I need help building a Sorcerer with the Impossible Bloodline for a home-brewed campaign. This Blood line offers everything I'm look for in terms of the overall concept/feel for the character.
The Bloodline Arcana
Constructs are susceptible to your enchantment (compulsion) spells as if they were not mind-affecting.
Constructs are treated as living creatures for the purposes of determining which spells affect them.
I would really like to take advantage of this ability and make it a key part of my build. I'm also considering going Crossblooded if I can find another bloodline that offers some mind-affecting spells/abilities that I can use on constructs. If I go the Crossblooded route I would like to find a bloodline to replace the 3rd and 11th level spells, and the 1st and 9th bloodline powers.
I also need helping deciding on race, feats, and traits.
If you guys could get me pointed in the right direction in building an optimal crafting focused character I would be very thankful.
Sea Reaver
Eyes of the Storm (Ex)
At 2nd level, a sea reaver ignores any concealment provided by fog, rain, sleet, mist, wind, or other weather effects that is less than total concealment, and any penalties weather applies on Perception checks are halved.
This ability replaces uncanny dodge.

Hey guys I've been really busy. But I would like to say thanks for getting this thread back up and going. I'm still currently in progress for this campaign. Feel free to do what you want, get as creative as possible. I will be posting some stuff within the next few days.
I'm pretty sure everyone on this board is familiar with who Jean Grey is. Here is a build/discussion for a D&D optimized build that fits the concept. What I'm wondering is how one could do something similar to this but only using Paizo material.
Would it be possible to create your own gundam? I've always fantasized about doing this in a RPG.
This just screams Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Thanks for an idea for my next BBEG.

If you are a defender type then honor guard archetype and order of the dragon (with the helpful trait).
If you want to be a pain in the but then honor guard archetype (with the helpful trait) and order of the paw while mounted.
Order of the sword is fun, honor guard with order of the dragon and helpful and benevolent armor is pretty awesome too though, especially for pushing your AC's ac through the roof.
Could you possibly help me stat out this build? I'm not sure what feats to use for this. I would imagine he would be focused around mounted combat? I'm also having trouble choosing over these two...

Which one would you choose personally?

Look for "Taur Thelyn" in my Character Emporium for details. Sorry I couldn't provide a direct link, my online services have been wonky as of late.
Funny you mention it Ravingdork, "Taur Theyln" is what actually influenced me to want to play a Horizon Walker in the first place.

Abraham spalding wrote: I don't think you can actually get the best of everything in this case.
You want 5 levels of nature warden if you really want the AC so you can share the bonuses with it.
However you are also going to need 2nd level divine spells (possible with aasimar if you accept the FAQ on spell-like abilities) and the ability to grab all the favored terrains possible.
feral child druid 3/ cavalier 4/ rogue 2/nature warden 5/ horizon walker 6
That gets you 7 favored terrains without spending feats, a full on animal companion... 16 BAB, 6th level druid casting, 16/8/7 saves, evasion, 1d6 sneak attack, 2 terrain dominance and 3 terrain masteries, eating up 1 feat for horse master, free perception check for traps in favored terrain
Aasimar(agathion-blooded) cavalier 4/rogue 2/ ranger 1/Nature's Warden 5/ 8 Horizon Walker
That gives you 17 BAB 13/11/7 no real spell casting, heavy armor 7 favored terrains without a using feats, 4 terrain masteries 2 terrain dominance, evasion, 1d6 sneak attack, full animal companion at the cost of a feat
It really comes down to what exactly you want from it.
In the end this will get you up to a 7 point insight bonus to AC for you and your AC and a nice initiative bonus for both of you as well.
Thank you so much for this. I wish Beast Rider didn't replace the expert trainer class feature, it would fit sooo well. Which Order do you think would be best?

Also, the OP has changed their mind a few times on the kind of build they want, so each time they changed, I altered it.
Yeah my bad, but to be fair the title of the thread is ideas/builds (more than one). Most of that scattered around stuff was for the Nature Warden route. I will do my best to stay focused on one thing at a time. I don't feel like the 2 rogue levels are as crucial as you make them out to be. Yeah you get an extra terrain and a +2 to all other favored terrains but this really hurts your BAB. Plus I will already have 5 favored terrains which is decent.

