to restore law and justice to the people of Korvosa. The wrongs being done will be righted.

Well the Emperor of Old Korvosa is dead. We freed Scream from his grasp and he pointed us to House Arkona as a possible place to find the Seneschal. We made our way to House Arkona and waited to meet with Glorio Arkona, head of the house. Feeling a bit uneasy with the situtation, I used my ability and sensed a great deal of evil coming from our host. We spoke with Lord Arkona and managed to get his agreement that he would aid us in countermanding some of the Queen's orders through his seat on the noble council. Lord Arkona also informed us that Vencarlo and the Seneschal were somehow thrown into an infamous dungeon... probably because he threw them down there....
We are making our way through this dungeon and besides all of the wonderful traps down here we have come across these beings that Adhemar has identified as rakhaska, evil outsiders with the heads of beasts. One of the was trying to impersonate Vencarlo when he found it... somehow throw the grace of Iomedae I saw through the deception. Poor Destrel, while I do not understand her obsession with Vencarlo, I can only hope that she can hold it together when we find him as I am not sure if he returns her feelings. For once it is nice to not have to worry about holding back, and trying to convince someone to surrender. I hope and pray that we find Vencarlo and the Seneschal alive and can leave this awful place. The stench of evil is thick and I feel sick being here......

Personal Journal Entry..

I am still catching my breath and preparing for our next round of Blood Pig. I never thought when I joined the city guard that I would be looking for a missing seneschal and playing a game involving pigs and two wolverines. Since we made our way to Old Korvosa, I am struck by how quickly the veneer of civilization and law fades. These poor people here were left to rot by the Queen, and now turn to petty warlords for comfort. I want to stay and help the citizens here after we find the seneschal, but I know that my duty lies in stopping the Queen from further tortuing the city under the guise of a protector. I can only hope that we find the Seneschal and Vencarlo alive.

Lila's personal journal

Well, we found a cure for the plague, thank the Gods. We also received confirmation that the cultists were acting on the queen's orders. Old Korvosa is still cut off and the Seneschal of the city is missing. If I can get to Old Korvosa, to House Arkona and get the head of their house out, the noble council can vote to remove the queen. Or, if we find the sensechal he can lock down the palace. Either way, my next move is fraught with danger, but I can't in good faith leave the queen in power to cause more harm to the people of Korvosa. I hope that my companions continue on with me in this, but Destrel and Adhemar have so much to lose by joining me.
I wish Andros was still alive for me to talk to. I miss him still after all this time, but the ache has lessened. I would give almost anything to have him back. It is so hard to not have anyone that I feel I can pour out my doubts and fears to. I have to be strong for everyone else. I know the path I am on is the right one, but well I will never show I am scared that we will fail.... With Ioamade on my side we will be victorious if we keep faith. I have felt at peace since I decided on my course so I know that it is the correct one.

I know what I need to do, and have found the courage to do it. As we now know who brought the plague to Korvosa, it is time to bring him to justice. Kroft let us know in no uncertain terms that her hands were tied, but that we, as "free agents" could do something... and it is time to act. I told the others that I know what course of action I was going to take, and that I did not expect them to follow me in rebellion against a lawful authority of the city. Sionan immediately said that she would join me, I think that her involvement with Adhemar, Destrel and myself has been beginning to chafe on her nature, but I value her aid all the same.
As for Adhemar and Destrel, they seemed to be torn between their duties and their hearts. I will not judge them or hold a grudge no matter what their decision. I hope that they decide to join me and Sionan though... We started this together and I feel that we need to end this together.
I pray that we find Ruan alive, and can put a stop to this before more innocents suffer. If I find that Devalus was acting on orders from others, they can not run far enough or find a hole deep enough for them to escape their justly earned punishment.

