I'm still in, sorta,....

In the last couple weeks I've started DMing a PbP and it's taking up a considerable amount of my Paizo-time. Like I mentioned a couple weeks ago, I can follow along and contribute, but I can't really drive or push the campaign forward right now like I could when we started the campaign.

Lanezra would like to find out more about the 'madness' spreading around the Underdark, but would also like to go back to that wedding and break out some kick-butt on Zuggtmoy's cultists.

"We don't yet know the source -- nor even the nature of it. We need information. ....Or to just get out of the Underdark."

I think that giving the DM a bit of time to look or any other PCs in Recruitment is okay. The game slowed to nothing and I started using my Paizo-time for other stuff. Once we get started again I'll come running. No hurry on my end.

I am still here but am quite busy as well -- I just started a Recruitment Thread for a new PbP myself. It'll take up quite a bit of time. I can't drive this game forward, only passively participate as someone else drives it forward.

I recommend focusing on a bit of Recruitment and/or taking a break for a while, maybe a couple weeks.

Let me know what you decide is best.

After introductions are made and the stubborn ol' Myconid becomes a little comfortable with our presence, Lanezra will try to get some information....

"Master Hunter, can you tell us about Sorveign Phylo? He wants us shunned because we are outsiders to The Grove. You are wise; does this sound like something about which he would feel so strongly, or does it seem out of character for the leader of the Myconids?"

"Agreed, when we return I want to speak with Sorveign Phylo, see if I can sense whether he just doesn't like outsiders or if he seems, you know, tainted with madness."

Lanezra begins heading to the hunter's hut with Carson.

*Lanezra will vote for staying on the periphery of the community, both to avoid confrontation and demonic influence (from the water, the air, the dreams....). ....He will note to his companions this is what happened in the Duergar town and maybe even the Kuo Toa village where we saw the Aspect of Demogorgon. ....He will use Diplomacy and Sense Motive to gather information, but not his specialty (Bluff) because they're our allies.*

Guys with knowledge of the campaign -- please use spoiler tags when appropriate so that, if there's a chance of us Players not knowing a thing that you already know, you don't spoiler for us.

If I have some time I'll write a little blurb of what we've done. It'll have to be 3rd person because I certainly won't have time to write in Lanezra's voice.

In the upcoming Recruitment Thread (assuming Killscrew doesn't respond), you could always ask if someone wants to make a Fighter/Barbarian/Ranger/whatever named "Celia." I don't think Absalom said "Hey look, it's my 'human' friend, Celia that we have to rescue"- -- just 'my friend Celia.' So a Player could chose Race, Class, Alignment, etc. and just have a female named Celia.

The rest of us were brought to the Underdark as chattel without our equipment and such -- why not the new PC?

And obviously it would be a smooth way to get the PC into the group. (The only reason I bring it up.)

Of course, it would be up to the Player.

I ditto Carson's question about NPCs with us. I must admit I've had no idea this entire campaign who or even how many NPCs were with us. Heck, the first couple months or so I didn't know who was a PC and who was an NPC. I just waited and let PbP-posting-attrition take its course and got to see who was still posting a few months in. I'm clueless as to who is still with us if anyone at all.

Carson and I have been posting from the beginning -- and I finally got used to Carson's alternate alias (GM Hands of Fate). And now Absalom's been posting for a while -- and I'm hoping he realized my PC was a Scholar/ Knowledge-Skills freak, too, and is okay with that. As for the rest: ....Stool, um, ....Topsy & Turvey, um, .... anyone else-- no idea. That aspect of the campaign was completely lost to me (hope it isn't important).

I didn't look at Killscrew yet but, as for my 2 cp, I would throw out that the build and backstory of a prospective PC is not so important as is that Player's posting consistency & history, and understanding that we play at a slow pace with NO pvp or selfishness.

Super busy today -- Lanezra will spend time during the rest talking to Absalom about scholarly stuff and talk with Carson about combat training stuff. And, uncomfortably, he'll pray to Oghma. (He's still so new to praying; it's awkward.)

I don't know yet but I'm hoping it's something from my 27 Religion roll -- or at least my 14 History roll.