Mathwei ap Niall wrote: nate lange wrote: you need Net Adept to use a net with spellstrike; you need quickdraw to use the shield (or any other weapon) with a blinkback belt (and will not be able to use spellstrike when you throw it, and can never use it with ranged spellstrike since its a throwable melee weapon). if you're willing to spend the feats (and sacrifice spellstrike most of the time) that's a pretty solid build (and one i probably wouldn't have thought of). Not really correct here, spellstrike has no limits on which weapon it can be used with. It specifies ANY weapon, period. Net adept just reduces the penalties but since it's a touch attack the penalties are nothing especially if the magus burns a swift action to use arcane accuracy.
Quickdraw is a requirement for any throwing build so is not an issue and as we've already stated spellstrike doesn't care what weapon you use. Spell combat though DOES require you to wield a light or one handed weapon but DOES NOT require you to use it as the weapon during spell combat. I recommend a spiked gauntlet myself, it lets you use spellcombat to cast your spells at the beginning of your turn then you quickdraw your shield from your belt and throw it with ranged spellstrike to do your combat maneuver (trip), it returns to your belt instantly, you re-draw it (free action) and throw it again. Repeat until you are out of attacks.
Legal, efficient, powerful and fun to play. Well I'm convinced, I'm gonna use this as a back up character. The visuals for this character in combat are amazing.
Abraham spalding wrote: i would suggest human cavalier for 4 levels so you can take the horse master feat to max out your ac. Well I need the Samsaran Alternate Racial Trait but I guess Racial Heritage could take care of qualifying as human or samsaran for traits/archetypes/favored class bonus/etc. That would definitely be a nice boost, that and Cavalier is my favorite martial class. How would you build this Abraham? I always enjoy reading your posts.
Edit: I was originally just gonna finish those last 4 levels off with Ranger, that way I gain more spells, quarry, imp. evasion, and HiPS.

Grizzly the Archer wrote: The ranger is the only one that gets favored enemy at level 1 so easily that I know of. Also, it is a really great class for a quick 1 level dip, you get a lot more than just favored enemy.
I'm not sure why go mad dog barbarian also. Pathfinder has is way of making it more ideal to stay within a single, or minimal amount of multi-classing to be good. If you stay for ranger 4 you can get the animal companion.
Quick question: will you be going ranged or melee?
If you go ranged, than getting more of nature warden might be better, unless you go for rogue and get a way to do ranged sneak attack, (normally within 30' or use sniper goggles to get it for longer ranges). Otherwise rogue might be better for 1 more level to get the extra sneak attack die for melee since you would then have your animal companion for flanking.
Also, the better option with all of this favored terrain bonus is using the companion bond instead of animal companion. I would get rid of mad dog barbarian and give your allies, half your favored enemy bonus, which from terrain dominance is your favored terrain, and give them a nice sized boost to atk and Dmg.
I think I'm dropping Nature Warden altogether, and only dipping into Horizon Walker for 3 levels for dimensional dervish. Also with the last build I posted you get more casting options. Plus you get the most out of Instant Enemy/Terrain bond. Also if you went with the Archery route you could finish the last 4 levels off with Lantern Bearer (requires burning a feat for Racial Heritage: elf). But I think I would personally go with the Switch Hitter Route.
EsperMagic wrote: thats the build im doing right there. You dont lose Favored Enemy and you get bonus castings of spells like instant enemy and terrain bond. NAture warden seems nice but I would only go into from a druid(feral child) I agree with you on that, its definitely the quickest and easiest way to get into it. But yeah, Samsaran Spirit Ranger definitely seems like the most optimal choice. Should I build it as a switch hitter? Or just focus on one or the other?
EsperMagic wrote: this build just seems to be getting too scattered now. You're losing BAB for underpowered Animal companions which I dont understand, boon companion wont keep them equal with 12-15 non-AC class levels in there. PLus even with 10 levels of horizon walker unless you know what terrains youll be in most of the time, I dont see it as more than a 3 level dip for dim door. Yeah I know... I just really wanted to combine Horizon Walker and Nature Warden, entering Nature Warden as early as possible. But at this point I'm really beginning to question my self. I think I might drop Nature Warden all together. That way I don't have to worry about the stupid animal companion thing.
Samsaran (Instant Enemy + Terrain Bond)
6 Ranger (Spirit Ranger)
3 Horizon Walker
7 Ranger (Spirit Ranger)
4 xxxxxx
Spirit ranger fits Samsaran thematically. Also I get spontaneous casting with a full spell list.
Is their any other way to gain favored enemy without being a ranger? Like an archetype for a different class? I know in D&D they had extra favored enemy as a feat.
4 Ranger (Favored Enemy/Wild Empathy/Endurance/Favored Terrain/Animal Companion)
2 Rogue (Sneak Attack +1d6/Terrain Mastery [Talent]
4 Nature Warden
10 Horizon Walker
or you could reduce Nature Warden to 3 and take 1 more level in Ranger after HW. I don't know... What is my absolute most optimal choice to make this work?
long-staff sixpenny striker wrote: Hmmm... so pick up 1 level of Oracle? I would and since you're dipping I would suggest possibly going dual cursed for fortune and misfortune.