Field Marshal Kroft,

My full report of the results of the investigation and pending charges against Vendra Loaggri has been logged. There is another matter that should be brought to your attention. My companions and I were approached by a woman who asked us for our aid. This woman identified herself as one of the city's wererats. She informed us that with the recent lynching of one of their number,a troublemaker by the name of Girrigz had gathered a group of wererats together to attack the city. This woman asked us to speak with Girrigz and try to stop the impending attack. She begged us not to kill any of Girrigz's followers, as she felt that they were misguided and could be brought to their senses. In exchange, she offered to give us information as to a possible source of the Blood Veil plague.
While I must admit that I was a little leery of this woman due to her nature, I agreed to help her as an attack by angry wererats would not bode well for the citizens.

We confronted Girrigz in his lair. His men took out silver weapons that we had acquired when we arrived, however, I had a silvered dagger hidden in my boot, just in case. The party used their best logical and impassioned arguments as to why attacking the city was a bad idea. I thought we had failed when Girrigz ordered his men to kill us and left the cavern room we were in. To my surprise and shock, his men began to beat their weapons on their shields and moved away from our silver weapons. They nodded to us and left. We had no choice but to put Girrigz down, but the city is safe from the wererats.

True to her word, our contact gave us this bit of intriguing information- some of her people found strange debris from the ship sunk by the guard recently. On the debris were bound boxes filled with coins. Her people reported that the coins were foul, as if the coins themselves carried the disease. She told us a way to reach the sunken ship. We will be investigating the wreck soon and I will inform you immediately of our findings. If this plague was deliberately introduced.... I can not bear to think of what country or group could be so evil as to engineer this.

In service,
Sergeant Lilia Calvinus

4, Gozred
In her darkened room at Tenna's Inn, Lilia kneels on the floor in prayer. Outside, the tortured city sleeps.

"Iomedae,

Please bless Korvosa with your grace and strength. The blood veil plague is spreading fast, and I feel so helpless. Today, when faced with the angry mob it was all I could do not to break down and cry. There were so many people who needed help and there was nothing I could do to help them rather beyond escorting Ishari to guard headquarters. While Adhemar and I were able to quell the worst of the mob's aggression, as this plague spreads I fear things will only get worse. Please grant me the strength and wisdom to help the citizens of Korvosa.

I also beg for your guidance. The recent actions of the Queen are causing me to doubt her true nature. While quarantines may be needed to combat the plague the other measures will do more harm than good I fear, and foster more fear and anger in the city. I do not know what to do......

Field Marshall Kroft has seemed to place a great deal of trust and me and I want to be worthy of her faith and trust, but if she finds out that I helped smuggle Trinia out of the city..... I know in my heart that even though I broke the law and defied the Queen's wishes by helping Trinia, I could not let an innocent face execution for a crime. I hope that she has arrived safely at her new home.

Goddess, please be with me as I try to stand fast and be a light to the people in a time of growing darkness. Help me to protect my friends, family, and the people of Korvosa"

As I write this, my soul and mind are in turmoil. I think I did the right thing, but......I am sworn to uphold the law and aided someone in freeing a prisoner sentenced to death by the Queen herself....

Kroft sent us to capture one Trinia Sabor. Trinia had been implicated in the death of the King. It appears as if his death was not as natural as it originally appeared..... Kroft wanted us to find Trinia and bring her in before an angry mob or the Hellknights got to her first. We went to her apartment, and saw her trying to flee across the Shingles. We kept up with her as best as we could, roof running is so not my thing. Eventually we brought her down with a few well placed arrows and crossbow bolts. I manacled Trinia's arms and then healed the worst of her wounds. She calmly came with us after I explained that Kroft sent us, and that we were trying to save her from an angry mob. She does not seem like the cold-blooded murdering type. Her eyes kept filling with tears as we escorted her through the city. I have a feeling that the poor child is being set-up... by who or what I do not know.

When we got her back to Kroft, another surprise was waiting for us. An old Shoanti was in Kroft's office. His grandson had been killed during the riots, and the body was sold to a foul necromancer. He asked that we retrieve the body for proper burial in order to help prevent war between Korvosa and the Shoanti. As a war is the last thing this city needs, I readily agreed. The trail led us to the Dead Warrens underneath the city's graveyard. The tunnels were filled with undead horrors and traps. The rumors of derro underneath the city are absolutely true.... foul little things. We managed to recover the body.......... it has been dismembered. While down there, we also managed to free two captives from the necromancer's clutches..... The woman we rescued was a thief and pickpocket who vowed to turn over a new leaf after her experience. My prayers are with her as she endeavors to be more law-abiding.

