Liam was born to Ivan the fool. That's what everyone in town called him. Even his mother had before she went away. She had left to find work that she could do once she realized Ivan would never be able to make the money they needed. Liam still heard from her sometimes. She wrote to Liam every time she sent her earnings their way, but the letters rarely made it to him.
After she left, her father started taking Liam out to the forest and teaching him how to take care of himself. Liam loved learning about these things. It was often his favorite time.
Liam grew up fast, and hard. He often had to fight other kids his age and older as they treated him poorly for his father's sake. At first he would try to defend his father's name. Eventually Liam decided that Ivan did not deserve the defense, and now he fights to distinguish himself from his father.