What if you happen to be a land-bound level 7 necromancer? Then that makes things a little more difficult. The best excuse I could come up for this is that you like water . The reason/purpose of a necromancer loving water would be a spell that evaporates moisture from the body of each subject living creature, causing flesh to wither and crack and crumble to dust. Also known as Horrid Wilting Just re-flavor waves as water in general, I think this should be enough to convince your DM. Also would like to point out the fact that the spell is of the necromancy school.
Waves Oracle at first level you can take the Water Sight (Su) revelation.
Grizzly the Archer wrote: Hence the 1 level of ranger for favored enemy. It's needed since HW won't give the ability directly. As for the 2 rogue levels, they are required to get the rogue ability for rogue talent: terrain mastery. You only need 2 levels to qualify, but once you do, just take the feat extra rogue talent: (choosing) terrain mastery. Will give you an extra terrain, plus a +2 in all terrains you have favored.
So 7 levels of undecided, -2 levels rogue, -1 ranger level for static favored enemy=4 class levels left.
So what should I do for animal companion, this?
1 Ranger (Favored Enemy)
2 Mad Dog Barbarian (Animal Companion + Pack Tactics)
2 Rogue (Favored Terrain)
3 Nature Warden
10 Horizon Walker
2 Nature Warden/ or Mad Dog/ or Rogue
Also their is always
3 Druid World Walker
2 Rogue
3 Nature Warden
10 Horizon Walker
This provides 2 favored terrains by level 5
So you need to be at least 5th level to go Nature Warden. I think what I want to do is dip 3 levels into Nature Warden and take 10 levels of Horizon Walker. My problem is finding the most optimal choice for the other 7 levels. (Starting Classes)
I was thinking of this
1 Mad Dog Barbarian (Animal Companion at start + fast movement + rage)
4 World Walker Druid (FT + NB: Domain/Sub Domain. + Wildshape 1/day + Spells)
3 Nature Warden (YES)
10 Horizon Walker (YES)
2 World Walker Druid (Wildshape 2/day + 3rd level spells)
You get an Animal Companion and a Domain or Sub Domain, its pretty sweet. Please give me some feed back. The only down side is that it doesn't have favored enemy.
Grizzly the Archer wrote: Minimum:
1 ranger
2 rogue
2 nature warden
3 horizon walker
7 more HW
5 xxxx
I really wanted to avoid rogue, do I have other options? Plus I don't think you have enough skill ranks to even get into nature warden, unless I'm missing something. I thought you couldn't have more ranks than number of hit dice, NOT the number on the dice.

This is a very nice rogue build, you should post this in that Rogue thread if you haven't already. Unfortunately I think I'm trying to stay away from playing a rogue, that's usually my go to. Other than that I like this a lot.

