Even if nothing comes from this, just talking to you all over the last week has brought me an irrational amount of joy :)

Dunno. Samwell Tarly isn’t the best example. He was steward and meister in training. It would be unreasonable to assume he’d be involved in combat. Also, not an adventurer .

The cowardly trope is not "anti-team"

Has no one played at a table where a player has their character run from fights because "it's what my character would do", then has surprised pikachu face when the party ditches them in the next town, and the player is asked to make a replacement character?

Why would any group of adventurers keep taking along a person who never has the party's back?

Well, poop. 30 it is! lol
Yeah I forgot Ephebe was 27 when we graduated.

I dunno about 30 years...maybe 10 or 15. Some of us might want to play our in-game progeny ;)

My thought would be continue as if things played out as Lyn described, and continue on Agartha at Avalon. Keep some of the NPCs for familiarity.
This way, if folks wanted to pop in from time to time they could without committing over much.
We can brainstorm, outline what did or didn't happen, then move forward.
Or this could be too much nostalgia speaking, lol. It was 11 years we played this, after all.

Not interested in learning another new game system, tbh.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Oh...I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the firebirds on other worlds learn how the nobility on Agartha acted. Eek.

As far as a reboot, but dunno. Maybe. I'd probably keep it pf1e for the sake of having to convert characters.
Dunno how I'd feel about it tbh.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

I'd just introduced the new Wrath champ, and was looking forward to the interplay with Sadie. Woulda been some good stuff there :)

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

how would Tyrrin and Ghalen fit in there?

If I remember correctly the only real ways to stop being a champion were to die or become immortal.

I think being able to just quit if it no longer suited you would have struck a nice... balance. ;)

And if anyone has the right to make demands of all the other patrons, it’s that guy! :)

LMAO makes total sense.

I think more fun will be her learning to deal with herself from the other side ;)

It's ok man. No one expects people to betray a confidence or air laundry for a play by post game :)

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Oh, I know. Keme and Vai had a hard time 'retiring'.
I was just wondering if once the whole Others issue was resolved, some Patrons may have offered to release their champs...

Oh I guess these thoughts lead to another question:

Would everyone who was still a champion remain a champion after it's all said and done? I think for Krays, the answer is most likely yes, but curious about the others...

And who would Ephebe take as Time's champion?

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Thoughts n stuff:

Lynora wrote:
So the beauty of being a non-linear existence is that Ephebe can pretty much continue her “mortal” existence as long as she damn well pleases. While still also being every when at once doing her job as Time. I had a bad moment at first when Krays and Ephebe got together when I was all like oh no, is this gonna end in a terrible tragedy? But then I worked through the actual logic of it and realized that it totally didn’t have to be. Also, Ephebe would be unphased by Krays going any amount of dark side. Honestly, I think it’s easy to forget that An is the one who was raised by Tam and Aananda. Ephebe was raised by demons. You really can’t scare her off with this stuff. :)

Oh, I remember that stuff. The whole "im not really her" convo was a kind of a bomb drop. I mean, she was who Krays fell in love with so it really didn't matter to him. But in the past the couple of times he started slipping, she did draw him back.

Lynora wrote:
Oof. Nala is the character I genuinely feel the most sorry for in all this. There is no truly happy ending for her. She inherits the mantle of Winter Queen when the Others take out her mom. She can’t get out of it. Especially when they need to fight the Others. Even after the dust settles, she’s stuck as the winter queen. I’m assuming that Ryuzo would at least try to stay with her. But yeah, it totally bites and there’s not a way out for her. The best she can do is try to reform the system as much as possible, but like, honestly she has a not great ending. :(

Damn, that is sad. And like the complete opposite of what she wanted. I hope at least that by that point, she had gotten her other issues resolved so she could handle that without fear. As far as Ryuzo...he would have stayed as long as he could. He would not, however, fulfill the roles of the Winter Knight. He wouldn't be able to live with himself, no matter how much he loved Nala. If she was able to change the system, then it's more likely he'd remain with her.

Egads. Champion of Luck and Winter Queen? Wow.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Same! I was hoping for whatever the celestial equivalent was, like a hound archon or something. Or some kind of Azata would fit probably.

Oh and what was Phaeze turning into? lol

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Ahh ok I missread some of that then, good to know!

more questions:

With Ephebe being Kronos 2.0, how much freedom would she have to be present as a mother? Would that be a permanent good bye situation for Krays and the kids?
How would the Ryuzo/Nala situation pan out, assuming neither of them dies? I know the Others really freaked her out, more than most...