We returned the body back to Kroft having to lay the pieces in a wheelbarrow and cover them with a tarp so as not to panic any pedestrians in the street. When we got back there was horrible news waiting. The Queen had found Trinia guilty of poisoning the King. Kroft asked us to go witness the execution. The festival air of the execution was sickening. This poor girl was being used as a sacrifice to still the city's anger while the real culprits were covering their tracks. I felt ill as I listened to the Queen's speech. Before the sentence could be executed, Blackjack showed up and disabled the executioner. He pronounced Trinia's innocence and denounced the Queen. While I do not agree with the methods Blackjack uses, I respect and value his opinions and insight. He has always worked to better the city....
As he was talking, the executioner moved to strike at him from behind. Before I could even think, I shouted at Blackjack to duck. Well duck he did..... He managed to flee with Trinia, thank the Gods. I hope he gets her somewhere safe. I can only imagine the fallout from this... Blackjack is a hero to the city, and with him against the Queen, the unrest is far from over.

I need to come to terms with my actions. By rights I should have stopped him, but justice would not have been served if I did. I am not sure what is truly going on, but I will find out and see justice done. I have been too afraid to face my father as I fear seeing the look of disappointment in his eyes if he finds out what I did. This burden is mine to bear, I can only hope to shield my family, and friends from the repercussions of my actions.

Journal Entry 2

We set out to "All The World's Meat" to confront Varik. I was hoping to avoid bloodshed as some of these men I may have served with in the guard. Alas, after trying to negotiate to speak with Varik things came to a fight. Varik's men were skilled, but with the grace of the Gods we prevailed but not without cost. Adhemar was knocked unconscious. When I managed to finally get to Varik again, I was very wounded, but determined not to let my wounds cause me to fail. As my strength flagged, Varik surrendered. While investigating the rest of the warehouse, we found that some of Varik's men were murdering people in the slaughterhouse. Varik seemed to break when we confronted him with this. We got him safely back to Kressida as well as his few surviving followers.

Our next mission was to get "dirt" on a Chelxian diplomat who was trying to discredit the city and mess with trade. Kressida sent us to talk with, Dvargo, a known vice lord who may have the information we needed. Spiders.... poor Sionan, I thought she was going to go crazy. The place was full of spiders. Destrel agreed to a game of Knivesies in exchange for the information. Luckily, she won. We tried to negotiate for the release of a captive pseudodragon, but I must confess I was slightly pleased when a fight broke out. Dvargo fled deeper into his ship. We followed after securing the door from his men. The hold was filled with more spiders, and some large spider-humanoid abomination. Dvargo was killed and we found that he was manufacturing shiver on the ship. I seized the ship in the name of the city, and Dvargo's remaining men left quietly not wishing to face arrest for Dvargo's crimes. I am thankful that one less evil now exists in Korvosa.

Journal Entry 1

The city burns as I write this. The King is dead and the city is in turmoil with mass riots. As my companions and myself rest in the safety of the guard barracks before undertaking our next mission, I pray for the safety of my father and friends as they work to quell the riots.

Today started normally enough- did my patrol, filed my reports. I found a harrow card with a note on it mixed in with my reports. The note asked me to come to a house nearby to meet others who has been affected by Lamm as well. I arrived first as was shortly joined by an elf named Sionan, a Sable Company Cadet, Destrel, and a young priest, Adhemar. No sign of our host was evident. Our host made her self known shortly there after. She was an older Varisian woman who told us how Lamm had stolen her harrow deck and then killed her son. She knew where Lamm could be found and asked us to finally bring him to justice. She gave us a harrow reading that foretold dark times in the city- the Empty Throne card made me shiver as I knew that the King has been ill for some time.

