Channel Positive Energy: Krom is able to channel energy into a pulsing ring of light around him that washes over either living beings or unliving beings (chosen at the time of the blast). It restores or deals 1d6 hit points of damage to the living or undead respectively. The range is thirty feet, and it is a standard action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. For every two levels after level 1, the amount of hit points dealt increases by 1d6.

Healing Domain: As a standard action, Krom can touch a creature and restore 1d4 points of damage plus one for every two cleric levels. This ability can only be used on a creature below 0 hit points, and only a number of times per day equal to 3 plus Krom's WIS modifier (8). Domain Spells: Cure Light Wounds

Liberation Domain: Krom has the ability to ignore impediments to his movement. For a number of rounds equal to his Cleric level, Krom can ignore obstacles to his movement as if he were under the powers of a Freedom of Movement spell. The effect occurs automatically as soon as it applies, and the rounds do not need to be consecutive. Domain Spells: Remove Fear

Traits:

Freed Slave (Regional): Krom has breathed the sweetness of free air after decades of laboring beneath the yoke of oppression. The blows, kicks and lashes of his cruel masters have toughened his skin and lent him a +1 trait bonus to his Fortitude saves.

Ease of Faith (Faith): Though his history as a laborer and slave could have easily broken his spirit and made him brutish and violent, Krom exhibits an exterior of grace and civility thanks to the teachings of Milani. Background:

To say that Krom’gosh has led a life of toil and torment would be an understatement. He was torn from the arms of his mother and father before he had even drawn breath for his first cry. His parents, slaves both, were the property of a Chelaxian noble family, and found solace in each others arms on the rare moments they were not forced to work until they dropped. Krom’s father was attracted to his mother’s wild, untamable strength, and she was attracted to his father’s unbreakable will and unflappable courage. The muscular female Orc did not show her pregnancy outwardly, and it came as a great surprise to the guards who patrolled the labor camp when they heard the sounds of a woman giving birth. As soon as the baby boy was on the floor, the guards cut the cord and swept him away. They paused just long enough to contemptuously ask for a name to call their new mule. The Orc named him Krom’gosh, which in the Orcish language means ‘The Liberator’.

Krom’gosh (called simply ‘Krom’ by the other slaves) grew to immensity. The conditions under which he worked hardened his body and toughened his constitution. Before he had even seen thirteen years, his mother and father had been worked to their deaths, yet he was not allowed to weep for them. Only to watch for a handful of breaths as they were rolled carelessly into a mass grave. He might have been lost to despair had it not been for a Dwarf slave whom Krom came to know closely.

His name was Braddock Thunderforge, a scholar who had fallen behind on his debts to the noble family to whom he now served. He had slaved away in their labor camps, building roads and monuments and palaces for over thirty years. Seeing in Krom a kindred spirit, Braddock took the teenage Half-Orc under his wing and, when the eyes of the guards were not upon them, taught him the ways of the outside world. This included subjects as diverse as sciences, mathematics and social graces. Many times, the two of them argued as Krom chafed under the old Dwarf’s seemingly useless teachings. After all, Krom thought, he would live in the camps and die in the camps.

This changed, however, when they came at last to religion. Braddock taught Krom of the lesser goddess Milani, the Everbloom, the patron deity of Hope, Devotion and Uprisings. He thought that, if anyone could free the slaves that even now labored under the yoke of tyranny, it would be the hands of Milani.

In the midsummer of Krom’s twenty-fourth year, he and the other slaves were charged with building a grand palace for the nobles of Cheliax. Working in hideous conditions, many of the slaves had already perished by the time the family themselves appeared to oversee the construction. Braddock, already ancient and in poor health from years of substandard living, suffered an internal injury and fell to the ground in agony. Krom rushed to his side, desperate to aid him, only to have the baron of the noble house demand that the two be whipped until they worked or died. Whips lashed Krom about the back and shoulders, but he paid them no mind, instead praying with all his might for Milani to save his teacher. Instead, the old dwarf smiled at Krom and whispered: “I see her…I’m finally free.”