For my characters...
Krays' future is entirely dependent on how far he'd feel he had to go to protect anyone in his family, but especially Ephebe and the kids. I could see him going a bit darkside on our enemies, Ephebe is always able to pull him back though, so it would not have been for long.
Ghalen would have stuck by Tyrrin's side no matter what. After Ehos' death...I had planned for that to shake him a bit, enough for him to completely lose his hesitance in fighting against the Empire directly. He was already working with Jiminy a bit, but he would have gone all in, and lead spec op units against IPSD incursions.
Unless Keme would have wanted to stay and fight, Gennosuke would have tried to get him and Alys as far from Agartha as possible. If he faced any pushback, or either of them refused to leave, he would have called in the rest of his clan to directly aid in the conflict, and fought hard.
I think most of my other characters were pretty much retired, or became NPcs to an extent.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

its great to hear from you Lyn :)

I can just imagine that it would have taken another 4 years of real time play to finish all that up, too.
I'm sorry your health isn't the best, and wish the best for you, and thanks to you and the other GMs that kept this going as long as it did.

I guess I have a few questions...

in case others don't want to know:
Would the kids have hatched prior to all of this? Made it out?
Did you plan for Agartha itself to not survive the conflict?
Who takes over the Empire?
Any main character deaths you planned for?

I guess thats it for now.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

I think to pass the time I’m might try to recreate Krays in pf2e

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Ryuzo & Nala! So good.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Sweet, thanks FCD.
I meant more of a discussion tool, than a gameplay tool. But also more of a way to not lose touch.
DB3, I guess I’m proof that memory is the first to go

Kinda wish discord woulda been a thing while we played this.
Coulda been interesting to get into a voice chat and brainstorm.

I seem to remember DB3 doing class portraits...do we still have those?

The problem is, who decides what kind of wording change is "minor"? It's the exact same problem.

True.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'll fully admit a lack of knowledge here.
You can't make minor wording changes without revocation?

EDIT: Yeah ok, just thought what a pain in the ass it would be to have to update all your printed products that had it included.
never mind :)

This is a very good point.

Check the bonus type. Speed bonuses often don't have a bonus type, but pretty much everything else does. If the bonus type is the same, then it won't stack. If the bonus type is different, then it probably should.

In the case of speed that doesn't have a type, you may need to just decide whether having that much speed is going to be a problem or not.

It just says "status bonus". Is that untyped?

breithauptclan wrote:
One at a time, yes. This isn't even a Dual Class thing - plenty of classes - especially Monk - can get several stances to use. But starting a new one ends any existing stance.

This is what I thought. Thanks for confirming.

Frankly, a morality clause could be fine, as long as it's not vague as hell, something that is frequently reviewed/revised and is not intended to be used as a weapon to score points.
Unfortunately they require a lot of trust on the part of the signer/user.

If both classes give a similar class feature (at the same level or not), even though they are named differently (ie vivacious speed and incredible movement) they do not stack, correct?
If both classes give stances, only one stance can be used at a time, correct?

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to these, just making sure I'm not missing some nuance or special circumstance somewhere...

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

As for what Kryz said, I long ago learned that it's okay to cheat a little as a GM. Ie, make use of things the PCs don't have access to, which as GM is a lot. Give them unique abilities, which not only can help make the encounter more challenging, it also makes it interesting and different. This helps combat meta knowledge as well, which we're all generally guilty of to one degree or another...

Oh, yeah this is definitely a thing, and we all expect fudging. What we would not expect is a creature that suddenly has a dc 75 save or die ability in the name of challenge.

I don't find it to be more work really, but then again, in addition to the numbers is tactics.

I mean think about it, how do wargamers win? They don't have builds for individual characters that can cheese numbers, they use strategy and tactics.

Apply the same strategy to the rpg. Rushing in headfirst is strategically simple, and should absolutely be punished if the PCs are finding encounters too easy. Stop relying on mere numbers, use tactics.

I bring up tucker's kobolds once again. An excellent example of tactics having far more power than numbers.

If combat has been reduced to everybody rushing forward and attacking, then of course it's going to get boring, regardless of the numbers or of the attack types.

I’m about to be offended on my GM’s behalf. You’re making a lot of assumptions about how he runs things that aren’t true.

I’m also starting to get jealous of the perfect in all circumstances table you apparently play at. Kudos.
I think that if in order to never get tired of PF1E all of these things needs to be perfect, I don’t need to make my case any further.

If your GM can't make an encounter dangerous and difficult, it's quite literally the GM's own fault. There is just no cause for it. Heck, the entire concept of encounters being roughly equal to the players is explicitly against the rules, so they can't even use that as an excuse.

Hit points of enemies doubled and later tripled, AC increased by 10 or more, saves/stats increased, monsters given class levels or made gestalt if they had them already, minions added, etc.

All of this wasn't quite enough to offset the party's action economy.
He did a lot, but didn't want it to feel like he was trying to cheese us or go out of his way to outright kill us, cuz you know the game isn't GM vs PCs...

It's fine. YMMV. We've gotten all the mileage we feel we needed to.