My new companions and I left to go to the warehouse where Lamm was reported to be. Sionan did a quick scout of the building. Adhemar pointed out the one door that was likely to be the least guarded. While I have not confirmed this, I suspect that he was one of Lamm's Lambs in his past. I do not wish to pry into my companion's pasts with Lamm. As trust between us all grows, that would be the time to discuss our pasts. Sionan worked on getting the freight door open. Destrel readied her bow to cover us. Adhemar and myself readied to charge the door. Upon entering, a gnome shouted for help and threatened several children in the room into aiding him against the intruders. A large dog sprang to the attack from a side room. The dog and several children blocked our entrance briefly but Adhemar and myself rushed the room after the gnome. Adhemar tried to convince the children to flee, but instead they stayed to help us fight. The gnome fell as an orc ran into the room giggling. He started to attack Adhemar. One of the children, brave thing, tried to trip the orc and failed. The orc turned his manic gaze on the child and I managed to strike him down in righteous anger before the orc could cause any more harm. The dog fell to the combined attacks of Sionan, Destrel, and some of the kids. The children fled the warehouse with instructions to run to the Church of Adabar for aid.

We continued to search the warehouse and encountered a man that Adhemar identified as a fence for Lamm. We managed to capture him alive. I chained him up while he was unconscious and we continued to search for Lamm. While moving to search an old boat behind the warehouse, a shark attacked. Destrel, Adhemar, and Sionan made short work of the shark after it knocked me into the water. My companions helped me out of the water... I really need to learn to swim.... While in the water I saw what looked like a basement level in the warehouse. As we boarded the boat, an ominous creak was the only warning before I was dropped into the hold. Several drain spiders swarmed me and I tried to fight them off while my companions raced down from upstairs. The poison from the spider bites left me weakened but we were resolved.

We found Lamm in the basement of the warehouse. For a moment, the sight of this broken down old man stirred my heart to pity, but the knowledge of his evil drove us all on. I moved to engage him as my companions prepared their bows and crossbows. Lamm recognized me and taunted me with the fact that he had been the one to kill Andros. I heard my companions gasp at hearing this. One day, I'll tell them the whole story. He also recognized Adhemar and threatened him as well. Lamm fired into the water calling a large crocodile. As I engaged Lamm in combat, Adhemar, Sionan, and Destrel alternated firing at Lamm and fending off the crocodile. Lamm fell unconscious into the water. I moved to aid Adhemar with the crocodile. The crocodile retreated and attacked Lamm, killing him and ravaging his corpse. While all of us were horrified by the sight, Gods forgive me, part of me felt vindicated. As we watched, I felt tears streaming down my cheeks, as Andros loss seemed fresh again, even though his killer was brought to justice.
We searched the area looking for more proof of Lamm's crimes or links to his associates. We found the severed, rotting head of the woman who had gathered us and tipped us off to Lamm's location. She had been dead at least a week. I guess her need for vengeance called her back from the dead...... I'll ask about that one later.

We left to return our prisoner to the guard headquarters and turn in the stolen property. One of the items recovered was a brooch belonging to the queen of Korvosa. As we walked back outside, we walking into a living hell. The city was in turmoil.... . Riots and fires were everywhere.. Hellknights were riding down people in the streets..... i found a watch sergeant, drunk and despairing in the streets. We managed to convince him to follow us and got him safely back to guard headquarters. Ioamade, forgive me for the lies I told him. We safely made it back, turned over our prisoner, the sergeant and the stolen items. We braved the streets again for two last tasks- we returned the harrow deck and head of our "contact" to her home. My thought was to try to find any relatives she had and give her a proper burial once the city was calm. She appeared to us again, thanked us for killing Lamm, and said some cryptic words of us being chosen. Uneasy at her words, we left to return the queen's stolen brooch. We had a brief audience with her Majesty. I know the rumors about her, and the talk. While I do not know if she is sincere in her grief and love of this city, I sensed no ill intent from her. She requested that we report back to guard headquarters to help restore order to the city.

We have been asked to capture and return one Verik Vancaskerkin to guard headquarters. He is a guard member who is spouting rebellion against the queen and has managed to convince other guard members to desert from their duties. I am torn on how to proceed. Many of these men and women I may know. I pray that Ioamade grants me the wisdom to settle this matter as peaceably as possible.

