Layla levels her pistol at the remaining tatzlwyrm, the scent of blackpowder and ozone filling the glade as her shot, crackling with electricity, hits home.
As Rrruh attacks one of Randu's assailants, Layla targets the other, firing a shot with her enchanted weapon, the chamber rotating to ready another shot immediately.
Layla quickly utters a spell, conjuring a shimmering shield of force floating ahead of her as she draws her weapon.
"We could try taking them at range, force them to come to us." Layla suggests.
Layla's ears perk up at Randu's mention of tatzlwyrms, the beasts having long been a topic of some fascination for her.
The overhead passage of what appeared to be a dragon was both awe-inspiring, and, to be completely honest. somewhat terrifying, the magus breathing a sigh of relief as it flew out of sight. As they come to the clearing and the sight of the great majestic titan of a darkwood tree, she finds herself speaking in almost a whisper. "It's magnificent and definitely worth a visit."
Having already checked and cleaned Kedavera before turning in the night before, Layla awakens at some point during Miya's training, watching her entrancingly fluid movements for a bit with a smile, before taking out her spellbook and settling into her own daily routine of reviewing and mentally preparing her magic, burning the elaborate arcane formulae into her mind, structuring her spells to ignite at triggering arcane phrase or gesture. "As soon as I get my armor on and something to eat." she says with a chuckle, uttering an incantation as motes of magical energy flow over her body eliminating ant dirt, dust, and grime from their travels. "Nowhere near as good as a bath, but very handy while traveling," she says with a grin.
"Sounds like that might be a good idea, hopefully we don't end up blundering right into one or both of them." Layla mutters.
Clearly not much of the wilderness type, Layla tries to help with finding their way through the ominously dense forest
"If we want to make sure that Vadeis no longer a treat, we should go through the forest and check on Ulizmila's cottage." Layla points out.
"And an enticing spot for a dark mage forced to abandon his tower." Layla surmises.
"Well that looks interesting...potentially useful too." Layla comments as she studies Randu's discovery. "It looks like there are a couple of places Vade could have bolted to." she says, pointing out the evidence she managed to uncover.
With a sigh, Layla buckles down to the task of sifting through the chaos.
"That seems likely." Layla replies, nodding. "I suppose we'll head there first thing and open the place up, see exactly what it is I've gotten myself into, and report what we find." she says with a chuckle.
"That's fine." Layla replies "Besides, I wouldn't want to expose any civilian to whatever he might have had going on in there until we check it out properly."
"Having just purchased the tower, we can go through it for any hint as to his whereabouts. And to be honest, bringing him in for questioning would be a bit of a relief. Otherwise he'd likely be able to get into the tower through some secret entrance at any given time and raise all types of hell." Layla comments.
"Good to know, and an honor really." Layla says, considering the news of their long-term sationing. "I've very much come to like this place, and those making their home here."
Layla completes her purchas, steep as it is, happy to have her new property to explore, and improve upon. The idea of turning the tower into a future bastion of both magic and alchemy, possibly becoming a place to introduce new magi to the art of arcane gunslinging fills her with ideas. But first would come the clearing out of Vade's dark work.
That could definitely work! Put a few more ranks into craft Alchemy next level, start an arcane gun school in my downtime. I'll bid on the tower, looking to take it over, and renovate/sanitize if needed.
Having a bit of a hard time coming up with something for Layla to take over in a similar vein. The tower makes sense maybe as an arcane caster although she isn't really a wizard, and I doubt the townsfolk would care.
Didn't want to go into the family business?

Taking in the heavy gold ring's fine workmanship, Layla nods. "That would definitely eliminate that concern...though...I'm not the one of us with more closely held secrets to protect." she says turning to Miya. "This could make sure that no one but those of us you choose to share your true nature with find out." she offers.

"Seems reasonable enough. Returning the letters might even buy us stronger standing with the Kalistocracy, should actual trade with them ever be necessary... it's not like they can openly challenge where it came from either."
"That would be best, and we'll be happy to minimize the impact of all this on your family." Layla replies, agreeing to the task of disposing of the bodies of the slain.
"You'll want to get your Watch Commander out of bed as well. They'll definitely want to know what's been happening here...unnoticed." Layla adds. Somehow, without ever raising her voice, she manages to convey that not immediately complying with their requests would result in the guardsman being to held to blame for something he definitely wanted no part of.
Hope you get through it without too much discomfort, and you all get better soon.
Layla gives a slight nod, with a hint of a smile, already quite familiar with Miya's true form. "Nothing left but to break the news. At least the horror of knowing they had ruthless murderers under their roof will be offset by the fact that they're no longer a danger." Layla says, rolling her shoulders to ease some of the tension of the moment.
Layla looks on, her expression clearly satisfied with the majority opinion on the course of action, giving Miya a glance of appreciation for her moral concerns.
"Well, you spoke up first, and I keep my word." Layla says. "For the crimes of theft, the murder of the caravan guards, moving of illicit goods, and attempting to frame innocents, you on the other hand...need to meet justice." She says, drawing back the hammer on her pistol.
"First to talk doesn't get shot." Layla says, calmly reloading her weapon.
"And where is everything you took stashed?" Layla adds.
"Well I suppose jokes on them then." Layla says, her tone icy. "I suppose you took everything they had as well?"
Holstering her weapon, Layla strides over to the bodies of the fallen (those that haddn't gone over the cliff), searching each of them in turn.
Layla moves forward, leveling her weapon to target one of the pair battling with Rrruh, aiming for the one the catfolk had just kicked.
Yeah there's a pretty wicked viral infection going around this year, My whole family is just getting over it now too
The impact of the throwing axe elicits a loud curse from Layla as she fires another shot at the bastard.
With the magic oil silencing her pistol, the only sound heard as Layla aims Kadavera and fires is the wet thwack of a bullet punching its way into one of the Redrock thugs looking astonishedly at his plummeting comerade, before the jolt of shock and crackle of electricity takes effect.

The oil of silence active on her gun, Layla quietly waits until the chaos starts, ready to aim at the first enemy to survive the ambush.
"Absolutely"
Layly quietly makes sure that her weapon is loaded.
"Yeah, we should secure the most dangerous or valuable items, and send a dispatch to have soldiers come to transport the rest." Layla agrees.
"The only rational use of that thing would be as a weapon, and a pretty devastating, albeit underhanded one at that. The money that could be made from selling it would go far toward saving a lot of the town from the predatory bastards trying to buy it out, but I wouldn't feel comfortable putting this thing in the hands of the kind of person who'd buy it." Layla says, considering their findings and Miya's revelation. "But, if we're trying to save the town from financial raiding..." |