chaoseffect wrote: I don't see why you would really go more than 2 Rogue. I'm assuming you're only using it for Terrain Rogue Talent, but once you have one talent you can just get that from a feat. Yeah I really didnt like the 4 levels of rogue, It hurts really bad. I would much rather mix Ranger/Druid.
Edit: I guess the main goal is to be able to Smite anything.
What about...
Ranger 1/ Druid (World Walker) 6/Nature Warden 3/ Horizon Walker 10 (I don't know what order would be best)
Edit: You could even possibly combine Pack Lord with World Walker but you lose your wild shape to gain Improved Empathic Link (Su) This would make for an excellent scout, plus being able to freely talk to animals/companions in favored terrains is awesome ( you will have plenty of places to talk)
That way you gain your favored enemy, you get a favored terrain from world walker, 4th level druid spells. wild shape 2x a day, great synergy with nature warden abilities ( plus with 3 levels you can talk to animals in your favored terrains at will)
Edit: Another option for early entry to Nature Warden could be...
Ranger(Warden)1/Druid(Feral Child) 4 on the bright side you gain two favored terrains by level 4 but you do lose your favored enemy. You could take racial heritage feat for the Samsaran Alternate racial for instant enemy and terrain bond.
chaoseffect wrote: I get what you're saying Grizzly, but what confuses me is this: Is one creature from the Favored Enemy type being native to the terrain sufficient for Instant Enemy to work?
I'm randomly grabbing a creature that says "Environment: Any." Hound of Tindalos is an Evil Outsider that can be from anywhere. If I chose Evil Outsider as my Favored Enemy could I use Instant Enemy to link any creature to any Terrain Dominance?
Yeah that's why I said my brain hurt haha.
How optimal would you say this build is? The one you suggested.
1 ranger/ 4 rogue/ nature warden 2/ HW 10/xxxx 3 or 3 rogue and 4xxxx.
So would I even need Instant enemy because now that I think about it, If I just cast Terrain Bond they become a favored enemy from my most favored terrain? Okay I just saw your edit.

Grizzly the Archer wrote: I believe only against the creatures that are native to your terrain. Since:

This bonus overlaps (does not stack with) bonuses gained when fighting a favored enemy."
So if you face an enemy that is not from your terrain, instant enemy WOULD NOT work because you have no favored enemy ability to use instant enemy with.
If your facing a terrain native enemy, than you can cast instant enemy, but that's redundant because youcalreadychave bonuses to it by then.
You would need the actual favored enemy ability, hence why I suggested at least 1 level of ranger to qualify for it. Pick human, since they are always natives to every terrain, and then use the instant enemy on the enmy creatures to make it to the human which is a native to your terrain.
Essentially, using the actual FE:human as a link up between the ability and the spell. Otherwise it's a no go.
See my previous post, I edited it.
Grizzly the Archer wrote: Rogue 2/ranger 3/ HW 3/ nature warden 2/HW 7/ xxxx2 for last 2 levels seems solid enough. Okay but does Instant Enemy apply to the Favored Enemy through Terrain Dominance? For example, you could add divine power to your druid class spell list, but not to your wizard class spell list because divine power is a divine spell. These spells do not have to be spells you can cast as a 1st-level character. The number of spells granted by this ability is set at 1st level. Isawa_Chuckles wrote: Gets you 4th level druid spells (including being able to cast instant enemy as a swift action instead of as a standard) The ability to wild-shape 2x/day into a pouncing cat is decent synergy with having like +30 to attack and damage rolls. But we still need the favored terrain class feature, we will gain this through the Horizon Walker levels which will come before hand. Now assuming Instant Enemy doesn't work through the Favored Enemy bonus through Terrain Dominance, we need to dip Ranger. Also if IE doesn't work through Terrain Dominance does it make this build completely pointless?
The main reason I wanted to mix Horizon Walker with Nature Warden (at least 2 levels) was for the +1 level of divine spellcasting class. Also the 4 class features the first 2 levels of Nature Warden provide incredible synergy with Horizon Walker. It makes your Terrain Bond extremely potent.

chaoseffect wrote: I think saying Terrain Dominance gives you the Favored Enemy class feature is a bit of a stretch; it says you can treat your bonus as a Favored Enemy bonus, but that's not the same thing as having a Favored Enemy type that Instant Enemy requires.
Has here been some sort of official ruling on this? If your DM is cool with your interpretation it's much better for you, but yeah I don't see it myself, hence why I had a Ranger level in my last suggestion.
I see your point, It was like 5 in the morning when I posted earlier. But at the same time I feel like instant enemy should still work because you gain favored enemy types within your terrain. I really want to build a Horizon Walker/ Nature Warden. For entry to Nature Warden you need BAB +4/Animal companion class feature*, favored terrain class feature, wild empathy class feature/Handle Animal 5 ranks, Knowledge (geography) 5 ranks, Knowledge (nature) 5 ranks, Survival 5 ranks/Able to cast 2nd-level divine spells This is why druid came into play.
Also the problem I was having before (not being able to cast Terrain Bond as a spell was solved) Samsarans alternate racial trait Mystic Past Life allows to add spells from another spellcasting class to the spell list of your current spellcasting class. You add a number of spells equal to 1 + your spellcasting class's key ability score bonus (Wisdom for clerics, and so on). The spells must be the same type (arcane or divine) as the spellcasting class you're adding them to. For example, you could add divine power to your druid class spell list, but not to your wizard class spell list because divine power is a divine spell. I need help fleshing out a build to make this happen. Assuming you cant cast instant enemy through a favored enemy through terrain dominance.