Breathing his last, the Dwarf perished, and Krom felt hot anger explode behind his eyes. His hand was holding something hard and heavy--a morningstar wrought of black iron and carved with a rose. He didn’t remember picking it up, nor have any idea where it came from, but he immediately rose to his feet and smote the nearest guard. There was a single clarion moment of silence…and then all hell broke loose. Slaves broke their bonds in superhuman surges of strength. Guards quailed in fear as their weapons somehow seemed not as sharp, not as accurate. By the end of the day, all the slaves were free, and Krom himself executed the baron of the noble family. He felt no hatred when he did so, and let the baron’s family go free.

With his freedom before him, Krom decided to dedicate his life to Milani, and gave himself the surname 'Chainbreaker'. Wearing her symbol and carrying the same weapon he found in the slave camps some seven years ago at his side, he wanders the world procuring succor to the needy, freedom to the oppressed and esteem to all.

Appearance:

Krom is, by no means, a handsome man. His face is blocky, heavily scarred, and brutish-looking. With a prominent jaw and a jutting brow, it is easy to mistake him for being very stupid. His nose is bulbous and hawkish, and looks as if it’s been broken more than once, and one of his sharpened tusks has been chipped at the end. His reddish-black hair grows close against his head, jaw and chin, giving him a lion-like appearance, and he wears his beard cropped close and his hair pulled back into a braid worn down to the small of his back. A large chunk has been torn out of his left ear.

His body, similarly, his monstrous and bestial. Krom stands a full seven feet tall, with broad shoulders and arms as thick as tree trunks, covered in thick, corded muscle. His barrel-like chest tapers down into a comparatively narrow waist and powerful thighs with thick legs and pan-sized feet. When he goes shirtless, the crisscross designs of hundreds of lash marks are easily seen on his dark, mottled, greenish-black flesh. The telltale signs of battle and torture are all there--the puckered mark of a stab wound, the spidery splay of a burn mark, the ferocious cursive of monster teeth. He has walked far and seen much.

Despite his vicious and thuggish appearance, the look on his face is usually one of intelligent and polite curiosity. Krom carries himself straight-backed and almost regal, and when he moves there is a kind of liquid grace in the muscles that surge beneath his skin.

Krom dresses, for the most part, the same every day. He wears a soft white shirt of sheep’s wool tucked into tough leather traveling pants and shin-high, hard leather traveling boots. Over this he wears scale mail armor that has been expertly crafted to fit over his massive frame. Over this armor he dons a crimson tabard that is emblazoned with a rose growing wild out of a blood-stained, cobble-stoned street, the symbol of Milani, and this is buckled in place by a thick leather utility belt with a broad loop to hold his morningstar. Lastly, he dons a cloak and mantle of a darker, richer red that gives him a somewhat regal appearance despite his bestial ancestry.

Personality:

Krom’gosh knows full well the hardships that come along with not being in charge of one’s own destiny. To that end, he treats every day as if it were a treasure, savoring everything from the taste of his breakfast to the color of the sky (be the sky blue or gray). He is a jovial soul, and loves a stout drink, a hearty meal and (perhaps most of all) a good laugh. His laugh is something of note, a booming sound from deep in his chest that seems almost infectious, coaxing all around him to join in the fun. Because his ugly appearance often sours first impressions, Krom has developed a powerful force of personality. He has a deep, rumbling, smooth voice that is soothing to the ears, and many people often find his company to be warm and welcome, earning him friends and companions wherever he goes.

This is not to say that Krom is all play and no work. His life on the road has taught him to fight, and fight hard. In combat he will often put others before himself, and makes healing wounded comrades a top priority. When on the road with no particular goal in mind, he will almost always stop and aid those in need, especially if their cause is just. He will accept reward if reward is offered, but if he is called (by honor, faith or principle) to rescue a people from the bonds of slavery, he will fight to the death to see it done and refuse to accept a penny in return.

Krom’gosh is not without darkness in his soul. Not even Milani can completely erase the horrors of his past, nor the pain, and there are still times when he will awake screaming in the night as his nightmares force him to watch his parents drop into their careless graves, or the light die in his teacher’s eyes…or one of a thousand other horrors he may have seen in the last seven years of his freedom.