.... Okay to recruit a full combat PC to join us?

After explaining the history and significance of the gold disk with three stars to the others,....

"Well, let's not tarry in this place where the toe-jam of Zuggtmoy knows we are; let's move off and try to find a defensible spot to camp."

Lanezra offers a shoulder to the young lady on which to help her walk and begins to move off from the fight scene.

"It wouldn't be fair for me to take the enchanted armor and sword. Carson, I think you should keep the sword even though you prefer your old weapon. And my vote is that Absalom keeps the scrolls, dagger and money."

Studded Leather is AC 12 + DEX, correct?

That's what I'm putting down, correct me if I'm wrong.

That gives me a 16 AC.
12= Studded Leather
1= DEX
2= Magical Enchantment
1= Paladin Defensive Style

Looking closely at the Three-Stars gold disk, Lanezra considers the item.
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Knowldege Arcane: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Knowledge History: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
And apply whichever is appropriate.

(If it's not a Spellcraft roll I can check the Scrolls: +7 Religion, +5 Arcane.)

(Don't feel too bad, Carson-- I assumed that I'd get the Sneak Attack damage with my level of Rogue but, nope, no extra d6 damage from Lanezra's precision attacks.)

Lanezra spreads his arms in welcome for Carson, Absalom and the poor girl to see what he has found.

"There are a couple of scrolls, if you want to look to see if they are Arcane or Divine.

"This Shortsword has been forged with magic; it has an enchanted blade.

"And here is a Bag of Holding; I haven't seen one of these in quite a while. If you guys don't mind, I'll hold onto it -- but we should treat it as belonging to all of us equally.

"And look here, there's a roughed-up suit of Leather Armor; I'm going to see if it's worth wearing."

After a minute or so of everyone looking at the items plucked from the dead Drow and Lanezra trying on the armor, he opens the Bag of Holding to see if there yet remains treasure inside.

HP: 1d10 ⇒ 7

Edit: And I'll take this for a 6.

I have to roll a 7 (or better) to get more HP than half, makes sense for me to just take 5 each level --unless I can roll then choose. I can't remember if that was this game or another.

Lanezra checks the bodies of the Drow in the corner for armor or anything useful, including the glint of hope in the corner.

I presume they are Drow bodies.

Do we have to roll or can we take half?

(Or can we roll and then choose to take the roll or the half?)

Still badly injured, Lanezra stands and nods appreciatively for Carson's healing and Absalom's magical artillery. He looks at the woman they helped and the crumpled, decaying form before them.

It sucks that the corrupted myconids will make it to the 'wedding' without us to destroy it and figure out what's going on, but we're in no shape to continue.

"Gimme a second guys," and Lanezra limps painfully to the pile of decay from which they saved the girl and tried to confuse the crazed Myconids.
There may not be any people left to save but maybe some of the dead ones have a suit of chain mail or something I can wear.

Lanezra takes a few moments to look over the bodies of the unfortunate molding victims looking for armor.

I can find time to level up Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.

Absalom, Absalom, he's our man / If he can't do it, it's a TPK!

Just to confirm, Lanezra is unconscious at -3 and Carson is trying to defend him;... the corrupted Myconids are not acting because of my bluff;... the Larval Spore Creature is writhing on the ground and we're focusing our attacks on it?....

That's the whole point of having a Reach weapon (not to mention Carson's extra AC spell & my giving him all my Lay-on-Hands HP).

But if they do advance on me, can Carson get an AoO for moving past him? And can Lanezra get an AoO for going through my reach-weapon-threatened square?

Dang-it, I took too much time writing my post, caching up.

Um, can Absalom's Magic Missile go off course and hit the SPORE CREATURE instead? (apparently it took to long for me to post because I started my last post before Absalom acts.

Or can Absalom choose to edit his action -- IF he chooses -- after Lanezra speaks?