Here is the background for Lilia Calvinus, a paladin of Iomedae. This 22 year old blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty while admired for her physical appearance is more admired for her sense of justice, fairness, and compassion for the everyday citizens of Korvosa.

Lilia Calvinus

Lilia was born as the only child of a mid-ranking city guard member. After years of trying for a baby, Lilia was truly viewed as a gift of the gods. Her parents always told her that the gods smiled on her birth. Lilia grew up happy. She grew up playing with the children of other guardsmen and women.
She eventually fell in love with the son of a family friend. Andros was two years older and already a member of the guard. Lilia and Andros waited two years before formally announcing their engagement, as they were waiting for Lilia to turn 18 at the insistence of both sets of parents. The families were thrilled with the engagement.
Andros diligently worked to save money for an engagement ring and for a home for the two of them. One night, while on patrol, Andros was brutally murdered in an alley. The engagement ring that he had purchased in anticipation of formally announcing the engagement was missing. Lilia was devastated by Andros’ death. Her bright dreams for the future died in the alley with Andros. Lilia remained close with Andros’ parents and older brother, as they comforted each other through their shared grief.
Lilia turned to the church of Iomedae for comfort. After several months of intense prayer, Lilia became a holy warrior of the faith. Lilia also discovered an ability that she never knew she possessed. She could prevent someone from dying from an injury at a touch. She joined the city guard and began quietly investigating Andros’ murder.
Her investigations took some time, but she found the engagement ring Andros had bought on the day of his death for sale at a jeweler of dubious reputation. The shop owner admitted that a man named Gaedren Lamm had sold him the ring, but had no further knowledge of how Lamm found the ring. Lilia quietly began investigation Lamm hoping to find him or proof of his involvement in Andros’ death.
While continuing her investigations, Lilia became a beloved figure in her local patrol area, known for her fairness, compassion, and the fear that she inspired in the local criminals. Lilia hopes to find the truth behind her beloved’s death and bring those responsible to justice.

Background

The land of Irrisen is a country locked in eternal winter. The once proud Ulfen peasantry live in constant fear of not only the monstrous & fey denizens of the cold, harsh land, but also of the nation's aristocracy: the Jadwiga, descendants of the legendary Baba Yaga herself, blessed (though most others would say cursed) with talents for arcane magic and endless cruelty. The most cunning and cruel of them rise to become rulers of the nation's provinces & cities; the best of them, in turn, form Irrisen's secret police, the Cold Sisters. Based out of the capital city of Whitethrone, the Cold Sisters patrol Irrisen, seeking out evidence of rebellion among the peasants and signs of double-dealing amongst the merchants and even their own kind to punish with all the fury of winter.

Every day looks utterly bleak for the smallfolk of Irrisen, but the existence of the Heralds of Summer's Return give them hope for a better tomorrow. This loosely-organized group fights against the tyranny of Irrisen's winter witches in the hope of one day overthrowing them entirely. One such member was Ivan Koslov, Shanya's father.

Shanya was left on the doorstep of her father's apothecary when she was a baby in the town of Hagby in Irrisen's province of Thronehold. Ivan took a look at her, and noticing how much she resembled him, decided to raise her as his own. Shanya's childhood was, like many of the children in Hagby, rife with paranoia and the looming menace of the town's ruler, Baroness Veronika Kseniya. The baroness was a lady prone to indulging in pointless greed and cruelty; in but one example of such pitilessness, when tax day came around, she was fond of hiking taxes up to unbearable rates and confiscating the property of those unable to pay. Unlike some of the other youths of Hagby, Shanya had a talent for staying out of the baroness' sight, as well as a good memory: she remembered every one of her atrocities and nurtured a private desire to see her brought low.