Horizon Walker gives you favored enemy through Terrain Dominance
At 3rd level, a horizon walker learns total dominance over one terrain he has already selected for terrain mastery. When dealing with creatures native to that terrain, the horizon walker treats his favored terrain bonus for that terrain as a favored enemy bonus (as the ranger class feature) against those creatures. This bonus overlaps (does not stack with) bonuses gained when fighting a favored enemy.
It even scales better than the rangers.

That is through Mystic Past Life correct?
Edit: Thank you so much for this, I think I'm set on playing this. Would you want to help me stat it out?

I would personally maybe do something like...
half-elf diviner 4/ rogue 1/ assassin 1/ Arcane Trickster 10
I would highly recommend going with an object (ring) not a familiar for your arcane bond. You can cast an extra spell from your spell book even if its not prepare once per day, this is pretty huge to me. Plus you can add additional magical abilities to it. For the Divination school its really up to you, you could go with one of the focused schools if you'd like. As for opposing schools I leave that to you. Here are some feats you should consider. Craft Rod, Craft Wondrous Item, Defensive Combat Training, Improved Initiative (Cant stress this enough), Skill focus (Stealth), Stealthy, Weapon Finesse. The rest is really up to you. Take one level rogue for Sneak attack and Trap Finding (duhhhh). Now dip one level into Assassin (THIS IS AMAZING) Once again you're getting some more sneak attack damage but also death attack (this makes you a monster) and poison use (yesss) The rest is pretty obvious, these things all mesh well with Arcane Trickster and will turn you into one deadly mage assassin.
Arcturus24 wrote: I think Nature Warden is a good choice, if you have high favored terrain bonuses in terrains you fight in a lot (underground, urban, forest...). At NW lvl 2 you get Mystic Harmony, which gives half your fav terrain bonus to AC. I have been been thinking about a build with the maximum number of fav terrains, and if you were to put every one in the same terrain, you could get +10 AC in that terrain. Plus, the HW's capstone, combined with Mystic Harmony, gives you +1 to AC everywere. Yeah that's why I brought up the Nature Warden, I see the potential. Now all you need to do is find a way to cast Terrain Bond: You treat the terrain you are in as your most favored terrain until this spell ends. You would basically be a master of all terrain and be able to have crazy bonuses no matter where you're at. I guess my main goal is to have the highest possible bonus I can get.

I've just been tossing around ideas in my head. The only thing I'm sure of is that I really do want to play as a Horizon Walker, whether or not its a 3 level dip or a solid 10 level investment. Speaking of going all 10 levels, what would be the best class/archetypes to choose prior to the PrC? Is it even worth 10 levels? I just want to be a master of the land/world and still be able to lay the smack-down.

You get the dimensional dervish chain, the ranger feats and favored enemy/instant enemy/guide bonuses/and then you can get rage from the barbarian though preferably focused rage from the urban barbarian archetype.
I actually do like this a lot and I could easily come up with a back story to make it work. Lets escape the marital aspect for a second and focus on nature. Do you think multiclassing Horizon Walker with Nature Warden would be an optimal choice? For an easy entry to Nature Warden you could go Ranger (Warden) 1/ Druid (Feral Child) 4
What are some of the other options available? I'm concerned about a ranged attack archer style Horizon Walker.

If Tattooed is a no go I would definitely go Daemon, I'm getting ready to build one soon as a back up character.

Warden replaces FE with a FT at level 1. Remember to buy boots of friendly terrain.
I would recommend going Scout, its one of the best (IMO) and it also fits thematically. How many levels into Horizon Walker would you go? Basically 3 or 10 because you don't really benefit from the PrC any other way.