After crying out to the corrupted Myconids, "Why are you doing this? You see the Larval Spore Creature has been tainted by the traitor, Demogorgon -- it must know of our plans. We must kill it for the Profane Glory of our Mistress Zuggtmoy!"
Deception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Lanezra then rushes to a position behind Carson, reaches out with a malevolent cry, "Foolish mortal, This will make you follow the molding path of Zugtmoy to her revolting wedding!"
Lanezra's hand glows with the light of Oghma as he pours all of his magical healing into his injured comrade.
HP: 5 = 5

"KILL the Demogorgon-Tainted traitorous Spore Creature!"

I'm going to be ridiculously busy over the next few days ('till Tue). Between finishing the third Financial Quarter, finishing the first half of the Semester, and DMing three D&D sessions this weekend (instead of the usual one), it's going to be crazy.

We could really use a good description of this chamber, especially its size and our relative placement. Plus, what is Celia's condition?

Um, did Carson's healing get Celia at least ambulatory, if not up and around?
Can she get back to the Myconids by herself; does she indicate?

What is the Myconid's reaction to Celia being rescued from the Heap and healed?

....Once it appears Carson and Absalom have done what they can for the poor lady, and it seems that they're ready to move on to go have tea and crumpets with the Myconid's Mistress of Zuggtmoy,....

"Do you see," pointing at a random bit of decaying cyst, oddly shaped and dripping of puss, "That's a message from Zuggtmoy; it reveals her alliance with Graz'zt in their conspiracy to betray Demogorgan and destroy his Cult, all for the Awesome Stench of Zuggtmoy!"

While pretending to look with the Myconid for a 'symbol of Zuggtmoy' Lanezra does look for any Abyssal clues in both the mass of decaying fungi and the poor Myconid.

Investigate: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

"Come back this way; it's somewhere in the fungus that so deliciously has fed on these people, decaying their very souls. Take your time and we'll find it again."

Lanezra, coming back to where Absalom and Carson are trying desperately to heal Celia, inconspicuously gestures and silently mouths 'whew' to his allies as he and the Myconid take time to search for a Symbol, presumably from Zuggtmoy, giving them time to heal the poor lady.

Lanezra rushes to the departing Myconid, heading for its Mistress, and tries to delay it until we are finished administering the help we are able to give.

"I believe I saw a Symbol of Madness in the gloriously beautiful decay; please, you must come and look at it as it must be a command from your Mistress."

*Lanezra readies an attack or grapple if the Bluff doesn't work -- anything to keep the mind-maddened-Myconid to delay.

Running at the urgency of Absalom's call, Lanezra looks at what's left of his ally's friend, prepared to help in any way he may, but not at all hopeful.

"We'll save her, Absalom."

Alak Oghma, should I feel bad that I'm more intellectually curious than horrifically saddened at Absalom's loss?

"Welcome to the Underdark, Carson, where there's a Demo Lord-Cult around every corner. Look, the Myconid is taking us to one now. Shall we?" Lanezra smiles hungrily as he gestures the way to follow the sadly-corrupted Myconid further.

"Let me try a conversational gambit first, Carson. Let us only resort to combat if needed," Lanezra whispers, refusing the shield. "And look at my halberd; I can't wield it and carry a shield at once. I have to rely on my quick wit to talk my way out of fights -- and rely on my ability to stand back from my opponent with my reach, during a fight. But thanks for the offer."

For posterity, it's "Lanezra," not "Lanzera." My name is a take on "Arsenal" spelled backwards.

"Oh, I'd just love to meet your Mistress! There's something about Insanity that appeals to me."

Lanezra gives Carson a slight nod at his wise suggestion -- and begins to follow the duped, crazed Myconid.

Lanezra, with a courteous hand on Carson's shoulder to halt his progress, asks with empathy, "Why are you letting that one wonder off? You see something is wrong and his companion is worried, trying to stop him. Let us halt the befuddled Myconid."

Lanezra then moves ahead of the oddly-acting Myconid and tries a gambit:
"Demogorgon glooba-glooba ZAN -- Goah," and points authoritatively toward the direction that the still-sane Myconid was leading.

Well, if he's crazy and it's connected to that monstrous Avatar then he may just recognize The Prince of Bastards' name. And if he's not there's no harm done; I don't mind acting a fool.