Shanya learned how to make basic concoctions and tonics for the townsfolk of Hagby under her father's tutelage, sometimes even filling in orders for Baroness Kseniya herself. Throughout her training, Ivan never spoke of her mother; every time she asked about her, he only remarked on how much Shanya looked like her. He was fond of saying that she had his face and her mother's beauty. In the end, Shanya only had more questions about her mother that Ivan refused to answer. She understood that she wasn't like the other village children--other children didn't have mismatched eyes, unnaturally tough skin and claws that could tear flesh like tissue paper.

Ivan came to trust his daughter with running the family business and frequently went away from home by the time she was twelve. When she was fourteen years old, Ivan finally revealed to her why he often left her in charge of the shop: he was a member of a resistance movement called the Heralds of Summer's Return, dedicated to striking back at the white witches that keep the once proud folk of Irrisen under their heels, and that they have been working tirelessly to break Kseniya's hold on the town. Shanya demanded that she be allowed to join, seeing an opportunity to get back at the baroness who tormented the populace of Hagby for so long.

And so it was that the Heralds accepted her into her ranks, teaching her the finer points of diplomacy and deception as well as knowledge of the fey allies of Irrisen's white witches. She developed into a capable spy, using the skills in avoiding attention and charming others she developed on Hagby's streets to suss out Baroness Kseniya's darkest secrets.

As Shanya discovered, the baroness thought herself cunning enough to get away with skimming off a sizeable cut of the taxes that went to Whitethrone. It was a simple matter for the Heralds to spread that secret along the trade caravan routes until Irrisen's Cold Sisters decided to pay the baroness a visit.

On the eve of the Cold Sisters' arrival, Ivan revealed to Shanya that the plan to overthrow the baroness was simply a distraction: the Heralds' real ploy was to smuggle as many of Hagby's townsfolk as they could out of the country while the Cold Sisters were occupied with the baroness' treachery. An operative of the Heralds named Solveig Ayrdahl in Whitethrone would be able to smuggle the townsfolk out of Irrisen.

When the Cold Sisters arrived in Hagby, only a few families were willing to make the journey to Whitethrone--the rest were too afraid of the witches' wrath to go. Setting out from Hagby, the caravan ran for many days and nights, resting as sparingly as possible in order to stay as far ahead of the Cold Sisters as they could.

In the end, it was all for naught.

As the caravan traveled along the road to Whitethrone, they ran across a rider garbed in red, blood staining his clothes, his mount slain by foul magics--Baba Yaga's Red Rider. He revealed Queen Elvanna's plan for Golarion: to blanket it in eternal winter, and that she had enslaved the legendary Baba Yaga. As he spoke, it became clear that he was not long for this world.

"Winter is coming... coming for the rest of your world. You believe the cruelties of my Queen's daughters is the worst anyone could suffer? The rest of your world is fated to endure far, far worse. But I can offer you a chance to stand against this... others like you are already fighting against her. Some of them have received the blessings of my Queen... blessings that I offer you in turn. Take them, and you may yet have a hope of bringing an end to this."

Most of the townsfolk balked at the Red Rider's request, Shanya's father among them. A select few took the Rider up on his offer. Though it galled Shanya to ally with the favoured servants of the woman whose daughters her people fought against for so long, she accepted as well.

It was then that the Cold Sisters caught up to the caravan. The Red Rider and the caravan fought valiantly against them, but in the end, Shanya was entombed in a block of ice, the sole survivor of the attack...

Description & Personality

Before you stands a petite young woman with abnormally pale skin and differently-coloured eyes: her left eye is blue and her right eye is a sickly green. Her messy black hair falls down to her shoulders, and she is clad in black furs that appear to be a few sizes too large for her. She looks you over with a critical, appraising eye. A shortbow is resting next to her, with a quiver of arrows slung across her hips. A dagger is visible on her belt next to a light mace and a cosh.

Shanya is a quiet, observant young lady, often found with her nose in some book or other and weighing her words carefully before she speaks. She enjoys conversing with people on the same intellectual level as her, but also harbours a serious mistrust of anyone who practices witchcraft. She finds it easy to befriend people, but has trouble really getting close to anyone after seeing how easily trust can be used and twisted for evil ends. Given time, she proves to be a reliable friend and ally. She has a decidedly pitch-black sense of humour.
