Lariel approaches, bow in hand, and says "Well met. We're here on behalf of the guild to take care of your wolf problem. Anything you can tell us is useful." He forgets to introduce himself, but doesn't really care about diplomacy, so he just starts looking at the ground.

Lariel nods at Coraline and says "Sure, let's do the lumberyard first. Then we go to this cult and take a look. You're right, we can be more greedy."

If everyone is set, Lariel suggests they set out quickly.

Lariel reads the job offers and says to the others "This unknown spirit could be our new singing friend. I think it could be just a wild chase, only to eventually find out we may agree with the new cult. I think the lumberyard one is much more tangible and it benefits the community."

Given that we have some time, I'll sell my longbow and buy a composite longbow with a +2 strength bonus.

Lariel thanks mrs. Winfield and as soon as he is dismissed, he goes to buy himself a new bow, one that is more fitting to his shooting arm.

After, he returns to the others and says "We should just call ourselves Leonans in remembrance of our friend who left."

Lariel explained "We've recovered the stolen goods. Also, we've brought these two here to face justice. You see, they stole the goods in the first place." He goes ahead and orders a large flagon of water and proceeds to hand it out to the others, bandits included.

Auto succeed on perception

Lariel looks at the tracks and says "Looks like the horses went on to the west. I'd say they are the ones that startled the boar and as the bandits were chasing the horses, they got the boar's attention."

Despite it being almost night, he suggests that the group carries the cart back slowly. Between him, Coral and Aletha, they can do good time due to their strength. In the city, they can rest after a work well done.

I assume the boar's female then?

Lariel takes care of the bandits' wounds and says "This boar can be cooked, but you need to handle it correctly, it would take some work. It seems it came from the west, it may have been protecting its offspring. Now, try not to steal again." He isn't sure why he suddenly became preachy.

Lariel relaxes and collects whatever arrows he can reuse. He, then, approaches the boar and inspects it.

After his study of the scene, he approaches the bandits and says with his bow in one hand and an unnocked arrow in the other "So, you're the ones who stole these goods, aren't you? Care to explain?"

Lariel adds "We chose to follow the bandits' trail. This led us to that orb. We could go back and try to follow the wagon's tracks, but the orb's business was more pressing." Feeling he should explain better, he adds "It really hurts, you see, when you pull it out of the bag."

Lariel says "Well, we've recovered the horses and even tracked down the bandits. I say we take as much from the bandits back to the gnomes, or tell them how to find this place, as a means to get some measure of reparation for us taking the horses from them."

He points to the backpack with the orb and says "As for this, we should get to HQ as fast as possible. There's nothing else for us to do here, and we've completed our assignment. Let's not try to bite more than we can chew. I think we've already accomplished more than we set out to do."

Lariel says "Oof, we should really cover this reliably." He proceeds to empty one of the backpacks of the dead bandits and puts the orb within, closing it very tightly.

He says "So, any idea of what this might be?"

Lariel is caught off-guard, and is thrown back and falls on the ground. He manages to fight off the mental attack, although the mental strain is very heavy. He gets up and runs towards the orb with his backpack in his hands, meaning to cover it.

I get 1 action. Not sure if getting up uses it up, or if I can at least move there. I mean to cover the orb with my backpack

After Vasaam gives the ok, Lariel tries to unlock the box a little harder.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

This jams the lock. Lariel says "Yeah, this is too hard for me to open delicately. I'll force it open." He pulls out his crowbar and forces it open.

Strength with crowbar: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8

He says "Man, this is too hard. Aletha, want to give it a go?"

Lariel inspects the piece of dried meat they had to determine if it's from a creature from these woods or anything special.

Knowledge nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

He tells Vasaam "The humming seemed to be coming from this box. It faded when the fighting stopped. I want to open it, but am a bit worried of what might be inside. If it's a living creature, such as a fey, then we should be extra careful, but also it'd be cruel to let it sit inside."

If left to his devices, he takes his time looking at the box for traps, then tries opening it.

Take 10 on perception for a total of 18, then take 10 on Disable Device for 17

He walks over to the humming box and pokes it with his foot. He looks at the others and explains "Science experiment."

Lariel jumps astonished and scrambles to knock an arrow on his bow. He fires it at the blue wounded bandit.

Lariel thinks "They are clearly a bunch of nobodies, their icons on the map are the same henchman icon with different colors. These are clearly thieves. Maybe even of the horses. I don't think we're going to just let them go. But better to let Cora ease the tension, it's better if we have more information."

Lariel curses himself. Not only did he fall into a trap like a deer, but he failed to hide himself now.

Fun fact, saw a deer today.

He holds his bow at the ready, not wanting to talk, as he knows things don't go well when he does. He watches the 4 men, especially the one with the bow. If it comes to a shooting match, he is sure he'll come on top. But still, basic tactics dictate that the group should concentrate their efforts on a single oponent, if it comes to a fight. He hopes it doesn't.

Lariel replies to Coraline "Well, if one would spend their life hunting and cleansing terrible beasts, one would grow old and die without ever coming close to finishing." He actually doesn't care much about this conversation and without any verbal confirmation from the others, begins following the tracks again.

Lariel relaxes and says "This is normal, yes. It's a survival mechanism to run away when things are tough. Is this not like this underwater?"

He checks anyone who has been bitten to see if there's risk of infection.

Heal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

After everyone is safe, he says "We should move on. Don't want to lose the track."

Take 10 on Survival for a total of 17.
