I've made done a bit of tinkering these pat few days, and picked up on the fact that Summoners can wear mithral breastplates without penalty, ignoring proficiency penalties by either spending a trait or adding comfort property to the armor.

But what if the Summoner were to wield a mithral light shield, which has an armor check penalty of 0, and a arcane spell failure chance of 0%.

Would the Summoner then incur 15% spell failure for wearing the mithral breastplate?

Actually does the enhancement bonus from the firearm transfer to the bayonet? Would be rather worth it then. Depending on your bonuses, +3 to hit and damage is nothing to sneeze at.

Though my gut tells me you can't do this, since they are effectively two separate weapons till connected.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Early era Bayonets are plug types, as in they are meant to be socketed into the barrel of the firearms. Though yea it didn't take people very long to realize that this just effectively turned your firearm into an unwieldy spear.

I am no master on monster crafting but I'll take a shot at it.

For NPCs like these, I think the best solution would be to tack on a few more levels of their current class.

For example, currently you have a goblin warrior at level 1 and you wish to bump up his challenge rating. You could tack on another 2 levels of warrior to promote a lowly goblin grunt to a sergeant and he'd get all that would entail. Which means much more hit die, more BAB, more skills, a feat, and better saves. This would bump him up to a Challenge Rating of 1 (+2 of 1/3)

After that, you should upgrade his gear to match his new CR and status as Sergeant of his tribe. Masterwork weapon, breastplate, and a few vials of alchemist bombs for those pesky high AC fighters should make for an enhanced challenge.

Well assuming the Ettin is holding a javelin in one hand and a flail in his other hand. He could then melee attack using his flail against an opponent with one hand, and hurl his javelin with the other without penalty.

He'd only get to have one ranged attack though, since he lacks a means of getting another javelin in his javelin hurlin' arm in the same round.

If he had picked up the Quick Draw feat and had spare javelins, I believe he could have 2 Melee and 2 ranged attacks as you said.
